3 pass on to others in your organisation. Service Bulletin OUTDOOR GRILLS Leaking Griddle Safety Valve MARKETS: MODELS: USA BFG-30BGD Part number COMBO VALVE, which controls the Griddle burner. When in the off setting it may allow gas to flow to the burner, bypass the safety feature controlled by the thermocouple. The shaft of the valve is too sensitive, in that any slight side pressure on it will allow gas flow, to the Griddle Burner, to bypass the valve s safety controller, normally actuated by the thermocouple. This gas flow can cause a gas build up in the burner box and may present a dangerous condition. All Valves with date codes prior to (read as Year then Week- or 2007 Week #19) may have this issue and need to be replaced with a valve with dates codes of or later. The Combo Valve can be ordered under the same part number. All defective stock has been purged from current stock COMBO VALVE, SADDLE & SEAL, SADDLE VALVE Date Code in YY / Week of the Year Format Instructions for changing over the value: - Replace the COMBO VALVE, SADDLE and SEAL, SADDLE VALVE. 1. Ensure gas supply is OFF. 2. Remove the knobs and valve panel. 3. Disconnect the wires from the combo valve micro switch and ignition module. 4. Disconnect thermocouple from the combo valve. 5. Remove the screw that holds the valve to the manifold and remove the valve. 6. Remove orifice from the old valve and put it on the new valve using thread sealer. 7. Reinstall thermocouple to combo valve (taking care not to over tighten). 8. Place a new seal in the saddle of the combo valve. The SEAL POSITION IS CRITICAL (SEE PICTURE BELOW). 4 9. Install valve onto the manifold using existing clamp and screw. Ensure orifice is installed into the griddle burner. 10. Turn gas supply ON, check for leaks on the valve using soapy water around the valve. 11. Connect wires to the combo valve micro switch. 12. Check match lighting. 13. Service Bulletin OUTDOOR GRILLS & HEATERS No Gas From LP Regulator MARKETS: MODELS: USA LP GRILLS & HEATERS The LP Gas Regulator is a metering device that is attached to a Propane cylinder to provide a workable low-pressure gas stream from which a grill or heater can be safely operated. The no gas from the regulator issue lies with the tank, not the regulators. Propane cylinders that have the Overfilling Prevention Device (OPD), as of January , come equipped with an auto shutdown safety valve. This causes the bottle to automatically shut down to about 10% of normal flow if it doesn t feel any backpressure. This is to protect the consumer from a Propane supported fire from a major gas leak, fire, etc. If there is a fire at or near the Plastic Connector Nut (on the regulator), it is designed to melt and come off the bottle. This will produce the no backpressure scenario and cause the bottle to bleed off at 10%, so it will not explode or put out a large flame that will increase the fire area. If all the grill valves are not shut off and all the connections not tightened before turning on the bottle, the safety valve doesn t feel any backpressure and it snaps shut and only gives 10% of the normal flow. This is particularly problematic on newly filled bottles and new bottles that were not properly purged the first time they were filled. It even will take place when the grill valves are off and connections tight, when bottles are turned on too fast and the safety valve doesn t feel backpressure, thus causing it to shut down. Once a safety valve shuts down, the bottle valve must be shut off, the regulator disconnected and then reconnected to the bottle after a wait time of 60 seconds. Then having made sure that the grill and accessory valves are off and all connections tight, turn on the tank valve very slowly to allow the system to pressure up, before operating the grill valves. That should be standard procedure all the time with Propane Cylinders. When performing a full burner test throughout the entire LP Grill, do not turn all the burner valves to the HI or light position and then open the bottle valve as a first step. With the all the valves turned to the HI, opening the bottle valve will immediately control and limit the LP flow through the whole Grill. The burners may flame, but at a much lower rate than HI. The Regulator is designed to govern the LP flow. It also prevents any large and rapid pressure drops, which will draw a lot of LP from the tank and may cause an explosion. This method will not prove the full burner capacity of the LP BBQ. To perform a full burner test of the entire BBQ Grill: - 1. Check and turn all the burner valves off. 2. Turn the bottle valve on slowly. 3. Turn the first burner valve on to light the burner. Turn the burner to HI. Verify that the burner is flaming at the Hl level. Keep the valve open at HI. 4. Repeat step 3 for the remainder of the burner valves. Turn one valve on at a time in sequence. 5. Verify that all the burners are flaming at the HI level. 6. Turn the last lit burner valve off. Turn the other valves off one at a time in reverse sequence. 7. Turn the bottle valve off. Page 1 of 1 S-DGEN-07-01

Service Bulletin FREESTANDING RANGES Faulty Push Button Selector Switch MARKETS: MODELS: USA ALL RDS / RDT / RGSC / RGTC RANGES Issue - An intermittent or permanent failure in an oven s functions. One of the possible causes may be a high resistance connection in the push button selector switch. High resistance (or open) contacts are due to a low spring pressure of the switch internal contacts. This condition may be hard to detect when the unit functions normally at one time and not another. When all oven component functional tests are negative, an intermittent switch may be suspected. To identify possible defective switches, (which can be stocked under any part number) they will have a date code between 0439 to The first 2 digits are the year (04 = 2004) and the last 2 digits will be the week of that year (see location below). REFRIGERATION Defrost Element Failure MARKETS: USA MODELS: E522B Service Bulletin Early Active Smart products had a corrugated type evaporator, which was replaced in April 2006 with a Showa Fin on Tube evaporator. We have experienced a problem with the defrost element going open circuit when fitted to the Showa evaporator. A new defrost element has been introduced to alleviate the open circuit