4 PH Side table/stool I had done a lot of sketches for a visit to a tray factory and got the idea of pressing two trays together to create a side table. After a bit of experimentation with sizes and shapes. And here it is the IKEA PS 2017 side table you can also use as a stool. 5 PH seat sofa, foldable If you live in a small space it can be practical with furniture that s easy to take out when needed. The idea for IKEA PS 2017 foldable sofa came from the same idea as the foldable table in this collection. How can I use the foldable function of outdoor furniture for indoor furniture? 6 PH Tea-light holder, set of 3 I think that tea lights are something we consume without actually needing. But when I saw a model of a wind turbine, I got an idea. Maybe I could create something that might start us thinking about what we consume. 7 SHED IT. DUMP IT. PH Entrance, landing strip, foyer. Whatever it s called, having one adds instant homeyness to whatever space you re occupying at the moment. 8 PH Storage unit I didn t need to think hard in order to come up with the idea for IKEA PS 2017 storage unit. It just came to me when I saw some collapsible pallet collars during a factory visit. Without tools, screws or fittings, you can transform the flat package into a functional storage unit in just minutes. 9 PH Valet stand When I wake up in the morning, I want my clothes and all the other things I need to be in the same place. It makes the morning more enjoyable and less stressful. The IKEA PS 2017 Valet Stand has an almost human form with one arm stretched out to hold your clothes and a dish where you can put your phone and wallet. 10 PH Armchair, foldable The idea for IKEA PS 2017 foldable armchair came from the same idea as the foldable table in this collection. How can I use the foldable function of outdoor furniture for indoor furniture? The challenge was achieving comfort, while keeping the simplicity. The material is lightweight and sound-absorbing. And the design makes the divider stable while forcing the sound to bounce around, which absorbs even more sound. Designer Mikael Axelsson We wanted to create a pattern that captures nature s calmness. The same smooth movements created in long grass when a light wind blows. Today s families are often alone together. Present in the room, but elsewhere in their minds. I want to get people closer to each other. Designer Marcus Arvonen Great roller blind to put in a window, inside or outside, and get a feel of nature with the pattern. The roller blind can be hung as a room divider to create spaces. The block-out roller blind has a special coating and does not let any light through, as well as being cordless for increased child safety. 14 PH piece self-watering plant pot set I m one of those who never manages to take care of my plants. Every time I come home after a trip, all I see is unhappy plants and brown leaves. I finally decided to find a solution, and started looking for the best material for the job. 15 PH Vase To create something unique that can also be mass-produced was an exciting challenge for me as a designer. Despite all vases being mouthblown in the same mould, they get a unique look because the melted glass is made of various shades of leftover material from the glassworks. My main focus was to find a flow of light that could light up without blinding people. The design of the table lamp, which you can also hang on the wall, and floor lamp in the IKEA PS 2017 series was inspired by old military searchlights. Designer Ola Wihlborg Floor lamp, dimmable A floor lamp that s easy to move around and adjust, that looks good in all angles and positions. That was what I wanted to create. 18 PH LED multi-use lights I ve always been interested in different types of transport and been fascinated by how magical it must have been when we got light indoors. So it s maybe not surprising that I was inspired by old railway lights when I created the LED multi-use light in the IKEA PS 2017 collection. 20 Meshing design with quality materials Sit tight for 3D knitted innovation Beautiful armchair, almost transparent and so light it hardly looks like it s there at all. Gives the room and feeling of airy openness and space. Comes in a flat pack so it s easy to get home. The IKEA PS 2017 storage unit is a collapsible metal storage unit designed by Nike Karlsson. It fits anywhere. Just unpack and use. Needs no fittings. The hinged, open-cage construction is quick and easy to set up. PH PH At IKEA we have been curious about this 3D knitting technique for some time. We have all seen it being used in those colourful sneakers and it s a really smart way to produce things, since it s fully automatised and this knitting machine can be used by any supplier to combine it with other materials in a product. It almost never happens that good ideas pop up, but the cabinet combines inspiration from both living spaces and the factory floor Galvanized steel gives the product a long life and great durability along with a raw attractiveness. It is a simple idea, making a unit without loose parts. The unit is rough and unpolished, just like the idea. 21 Solutions for fluid living Use it as a cushion or fold out and use as blanket or throw. Just pack it in itself and take it anywhere with you. Creating the right environment A bit of environmentally friendly beauty that everyone can afford. Dishwasher-safe, handmade, each vase mouth-blown by a skilled craftsman. Use the vase with flowers or alone, as a beautiful object in its own right. PH PH Already as a child I was an expert on creating comfort and keeping myself busy in the back seat of our car. I did serious planning before the long journey started, what to play with and listen to, but also how to sleep and relax in the best way. The quillow is what I would have wished for to have with me on all those road trips that we did. A fluffy cushion that easily can be turned into a quilt, the perfect combo for someone on the go and with limited space. Designer Paulin Machado The vases look a bit like marble, and as glass comes from stone there s something natural about that connection. Thinking about the environment, glass is a great natural medium anyhow, but making use of glass left-overs that would otherwise go to waste gives the vases even greater weight as sustainable beauty. And while visiting a supplier in China, I found a quilted fabric with soft interior. Right there and then was born the idea for the IKEA PS 2017 throw blanket with a zipper. Walking through these dense areas, where the ground is covered by soft moss feels special and beautiful. I found a three-dimensional structure that could recreate this view. 24 PH Throw Inspired by nature, I made patterns that combined with the material become interesting graphical shapes. I hope these colourful products will find a place on lots of sofas around the world. I looked specifically at sleeping bags because they re so easy to roll up and carry. I added a warm, soft material on one side of the throw so it s light and soft. Designer Paulin Machado I wanted to create something that makes life easier for young people on the move. The idea came from a 1970s quilt that can be turned into a sleeping bag. 36 PH Armchair I wanted to design something really comfortable for everyone who lives in small spaces. The result is the IKEA PS 2017 armchair with great seating comfort. The manufacturing technique is called 3D knitting and is usually used to make colourful trainers, which I love. This armchair can endure many years of wear without its shape being distorted, just like a nice pair of trainers. I wanted to angle the candleholders and have the candles at different heights to create a three-dimensional shape and feel. The Allen key actually inspired the shape.
