Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC INDUSTRIES SUPERMARKET SUPERMARKET AND FOOD PREPARATION Evac systems bring a competitive edge to grocery stores, supermarkets and hypermarkets by increasing store layout and design flexibility making store remodeling less expensive and faster. Evac s overhead vacuum system removes condensation from refrigerated cases and drains water from sinks and free-standing kiosks avoiding any gravity concern. Easy remodeling Highlights: Reduce cost of store remodeling Reduce construction and remodeling schedule Minimize customer disruption Enlarge or relocate departments without cutting the finished floor Eliminate underground unknowns during remodels and conversions Reduce maintenance Reduce odor with vacuum grease separation It is easy to remodel without damaging finished floors while avoiding floor and roof penetrations. Unlike gravity systems where sewer piping is enclosed in concrete, the store can operate independent of foundation constraints. No concrete and tile work is needed when relocating or adding display cases. Buffer boxes hidden above the slab and under the freezer cases are easy to move. Floor plan can be adjusted quickly and easily at the last minute. The close time of the store and customer disruption are greatly reduced. Easy maintenance Maintenance is easier, cheaper and quicker with easy access to above slab buffer and overhead piping compared to under slab gravity system. Evac parts can be changed without hand tools for quick and easy maintenance. Minimal customer disruption New concepts and services can be added overnight without disruption to store operation. The piping system is air tight and air can only leak in so no odor or sewage can affect the customer experience. A gravity floor drain will dry out and release odor to the premises when there is a little or no condensate produced.. 4

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC INDUSTRIES CORRECTIONAL CORRECTIONAL BUILDING Increased Security and Control Less maintenance means fewer maintenance personnel in secured areas. Correctional Officers can shut off individual or blocks of toilets prior to shakedowns, eliminating the toilet as a means of disposing contraband or weapons. The vacuum toilet makes flushed contraband irretrievable and also eliminates communication and passing of contraband between cells. Highlights: Increase security and control Reduce maintenance and especially in cell maintenance Reduce construction time and costs Reduce water and sewage cost Reduced Maintenance Evac virtually eliminates main line blockages by restricting abusive materials from entering the piping system at the toilet. Attempted abuse is isolated in the cell at the toilet fixture so that disciplinary measures can resolve future attempts. Reduced Construction Time and Costs The smaller diameter vacuum piping system can be installed horizontally or vertically. Waste piping is typically routed above the slab, minimizing the need for costly and time consuming trenching. This allows flexibility in the layout, design, and installation: saving time and costs on both new construction and remodeling projects. Reduces Water and Sewage Cost The Evac Vacuum Toilet uses less than 1/2 gallon per flush (1.2 L). Water acquisition and sewage disposal cost can be dramatically reduced. Examples: 250 beds facility: 2 M Gallons saved each year! (7560 m 3 /year) 1000 beds facility: 8 M Gallons saved each year! (30240 m 3 /year). 5

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC INDUSTRIES HEALTHCARE HEALTHCARE BUILDING Increased hygiene Unlike conventional toilets, permitting bacteria and odor to enter the atmosphere, the Evac toilet takes out up to 60 liters of air on each flush, removing virus, bacteria and odor from the bowl and into the system enhancing hygiene and personal comfort within washrooms. By encouraging the cycle of air, the toilet accommodation will stay fresh. Highlights: Reduce risk of contamination Reduce odor Reduce radioactive wastewater volume and save space Reduce water consumption Reduce construction schedule Save footprint As Evac toilets have a very low consumption of water, the actual amount of the produced sewage is reduced. This is particularly valuable for radioactive treatment department where radioactive wastewater is produced and has to be contained until radioactivity has decreased before discharge to the city sewer or treatment plant. The amount of wastewater to store is extremely reduced and allow great space saving. In addition the risk of leakage of radioactive wastewater in the piping is reduced as the piping network is under vacuum condition only air can leak in. Save time During construction, remodeling and maintenance, disruption of healthcare operations are minimized. With no multiple floor penetration, and accessible piping network, the construction work is cleaner and faster.. 6

