4 The Efficient Grinding System Functionality and efficiency The ZETA grinding system represents the evolutionary development of the John system in combination with the rotor-slotted pipe separation system. The enclosed horizontal agitator bead mill is designed for the highest product throughput rates and is equipped with a pin grinding system to provide the highest grinding intensity. The product flows horizontally through the agitator mill from the inlet on the bearing side and is discharged through the slotted pipe at the bottom of the tank. The compelled flow of the product through the media-intensive grinding zone ensures uniform exposure within the mill. The dynamic separation system reliably contains the grinding media in the grinding zone. This allows the highest possible throughput rates without pressure build-up in the grinding chamber and creates the ideal conditions for circulation or multi-pass operation. For precise temperature control, the agitator mill is equipped with a multi-zone cooling system. In the standard model, the grinding tank, agitator shaft and product outlet can be cooled to prevent overheating of the product. Optionally, the slotted section of the agitator shaft can be cooled as well. Complete flow around the slotted section of the agitator shaft not only increases the cooling surface, but the heat transfer efficiency as well. Grinding chamber models in different materials and new control concepts expand the application possibilities. 5 Unlimited versatility The high-speed ZETA circulation system is a grinding system with many different applications. It is equally suitable for processing products with very low viscosity and grinding products with a high concentration of solids and a correspondingly high viscosity. NETZSCH-BEADS are grinding media ideally tailored to the ZETA grinding system and are available in various materials and sizes ranging from 0.09 mm to 3 mm diameter. The product-wetted components of the grinding system can be made of different materials. Depending on the application, materials such as NElast, ceramic, wear-resistant special steels and stainless steel are available. A pharmaceutical version of the grinding system is also available. The targeted multi-zone cooling system allows processing of products at very low temperatures. Standard design - optionally available in highly wear-resistant special steel for processing products containing solvents or in stainless steel for waterbased products. Ceramic design - for iron-free grinding of abrasive, contaminationsensitive, solvent-based products. The product-wetted grinding chamber components are available in a choice of NETZSCH-CERAM Z, NETZSCH-CERAM N and NETZSCH-CERAM C. 6 Operational Reliability and Convenience Easy, dependable operation The ZETA grinding system is in every regard a very user-friendly, lowmaintenance and extremely reliable grinding system. The many advantages start with the structural design of the agitator mill: The horizontal orientation guarantees uniform filling of the grinding media into the grinding tank. Start-up of the mill with product is therefore unproblematic. The highest flow rates can be set without pressure build-up. The double-acting cassette-type mechanical seal is mounted in the reduced-flow area of the grinding chamber, so the mechanical load from grinding media is minimal. The product outlet is directly at the bottom of the grinding tank and is therefore easily accessible. The maintenance-free slotted pipe inside the grinding chamber prevents loss of grinding media when the machine is idle. During operation, the grinding media are kept away from the slotted pipe by the rotor of the separator system, thus preventing flow-induced bead compression and blockage. A displacement element in the slotted pipe increases the flow speed in the outlet area and, in conjunction with short pipelines, prevents product entrainment. Optional cooling of the displacement device lowers the discharge temperature of the product after it passes through the intensive grinding zone but while it is still inside the agitator bead mill. Cleaning made easy The optimized cleaning concept with a wash cycle system allows practically residue-free cleaning of the agitator LMZ 25 high-speed mill with NETZSCH-CERAM Z grinding chamber bead mill with minimal cleaning agent, all without emptying the grinding chamber. 7 Ergonomic design The machine stand for the ZETA series is of one-piece construction and is therefore very stabile and practically vibration-free. The feed pump can be mounted directly on the machine stand, shortening distance between the pump and the grinding chamber and thus minimizing product loss. If the grinding chamber is opened for maintenance, the removal assembly provides an expedient mounting aid. Disassembly of the grinding chamber and tank bottom requires no additional lifting equipment. The integrated service cart holds the entire bead charge and prevents loss of grinding media during maintenance. 8 Boundless Control and Monitoring The choice is yours Whether it s the standard version or integration into higher-level process control systems: A n abundance of control options are available for the ZETA grinding system. Providing the capability for efficient process control with the aid of energy input detection, the standard version NETZSCH BASE already exceeds the required safety functions. The automatic screen-cleaning sequence allows trouble-free processing of the most challenging products. Starting with the NETZSCH TEXT control system, automatic operation is possible with pre-set operating parameters. NETZSCH GRAPH offers various control strategies, the measured values are graphically associated with the test points on the display, each formula can be automatically processed according to individual parameters. In addition, we offer integration into higher-level control systems as well as data acquisition hardware and software just speak with our specialists. It serves to record measured values from a machine and consists of the hardware required to transfer the available measurements via an Ethernet connection and software for installation on a PC. The measured and input data are stored in a CSV file and the current measured values are displayed. The acquisition rate can be pre-set by the operator to intervals ranging from 1 s to 10 min. After successful data acquisition, additional evaluation in a spreadsheet program is possible.
