2 Advanced, efficient humidification PURE PRESSURIZED WATER AND MICRO-TURBINE INJECTION NOZZLES The DriSteem High-Pressure Atomizing System provides high-quality, industrialgrade humidification solutions suitable for a wide variety of applications. The system s high-pressure pump propels purified, unheated water past a small turbine inside each dispersion nozzle. This fragments water droplets into ultra-fine particles that quickly absorb in warm air-handler airstreams or open spaces. ENERGY-EFFICIENT HUMIDIFICATION DriSteem s High-Pressure Atomizing System uses heat already present in air to evaporate evenly-distributed water droplets. In warm, dry applications, atomization is the most energy-efficient humidification system. REDUCES COOLING LOAD As atomized water droplets are absorbed, the evaporation causes air temperature to drop, reducing the cooling load. This provides significant energy savings when cooling and humidifying simultaneously. DriSteem High-Pressure Atomizing System installed in an air handler REDUCES WATER WASTE The system s Vapor-logic controller monitors multiple conditions to modulate and control nozzle operation. This optimizes absorption and minimizes water waste. 3 Features and benefits THE MOST-ADVANCED ADIABATIC TECHNOLOGY Water under pressure up to 1200 psi (8.27 MPa) delivered to hi-tech atomizing nozzles; no pressurized air required Atomizing nozzles sized and manifolds configured per application requirements Micro-turbines in nozzles fragment water droplets into ultra-fine particles (90% are ten microns or less) Integral check valve inside nozzle ensures no dripping when system shuts off Final evaporation media installed three feet (0.9 m) or more downstream from heating coil prevents wetting farther downstream Extremely low installation and operation costs Humidifies and cools in air handlers, ducts, or open spaces System capacities from 250 to 5500 lbs/hr (11 to 2495 kg/h) COOLING EFFECT SAVES ENERGY Every pound of atomized humidification removes approximately 1000 Btu of heat from the air (every kg of atomized humidification removes approximately 2250 kj of heat from the air) Significant HVAC system energy savings occurs when cooling and humidifying simultaneously Utility rebates can offset costs LOW MAINTENANCE Stainless-steel pump is cooled by purified humidification supply water; 8,000 hours before maintenance check Stainless steel nozzles and manifolds require no maintenance NOZZLE COMPONENTS Thorough water filtration protects stainless-steel components from corrosion and undue wear 1 High-pressure water flows past a micro-turbine, breaking water into fine particles. 2 Water exits calibrated nozzle orifice, where water particle size is further reduced. 1 2 Integral check-valve eliminates dripping when nozzle shuts off. 10 Evaporation efficiency EVAPORATION EFFICIENCY IN AIR HANDLERS AND DUCTS Once water is dispersed into a moving airstream, many factors affect evaporation efficiency, or how much of that water will evaporate. Factors affecting evaporation efficiency are included in the following example. The following are known: Humidification load = 85 lbs/hr (175 kg/h) Available evaporation distance = 4 ft (1.2 m) Leaving air temperature = 55 F (12.8 C) Air velocity = 500 fpm (2.54 m/s) Entering air grains of moisture per pound of dry air = 15 (Entering air grams of moisture per kilogram of dry air = 2.1) Entering air dew point temperature = 20 F ( 6.7 C) Leaving air RH = 55% AHU INSTALLATION EXAMPLE 1' (0. m) minimum 2' to 4'* (0.6 to 1.2 m) Airflow Dispersion manifold Heating coil Final evaporation media Cooling coil Floor pitched to drain * Evaporation efficiency increases as distance between dispersion manifold and final evaporation media increases. 11 Evaporation efficiency USING THE EVAPORATION EFFICIENCY CHART This evaporation efficiency chart below is based on 4-ft (1.2 m) evaporation distance, 55 F (12.8 C) leaving air temperature, and 500 fpm (2.54 m/s) air velocity. Using these values, the chart identifies: Required entering air temperature = 68 F (20 C) Evaporation efficiency = 70% From these values, required system capacity can be calculated: To accurately size a High-Pressure Atomizing System, first define all the values, as shown in this section. This will ensure a system that maximizes efficiency and delivers consistent output.