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC INDUSTRIES COMMERCIAL AND HEAVY DUTY COMMERCIAL BUILDING & HEAVY DUTY Cost saving A typical vacuum toilet requires just over one liter of water per flush - one sixth of that used by a conventional toilet, as they have very low water consumption. Consequently, the water bill is greatly reduced especially in heavy duty building such as airport or train station where public toilets are the main source of water consumption. Highlights: Save water and water cost Gain green label points Preserve historical building Increase net leasable space Reduce loss of activity with tight construction and remodeling schedule Water saving Vacuum toilet systems are very environmentally friendly - one of the biggest savings on natural resources is the dramatic reduction in water consumption. Also the actual amount of the produced sewage is reduced - helping to ease the burden on overloaded public sewage plants. Green label Water saving with Evac systems allows getting between 7 and 10 points on the LEED and BREAM label, with low water consumption and advanced wastewater treatment for reuse. It also participates to company green policy. Business boosting Historical building can be preserved with Evac system, offering great opportunities for remodeling and refurbishing while conserving the building structure and features. By allowing great flexibility in water features layout, the building net lease space is increased. Construction and remodeling time is greatly reduced so that commercial activity can be start or restarted in a very tight schedule.. 7

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC INDUSTRIES SEPTIC SYSTEM SEPTIC TANKS DISCHARGE Train stations and pits Evac s systems are used to empty passenger cars septic tanks, which collect all sewage on a train. The suction stations can be located on separate service lanes or inside a train hangar and the vacuum units can be located in outdoor inside containers and sheds, or inside technical areas. The vacuum ensures that the septic tanks are emptied fast, smoothly and in a clean way so that the trains can continue the journey and serve the passengers. Highlights: Provide fast and clean drainage of train and ship septic tanks Provide ready to use operation Avoid clogging Reduce storage volume requirements Marina solutions The Evac system can be installed in a simple shed on the pier, with the suction pipes submerged into or below the pier. The suction stations are positioned in convenient positions for the ships to empty their septic tanks. The vacuum units stay on standby, ready to operate whenever an operator open an emptying valve. Remote area Cabins, cottages, houses and other remote small-scale buildings can utilize vacuum toilets because of the water saving benefits. Whenever sewage treatment or the disposal of sewage water is challenging, vacuum toilets will minimize the amount of waste compared to the traditional gravity toilet system and hence the size of the decentralized treatment or storage.. 8

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC SYSTEMS HOW DOES IT WORK EVAC VACUUM SYSTEM Evac solutions are based on vacuum transport, not gravity, which makes it possible to move wastewater horizontally or even lift vertically into overhead piping. Vacuum even allows you to move over and around obstacles. A vacuum drainage system is able to transfer all of the wastewater and condensate inside a building to any single location without additional pumping stations. The Evac wastewater handling solution is an integrated system that consists of vacuum toilets, grey water and condensate vacuum interface units, vacuum piping, vacuum collection tanks, as well as wastewater treatment plants. Evac toilets and grey water interfaces can be installed just about anywhere in a building. Pipes are small bore (normally 50mm) and can be routed around and even over obstructions. As they are not reliant on the locations of service core and do not need vent stacks, design flexibility is maximized. Anywhere you can imagine an Evac toilet system in the design of your new build or refurbishment project, it can be achieved. Evac systems give vertical lift of up to 4 to 5 meters for wastewater and up to 6 m for condensate, giving unparalleled flexibility in installation. Now you can position toilet cubicles, urinals, showers and hand basins wherever you want, regardless of conventional soil stack practice. Toilet facilities can even be located below the level of the vacuum plant module. As there is no need to be adjacent to a central soil stack, the location of toilet accommodation can vary from floor to floor. Evac vacuum pipes can be located in ceiling voids and floor spaces - in fact just about anywhere! They can easily be routed around beams, fire walls, ventilation systems and other obstacles. This can translate into significant reductions in the minimum floor to floor height. Evac System Gravity System. 9

