It s the Law Recycling has been the law in New Jersey since It Saves Money When a business recycles, there is less trash to throw away, which reduces costs for trash disposal. 3. It Helps the Planet Recycling conserves natural resources and saves energy. STEPS TO SUCCESS 1. Designate Recycling Coordinator(s) This person or group is responsible for starting the program, building support and enthusiasm, and monitoring progress. 2. Inform Janitorial Staff Janitorial staff play a large role in recycling. They ensure items go from indoor recycling bins to the proper outdoor containers. They can also help to monitor which areas of your office or business need additional attention. 3. Perform a Waste Audit A waste audit involves looking at your trash to determine which items are commonly thrown away, should be recycled or could be reduced. 4. Make Recycling Accessible Try to place recycling bins next to every trash can. If employees or patrons have to walk far to reach a recycling bin, they may opt for the trash can. ACUA will provide outdoor recycling containers (not intended for indoor use). 5. Get Employees on Board An announcement should be made to all employees informing them about the program, why your organization will recycle, and the importance of participating. ACUA can provide outreach materials. 6. Monitor and Evaluate Evaluate what works for your business and where problems exist. This data serves as the basis for effective communication efforts and program improvements!