problem. A service kit has been introduced that contains parts and instructions to suit either evaporator. Discard any components from the kit that are not required. Tail lengths have been increased Old defrost element New defrost element. The new defrost elements have extended tails on both ends, with one end being longer than the other. REFRIGERATION Loose Handles MARKETS: USA MODELS: E522B Service Bulletin A problem has arisen with some of the latest designed handles recognized by internal grub screws coming loose during normal door operations. The problem is with the handle boss, where the boss has been held in position by the plastic housing inside the handle. The plastic housing can be pushed together by the foaming process; this in turn holds the boss tightly in place. The grub screw is tightened and the product leaves the factory with a tight handle. With normal use of the door, the boss eventually works loose and moves out / forward causing the handle to become loose. The same issue becomes apparent when the PC or FC Door is replaced. The boss can be fitted into the door and the grub screw is used to pull the handle tight. The grub screw is used to pull the boss upward by using the taper on the boss to lever the boss out of the housing. However, the grub screw binds into the taper and the handle is perceived to be tight, but once again works loose over time. Plastic retainer inside of door, which retains the handle boss. Foam flows between the aluminum housing and the plastic retainer deforming the plastic housing, making the boss tight. Complete Boss Housing (Foamed in the door) To resolve this problem in the factory, paper tape is being placed over the housing to prevent foam distorting the plastic boss housing. 12 Should a product be found with loose handles, the following procedure should be followed: - 1. Remove the loose handle from the product. 2. Check each boss to ensure there is a gap between the base of the boss and the door. Refer photo below. If required, use a pair of pliers and pull the bosses out as far as possible (1 2 mm gap should be seen). 3. Carefully fit the handle and ensure the bosses are not pushed down again. 4. Tighten the grub screws, but do not over tighten. 5. Pull the handle firmly to test. Should the handle be loose, repeat the process. 6. Tightened the grub screws. REFRIGERATION Poor Provision Compartment Temperatures MARKETS: USA MODELS: E522B Service Bulletin Customer complaint of - Poor fresh food temperatures / Long run times / Condensation forming in PC This particular problem is more prominent with E522B products having the old corrugated evaporators. Under certain conditions such as ambient temperatures, PC and FC temperature setting and door openings, frost forms around the top of the return air ducts. Over time the frost continues to form, eventually blocking the return air ducts. To confirm this is the problem, remove the PC duct cover and look into the return air ducts, which are on either side of the PC fan. Using a touch, view the air duct and should any frost be visible the probability of a blocked duct is high. In some severe cases ice / frost can be seen under the FC cover as the frost is starting to grow in the defrost tray area. Reason for the problem: - There are two aluminum heat deflectors fitted to the rear of the evaporator chassis as shown in Photo A. Experiments have shown that insufficient heat is being transferred to the top of the duct. This is due to the small element clips used to transfer the heat from the element to the heat deflectors. 14 Fitment of new chassis kit Dismantling Procedure. 1. Before any fitment, place the product into defrost to remove any ice build up. 2. Remove baskets from the freezer. 3. Remove fan cover, disconnect the fan connector and remove the sensor from the sensor housing. 4. Un-clip the bottom of the evaporator and lift the evaporator towards the top of the FC compartment and pull forward. 5. Remove the aluminium tape from both the old heater clips and remove the clip heater from the defrost element. 6. Remove the chassis from the evaporator. 7. Remove the original plate deflector. Fitment Procedure 1. Fit 2x Plate deflector to chassis (As shown in diagram A) Shortened plate deflectors 6. Using a pair of Long Nose pliers crimp the end of the heater clip firmly around the defrost element (Diagram D). Diagram D 7. Push the defrost element back into the original position and retwist the evaporator support. 8. Tape down the heater clips to the deflectors (per in diagram E and F). Diagram A 2. Place Aluminium tape on top of deflector as with original chassis, plus a small piece of tape on the bottom corner. Refer Diagram B Placed Aluminium tape as shown Diagram E Diagram B 3. Fit chassis to evaporator. 4. Un-twist evaporator to release the defrost element and drop the defrost element slightly. (DO NOT remove the element). 5. Place new clip heater (as per diagram C) on both sides of the chassis. Fitting new clip heater onto the element. Diagram F 9. Refit chassis / evaporator back into position. 10. Fit defrost sensor into central sensor position (per diagram G). 11. Refit FC sensor and fan connector and refit FC cover. 12. Turn product on and ensure the fan operation. REFRIGERATION Icemaker Not Dispensing Ice MARKETS: USA MODELS: E522B Service Bulletin Customers may complain about the icemaker not dispensing ice, or that the product will not go into a forced harvest. The main problem is incorrectly diagnosing this fault. The serviceman will notice the product is not making any ice and may try to manually force a harvest to check the water valve operation and the icemaker rotation. The serviceman may not pull the cabinet from its position to check the Icemaker PCB for any fault codes and incorrectly diagnose the problem as an icemaker problem. Should the icemaker sensor be open circuit, the icemaker will not operate, nor will the forced harvest work. It makes no difference whether the product is down to temperature or not, if the icemaker sensor is open circuit the icemaker will not operate nor will the product do a manual harvest. Check the icemaker sensor ensuring there is a resistance as per the table in the service manual, or check the Icemaker PCB, and if the sensor is open circuit there should be 4 flashes on the PCB LED.