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC SYSTEMS HOW DOES IT WORK In speculative buildings, a prospective tenant will often wish to plan the space available in a building to suit its business operation. The Evac system gives you this extra capability. Final decisions on the floor plan can be delayed leaving maximum room to maneuver and giving the client maximum flexibility to plan space. Most businesses go through some form of office reorganization on a regular basis - growth, departmental restructuring and even downsizing, all affect the layout of a building. The Evac system opens the door to a wide range of space planning options than have not previously been possible. Space reorganization projects, which involve changing the location of washrooms, are made easy and do not demand major rebuilding works. Evac System Gravity System Every Evac system, when installed, is a closed loop. This is particularly important where an organization requires that waste must be contained if contamination is considered high risk, e.g. Hospitals, Research Facilities and Prisons. All waste is stored in a central vacuum module before being discharged to either a municipal sewer, or disposed of via specialist waste disposal facility. Evac systems reduce leakage problems. Because the entire system is under vacuum, leaks pull air in and don't not allow waste and odor to exit. The opposite is true with gravity systems. Evac System Gravity System. 10

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC SYSTEMS HOW DOES IT WORK EVAC VACUUM TOILETS A conventional toilet consumes seven liters of water every time it is flushed. The Evac toilet typically uses just over one liter of water per flush - one sixth of that used by a conventional toilet. Using less water will bring significant cost savings as water rates rise. Evac systems are also cleaner. Unlike conventional toilets which permit bacteria and odors to enter the atmosphere, the Evac toilet takes out up 60 liters of air on each flush, removing viruses, bacteria and odors from the bowl and into the system enhancing hygiene and personal comfort within washrooms. By encouraging the cycle of air, toilet accommodations will stay fresh. The Evac Vacuum Toilet System could not be simpler. Instead of relying on traditional solutions, which use the principle of gravity to remove waste and are heavily reliant on the location of services cores and outgoing sewer connections, the Evac system creates a powerful vacuum to flush the toilet. Once the flush button is pushed, a pneumatic signal is sent to the control mechanism, which opens the discharge valve by allowing vacuum from the pipe work system to enter the discharge valve diaphragm thus connecting the bowl to the vacuum system. Air at atmospheric pressure then forces the sewage through the discharge valve and into the piping. Simultaneously the water valve is opens and pressurized rinse water cleans the bowl. This whole operation is performed using just vacuum, NO electrical connections are required. Evac toilets can be re-flushed more than four times as fast as conventional gravity toilet. On average, an Evac toilet will take 3 seconds to complete a flush cycle. Evac vacuum toilets are quiet when compared with traditional systems, during the flush cycle, as there is no toilet cistern to refill. Evac System Gravity System. 11

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC SYSTEMS HOW DOES IT WORK EVAC VACUUM INTERFACE UNITS FOR STANDARD FEATURES Whilst the Evac vacuum toilet is an integral part of the system, the system will accept waste from all other gravity fixtures, including wash basins, baths, urinals, sumps and showers using a Vacuum Interface Valve. The Evac vacuum interface unit is similar in operation to the Evac vacuum toilet. The activator is triggered when a static head has been built up in the collection buffer. The activator transfers the operating vacuum to the plunger diaphragm so that the discharge valve opens. After 3 seconds the activator shall close the supply of the operating vacuum to the discharge valve which immediately closes. The whole operation is automatic and, once again, no electrical connections are required. The vacuum Interface units allow standard bathroom fittings to be connected to the vacuum drainage system in new build projects and eliminate the need to replace existing fittings in a refurbishment project. Sequences of an Evac floor drain operation. 12

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC SYSTEMS HOW DOES IT WORK EVAC VACUUM INTERFACE FOR CONDENSATE COLLECTION Condensate water enters a tank or section of piping called a buffer, placed on the slab below the display case. The buffer acts as a temporary collection for the water and operates the same way as a grey water interface system. As condensate water accumulates in the buffer, a pneumatic signal equivalent to a certain water column is sent to the activator. The activator opens the vacuum discharge valve and the condensate water is transported toward the collection station. The activator controls the amount of time in which the vacuum valve is open. The Evac vacuum condensate collection system uses the same principles as the larger vacuum waste collection systems found in hotels and sports centers providing total system reliability and minimal maintenance. A vacuum collection system in a supermarket allows for the refrigerated display case condensate waste piping to be mounted in the overhead near the roof joists. A lift as great as 6 m can be accomplished using an Evac vacuum waste collection system. Example of Evac system layout for supermarket condensate collection. 13

