4 FC KUHN LIFT-CONTROL MOWER-CONDITIONERS LIFT)CONTROL suspension: exclusive kinetics Any profits from animal husbandry start with the feed reserves stored in a silo, bales, or bunk. The aim is simple: produce as much meat or milk as possible from the basic feed ration components. To promote this objective the palatability of the feed must be maximized, encouraging as much uptake as possible while at the same time providing the maximum nutritional value. In this way the requirements for concentrates and supplements are considerably reduced thus increasing profitability. 4 Proven facts Weser-Ems Chamber of agriculture (Germany) Lowering the level of impurities from 4 % to 2% saves 82 Euros per hectare and per year! Serious studies have been performed in Germany, in a region of intensive production, to determine the financial effect of the quality of silage on a dairy farm. 5 The key to the system: Kinetics The LIFT-CONTROL device is much more than just a suspension system with a nitrogen accumulator replacing the traditional spring. The principal advantage of the LIFT-CONTROL system is derived from the exclusive way in which kinetic forces that act on the cutterbar are utilized. KUHN engineers have succeeded in making a dynamic suspension system as opposed to the passive system commonly in use. With the LIFT-CONTROL system as the force exerted on the cutterbar increases the suspension system automatically lightens the cutterbar. The greater the force the lighter the cutterbar. Vincent Bach Project Leader in the Design Office During our research, we wanted to find a system which would finally allow us to optimize suspension to harvest high-quality fodder, while providing a Non-Stop safety system. It was only when we tested the first prototype, that we really became aware of the incredible efficiency of LIFT-CONTROL How does it work in practice? When the cutter bar slides along the ground, it is inevitably subjected to backward stress 1. The greater this stress, the lighter the mowing unit becomes 2 through its exclusive LIFT-CONTROL kinetics. To mow with a mind at ease = ACTIVE Non-Stop break away! No farmer can afford to damage his mower during the peak season because of a forgotten or unnoticed obstacle or a false manoeuvre. The mowing head will pivot up to 25 degrees to the rear. At the same time the mowing head will lift to clear the obstruction and will then automatically reset into the original mowing position. There is no need to stop and reverse to reset the mower.

6 FC KUHN LIFT-CONTROL MOWER-CONDITIONERS Being n 1, is hard work Long-term durability 3 High-capacity guidance All gearwheels, made of forged steel, are large diameter: this characteristic ensures maximum strength which is particularly important in the event of impact on the discs. The disc bearings contain bearings with two rows of oblique contact ball-bearings: high-end components for the core of the cutter bars. 4 Symmetrical casings The end casings are made from two U-shaped plates, so that the mounting screws are located close to the neutral fibre. Consequently, there is no particular stress on the mounting screws and tightness, unlike designs with one U-shaped casing and a flat top plate. 2 PROTECTADRIVE Safety Every minute saved during the season is precious: in the event of a very violent impact between a disc and an obstacle, the shaft holding the disc can shear just above the bearing, thanks to a carefully dimensioned shear groove. The precious toothed wheels are protected. The saving is enormous: in less than 15 minutes the mower is operational once more at a very low repair cost! 5 Great wear resistance The front part of the disc, where the blades are mounted, is the area most actively involved in evacuating the forage and which may consequently be exposed to wear. KUHN has incorporated a massive forged steel part for work under abrasive conditions, to ensure the longest life possible.

The blade retaining pins are also equipped with a shoulder to provide an additional level of securement. The leaf spring can only be depressed to remove the blade at one point when the blade is centered over the shoe. Thus when the disc is rotating it is not possible for the blade to be released. To minimize costs the blade retention pin can be replaced separately from the leaf spring. The profile of the disc is not compromised by the Fast-Fit system. Detrimental effects on cutting quality are minimized. 7

With the LIFT-CONTROL range the mowing head is suspended at the centre of gravity point to ensure even weight distribution and a high quality cut across the entire width. 8 The mowing unit pivot angle enables obtaining a clean cut in all conditions, including with a large working width. Control with confidence Control of the mowing head is easy and precise. The hydraulic requirements have been minimized to reduce reaction times and a single hydraulic valve is all that is required to raise and lower the mowing head. The minimum lift clearance of 40 cm (16") easily clears obstructions and previously cut crop. Extra-strong covers Because user safety is a paramount issue for KUHN, the protective covers resist perforation or tearing to a distinctly higher degree than what is required by government safety standards or what is supplied by other manufacturers. 10 FC KUHN LIFT-CONTROL MOWER-CONDITIONERS With fingers or rollers, the objective is the same: fast, high-quality drying Avoid excess weight with nylon fingers On a mounted machine, any extra weight accumulates in the mowing unit, requiring a bigger weight-bearing structure and in the end a heavier tractor using more fuel. This is the main reason why KUHN uses nylon finger conditioners on its machines. These are not only lighter but also very effective for fast drying! Water Sugar The fingers that work the crop are V-shaped and made of a highly resilient material which stays supple on a transversal level. 1. Should a foreign body pass through the conditioner, the fingers can bend out of the way and then regain their original position without being damaged. 2. The fingers are rigid in the rotational direction of the rotor, which enables a fluffy and regular swath to be obtained. This reduces drying times thanks to improved air circulation.
