3 Date of Freezing New Requirement Only frozen unprocessed fishery products Pre Packed for the Consumer What is unprocessed? What date should be used? Where should the information be placed? Legibility?

4 Date of Freezing Unprocessed taken from the hygiene regulations Products can be prepared Example : frozen fish fillets Date used is when it was frozen for the consumer and the FIC became applicable Regulation 16/2012 requires date of freezing during the supply chain.

5 Date of Freezing Indicated by the words frozen on Followed by date as day/month/year Location on pack and font size not specified.

6 Date of Freezing Remember Point of freezing for consumer Only required on unprocessed products Can be anywhere on packaging

7 Defrosted Products No definition of defrosted Where products are moved from frozen storage conditions for sale to the consumer, the word defrosted must accompany the name of the food This is only required if the consumer could reasonably expect the product to have not been frozen.

8 Defrosted It does not apply where products have been frozen for reasons other than storage. Can label as defrosted if mixed or variable supply

9 Defrosted Products Applies to all products pre packed for the consumer Must accompany the name of the food. Must be near to the legal name of the food Does not have to comply with font size criteria

10 Defrosted Regulation 404/2011 also requires a product to declare if it is defrosted No consumer prejudice clause Only applies to CN03 products, loose or packed Can label as defrosted if mixed or variable supply.

11 Defrosted Remember All prepacked for consumer, only where the consumer may be misled. Needs to accompany the name of the food. All CN03 products Can be anywhere on label

12 Formed products Applicable to products which give the impression of a product made from a whole piece of fish, when it is in fact made from two or more pieces. Products must have the natural shape of fish formed must be used, but additional descriptions can be used to inform consumer of quality. Declaration should be near to the legal name, but no minimum font size.

13 Formed Remember Product must have the appearance of a whole piece of fish formed can be extended to give a more accurate description of the product quality There is no consumer prejudice clause.

14 Added Water Applicable to products which have the appearance of cut, slice or portion of fish Intentionally added water over 5% needs to be included in the name of the food. Water uptake during processing is excluded Glaze is excluded as not consumed No requirement to QUID water

15 Future - CMO Agreement reached on Regulation The gear type used in wild capture fisheries More detailed indication of the catch area. Voluntary information Flag state of the boat that caught it. Dates of landing and catch.