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL EVAC SYSTEMS HOW DOES IT WORK EVAC ADVANCED WASTEWATER TREATMENT The Evac MBR is based on proven membrane bioreactor technology, which is capable of filtering out particles as small as bacteria. The treatment process consists of three phases: Pre-treatment: flow equalization and maceration Biological process: aerobic organic removal or all nutrients including organic, nitrogen and phosphorus Membrane filtration: with effective pore size of 0.01 µm ( mm) providing biomass retention, particulate matter retention and disinfection Highlights: Robust and reliable Very small footprint Odorless Very high effluent quality Minimized sludge production Energy conservative operation 7-10 years life membrane Compared to a conventional biological treatment: Up to 5 times smaller, Can handle more than twice the organic loading Better performances, up to 6 times less pollutants Clean water is separated from the biomass by membrane filtration. Evac MBR membranes are submerged flatsheet type membranes. The pressure difference for the membrane filtration is only around 30 mbar; such a small amount of pressure acting on the membranes guarantees them an extremely long lifetime. The treated water does not need any further disinfection and can be discharged directly into sensitive areas or it can be reused. The Evac MBR does not require any back-flushing or constant chemical cleaning, making it the most economical and maintenance-friendly membrane solution. The Evac standard MBR is also available as a combined unit with vacuum generation integrated. All Evac MBR models have effluent quality certification, and have been tested by a certified laboratory for 6 months. 90 Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL VACUUM COLLECTING UNITS HORIZON JUNIOR L220-S30 Vacuum suction for supermarket condensate The Evac Vacuum Collection System is designed to collect, transport, and discharge condensate and other gray water wastes, while eliminating or significantly reducing the under-floor drainage piping in the supermarket s sales area. The vacuum system Horizon Jr is composed of: Electrical Control Panel Assembly Vacuum Pumps liquid ring (rotary displacement) Waste Collection Tank Vacuum Control Solenoid Valves Advantages Small footprint Ideal for small projects High reliability with low maintenance Quiet operation Flow diagram Vent Vent Inlet Vacuum pumps Sealing water tank Vacuum collection tank Filter Water supply Outlet. 1

Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL VACUUM COLLECTING UNITS HORIZON JUNIOR L220-S30 Functioning The Vacuum Central is responsible for supplying and maintaining negative pressure (vacuum) on the system piping, receiving all waste water collected, and the discharge of waste water to the building sewer system. The liquid-ring vacuum pump generates a vacuum by forming a sealing ring of liquid water. Liquid-ring pumps are rotary displacement pumps particularly suited to pumping gases and vapors, which may contain small amounts of liquid. The Vacuum Central uses a fresh water connection in series with a water reservoir to supply the liquid-ring pump with the proper amount of sealing fluids. 98 VACUUM COLLECTING UNITS HORIZON L HORIZON L HORIZON L HORIZON L Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL Functioning The Vacuum Central is responsible for generating and maintaining vacuum on the system piping. The liquidring vacuum pump generate vacuum by forming a sealing ring of water. Liquid-ring pumps are rotary displacement pumps particularly suited to pumping gases and vapors, which may contain small amounts of liquid. The Vacuum Central uses a fresh water connection in conjunction with a re-circulating water reservoir to supply the liquid-ring pump with the proper amount of sealing fluids. The collection tanks receive all waste water collected and discharge waste water to the building sewer system. Each tank operates independently of the other controlled by the level float switches. 110 Date: 08 January 2015 Doc GENERAL VACUUM COLLECTING UNITS GAL COLLECTION TANK GAL COLLECTION TANK GAL COLLECTION TANK GAL COLLECTION TANK GAL COLLECTION TANK Functioning The primary vacuum tank has a control system that provides fully automatic collection capabilities. The control panel enables the operator to select the mode of operation for the vacuum pumps. It automatically maintains normal system operation without operator assistance and identifies abnormal conditions by alarm lights. The panel door contains switches for mode selection, motor run lights, red alarm lights, alarm reset test pushbutton, and hour meters. The secondary vacuum tank provides additional holding volume. Both tanks fill simultaneously and provide a total holding volume of 320 to 1880 gallons. The primary and secondary tanks are interconnected by piping to equalize the sewage level and vacuum level. Level sensors on each tank function together to provide level indication and prevent overfilling. The operation of the collection system depends upon the differential air pressure between the ambient air and vacuum level in the vacuum piping and collection tank. This pressure differential creates flow from the fixtures to the collection tank. Operating vacuum at the collection tank is normally within the range of 14 to 18 in. Hg. The vacuum gauge indicates the gauge pressure, which is the pressure difference between the negative pressure in the collection tank and atmospheric pressure. During normal operation, air and sewage enter the collection tank from the toilets and vacuum interface valves. As the operating vacuum decreases, the vacuum sensor starts up the lead vacuum pump. The vacuum pumps maintain the vacuum for the operation of the toilets and interface valves. As sewage is collected, the vacuum decreases to 14 inches Hg, which starts the lead vacuum pump. The lead pump restores the vacuum to 18 inches Hg. The lead and lag pump alternate for each operating cycle. During peak loading conditions, the lag vacuum pump will cut in if the vacuum drops to 12 inches Hg. If the vacuum continues to remain below 12 inches Hg for 10 minutes or more, the low vacuum alarm will come on. Each vacuum pump will remain on for 10 min. once there is a demand for vacuum. The vacuum pump isolation valve will automatically open and close to regulate the vacuum in the tank during that time. Each collection tank contains three level sensors, positioned to notify system operators when the tank is at low level (30%), high level (75%), and block level (80%). It is recommended to discharge the sewage when high level is reached, or before. When block level is reached, sewage must be discharged before operation can resume. 166 Date: 03 March 2015 Doc PIPING PIPING GUIDELINES NORTH AMERICA PIPING GUIDELINES FOR OTHER TYPES OF BUILDING 1. Vacuum sewer A 2 in. nominal size pipe is the basic size for vacuum sewer piping. A 1-1/2 in. pipe can be used where the main is very short or where not more than two toilets are connected. All piping from the outlet pipe of a toilet to a branch or main sewer line should be 1-1/2 in. pipe. All bends in the piping must be made with long turn (long radius) 90-deg elbows or two 45-deg elbows. All horizontal piping runs are to be installed with a slight pitch downward of 1/16 in. per foot (0.5%) minimum in the direction of the flow. When a lift is required, a small reforming pocket or trap must be placed in the line at the bottom of the vertical pipe (Fig. 16). The offset from the bottom of the incoming pipe to the top of the pocket must be more than 1/2 in. dia (D = diameter of piping). The pocket must have enough depth to allow the sewage slug to seal the pipe at the base of the lift. The top of a vertical lift pipe must enter the sewer main or branch at the top of that pipe (refer to Fig. 17). A gooseneck in the line where the vertical lift enters the next horizontal section is recommended also. If a toilet on a second floor has a discharge into a common sewer line with a toilet on a lower deck, the lift for the toilet on the lower floor requires a check valve at the top of its lift.. 16

Date: 03 March 2015 Doc PIPING PIPING GUIDELINES NORTH AMERICA Where the sewer main must bypass an existing obstruction, passage under the obstruction is recommended. Passage under small obstructions (3 feet maximum span) can be accomplished as shown in Figure 18. Where the obstruction is longer, a reforming pocket must be placed at the end of the obstruction just prior to the beginning of a lift section that rises back to the higher level as shown in Figure 19. Branch lines must intersect horizontal mains through a 45-deg fitting. Where the branch line is directly serving toilets or inlet valves, the branch fitting may be rolled so that the branch enters at a minimum angle of 45-deg with the horizontal (see Fig. 20). Branch mains must intersect vertical mains through a 45-deg fitting as shown in Figure 4-7. No T-fittings should be used except where indicated on EVAC NORTH AMERICA approved installation drawings. 2. Overhead sewer main Generally, when toilets or inlet valves are required to discharge into a vacuum sewer main that is located overhead, the lift must be made immediately after each toilet or inlet valve. An overhead main must have sufficient vacuum volume to accept a flush from a toilet. Ideally, the main should have 10 times the volume of the vertical riser pipe in that portion of the main that is downstream of the riser connection. 3. Horizontal and vertical piping runs The vacuum sewer piping must be adequately supported and braced laterally and longitudinally (see Fig. 21) to prevent thrust movement or sagging of the piping. Bracing should be installed within 2 feet of each piping bend and each piping intersection. Vacuum piping must be braced at intervals of 8 to 10 feet for metal pipe and 6 feet for plastic pipe. When the sewer main runs horizontally with no lifts, reforming pockets must be located at intervals as follows:. 22

