2 Solutions to Key Issues, from BES Healthcare The Issues: Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI s) are becoming more prevalent in the community. Since 2010, there are now more cases of E. coli, MRSA, and C. diff infections reported from the community as compared with the acute sector. It is contaminated equipment that can lead to crosscontamination of patients. Up to 60% of surfaces and equipment get cross-contaminated in rooms with MRSA infected patients. After touching objects alone (and not the patients) in rooms with MRSA patients, 42% of nurses contaminated their gloves with MRSA (Boyce et al: 1997). In another study, up to 59% of environmental samples in occupied rooms in a residential/care home setting were positive with C. diff. 5 The Machine Features The body of every AquaPhase washer is made of durable stainless steel. An effective wash is achieved through water and chemical application from oscillating stainless steel spray arms. For loading and unloading large items, the AQ4000 range can be provided with optional ramps. AquaPhase washers offer a choice of wash cycle times (3, 5, or 7 minutes) depending on the size of the wash load and level of contamination. The AquaPhase has separate fill and drain hoses which segregate clean and dirty water. The machines have a chemical application system to dose the right amount of chemicals each wash, without human intervention. AquaPhases have a LCD cycle status display and windows which help the user to monitor wash cycles. Heavy duty caster wheels help in easily moving the machine from one location to another. The AquaPhase range is available as pass-through options providing the facility to load dirty equipment from a dirty zone, and unload at the end of the cycle in a clean zone, to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. AQ4000 equipment is supplied with a motor controlled conveyor belt to assist with loading and unloading the large wash chamber.