Figure 21 Horizontal and vertical supports To prevent backflow, the lift pipe has to rise above the level of the following downstream horizontal pipeline. The lift pipe must be vertical and straight without any changes of direction. The lift pipe also must be connected to the horizontal main pipe at an angle of 45 deg and at a point above the centerline of the main pipe. The diameter of the lift pipe must not be enlarged anywhere in the rising part of the lift pipe (see Fig. 22) or the sewage slug will disintegrate. If necessary, the diameter can be reduced slightly however. The combined height of the rising parts of any horizontal run of piping must not exceed 24 ft (5 m). The descending parts of a horizontal run cannot be subtracted to arrive at the total combined height.. 23

Cleanouts Generally, cleanouts (refer to Fig. 23) should be located at a maximum of 60 ft (18.3 m) intervals and preferably at intervals of 50 ft (15 m). There should be no more than one 90-deg directional change between cleanouts. The cleanouts must be located so that the piping can be reached at all points. The cleanouts are to be installed in such a way that they do not leak in the case of a backflow. Particular care should be taken to provide cleanouts in those places where water remains standing so the pipes can be cleaned since in these places there is sedimentation that easily causes stoppages. These are the locations where cleanouts must be installed: 1. At the end of horizontal mains 2. At the upper end of vertical trunk lines 3. At maximum intervals of 60 ft on horizontal pipelines 4. At reforming pockets 5. At 90-deg bends made by the main on the horizontal level 5. Valves Hand valves must be the full-port ball type or straight-through diaphragm type. 6. Discharge piping The sewage discharge piping exits from the check valve located after the discharge port of the discharge pump. The sewage discharge piping must be sufficiently supported so that no load is placed on the discharge outlet. An isolation valve (full-port ball or diaphragm type) must be provided in the sewage discharge piping.. 24

Date: 11 Mar 2011 Doc. 5:01002H PIPING PIPING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE 1. General This document provides information on pipe operation and maintenance and should be used as advisory only. The maintenance must be carried out by qualified and authorized personnel to avoid any risks and misuses. Safety instructions must be followed while carrying out manitenance. Follow-up of pipe condition As sewage is an aggressive liquid and can cause corrosion, which may lead to leakages in pipes and in system components, it is recommended that the piping should be inspected 2-4 times per year visually through the cleaning plugs and flanges. During inspection also check the cleanliness of the pipe. The risk of built-up deposits is most likely in horizontal pipe lines, near urinals, in places where the sewage flow is slow, and in areas with high temperatures. If any serious deposits or build-ups occur, clean the pipe with the following method: rinse the piping with a lime-removing agent, e.g % phosphoric acid or similar. The agent should be poured into the toilet at the end of each main branch of piping. The acid should be allowed to work for some hours depending on the amount of built-up solids. Occasionally a piping treatment may be necessary in which toilets and other components are removed and piping plugged, and filled with a circulating chemical for 4-24 hours at regular intervals.! NOTE: Before filling the piping with chemicals, check the pipes for leaks by filling them with water. Strong chemicals may be harmful to the pipes and the biological treat ment plant.! HINT: Today s camera technology (camera into vacuum piping) makes it very easy to locate problem sections in the piping and to find indications on how frequently the pipes should be cleaned. 2. Pipe cleaning Best results will be achieved if regular cleaning procedures are adopted from the very beginning of the vessel s delivery from the yard. Evac has developed an automatic dosing pump set (P/N ) through which cleaning chemicals can be fed into the piping automatically. Pipe cleaning with chemicals Over time vacuum sewage piping may exhibit signs of built-up deposits. In most cases this problem may either be reduced or totally eliminated by undertaking relatively simple preventive maintenance measures. It is recommended that ships experiencing problems with build-ups adopt the following maintenance routine: Install automatic dosing pump sets in strategic locations of the piping. Pour suitable chemicals (see attached list) into each toilet at the end of each vacuum line with a build-up problem and flush the toilets. Initially repeat the procedure every week. Once the problem has been brought under control, repeat the treatment regularly. In service cases it is recommended to contact an experienced service company to solve the problem.! NOTE: If used excessively, certain chemicals may degrade the performance of some biological treatment plants. Local regulations must be adhered to when handling some of the listed chemicals. 2

Date: 11 March 2011 Doc. 5:01002H PIPING PIPING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE PLEASE CONSULT YOUR LOCAL EVAC DISTRIBUTORS FOR CLEANING PRODUCTS. 3. Pipe cleaning examples Build-ups tend to form in places such as low bends in the horizontal part of the piping, where the sewage may lie still for longer periods of time or where the flow velocity is low. Heat stimulates the build-up of deposits. Piping cleaning, dosing method 1. Pipe cleaning is carried out by an automatic dosing unit at the end of pipe line approximately once per week. Automatic dosing pump Chemical tank. 3

Date: 11 Mar 2011 Doc. 5:01002H PIPING PIPING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE 2. It is recommended to dose the manifold and the collecting unit with chemicals, to keep the pumps and ejector valves free from deposits. Chemical Manifold! NOTE: It is recommended to use the dosing method regularly to avoid the need of using more complicated methods. Piping cleaning, cooking method! NOTE: Only for toilets with discharge pipes downwards. 1. Estimate the volume of the piping system in order to fill the piping with the correct amount of chemical for the treatment. 4

Date: 11 Mar 2011 Doc. 5:01002H PIPING PIPING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE 2. Isolate the horizontal branch pipe undergoing treatment from the vertical main pipe with the shut-off valve. 3. Check the piping drawings to be sure that there are no connections to, for instance, toilets with riser pipes. Chemical mixture may overflow through the riser toilets. 4. It is always recommended to pressure test the piping with water to ensure that there are no leaks or connections with overflow possibility before chemicals are fed into the pipe. 5

Date: 11 Mar 2011 Doc. 5:01002H PIPING PIPING OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE 5. There can be places in the piping system where a drilled hole has been used to find the location of a pipe blockage. Occasionally such drill holes may have been plugged inappropriately only to with stand vacuum, not pressure or chemicals. In this case there is a risk the cleaning chemical may penetrate the plugged hole and cause leakage. Such holes shall be secured properly by ordinary connectors prior to the work and pressure tested with water. A drilled hole 6. To ventilate the piping during chemical filling, open the vacuum piping end to the chemical feeding. It is important that the open end of the piping system is well ventilated, because the chemical cleaning process is creating toxic gases. Do not have nacked flames, sparks, or any sources of fire in the vicinity of the open end of piping. Proper ventilation Chemical 7. Fill the branch pipe with the cleaning chemical. The reaction between the deposits and the chemical will start immediately and the cooking process begins. 8. During treatment, the piping can be knocked to dislodge the deposits from the pipe walls. 9. Normally the treatment time varies from 4 to 24 hours. 10. After treatment, flush the piping thoroughly with water starting from the toilets nearest the vertical main pipe. (If the flushing will be started from the end of the horizontal main pipe, there is a risk that the removed deposits will block the pipe). Occasionally a second treatment may be necessary. Piping cleaning, circulation method There are speciliazed companies to clean sewage pipes by circulating cleaning chemicals through the piping section. All components are first disconnected from the section pipe to be cleaned. Piping is filled with water to be sure that there are no leaks. Chemical circulation hoses are connected to the pipe to be cleaned. Chemical is circulated until the section pipe is clean. When using cleaning chemicals always follow manufacturer s instructions for safe use chemical and disposal. 6
