Germ Presentation why they are SO BAD!!!! By, Zach W, Zach O, Jason H, Samuel W. PHEOCS Investigation

We are doing this to investigate germs. the different kinds, where they can be found, where more germs are then other germs. Here are some facts that we have learned through our research. 1. what are germs? Its a very small microorganism that can spread throughout the world. they are hard to see which makes it more dangerous. 2. What do Germs do? Germs can Cause Diseases and sickness after they get in you and infect your body with germs. 3. Where do Germs Live? Germs live in or on dirt, water, and countertops. Germs live anywhere where an livingbeen lives and then they can spread then keep spreading then next thing you know they are all over the world infecting the world. 4. How do Germs Spread? Germs need to get into your body to spread throughout your body they also can travel through the air from the wind and by sporing more of itself. 5. How can you Prevent the Spread of Germs? You can prevent the spread of Germs by Washing your hands after you go to the bathroom or before you eat everyday or clean your body. PHEOCS Background Information

The bacteria from the different rooms is going to grow up to about the size that a human eye can see. A class room chair will have the most bacteria on it because it is the most used room in the school. the chair has a lot of Germs in that area of the chair will be very dirty Tables/desk will have the least amount of germs PHEOCS Hypothesis

1. 6 Petri Dishes (4 inch size) 2. Agar Nutrient (5 Grams) 3. Hand Sanitizer 4. 6 Cotton Swabs 5. Beaker to Boil Water 6. Water 7.Zipper-Lock Bag PHEOCS Designing experiment

Step 1 Wash each petri dish in hot, soapy water before you use it. Step 2 Do not place the petri dish in boiling water or dishwasher with heated dry turned on. Step 3 Make sure the dish is sterile before you get started. And to make sure nobody touches it. Step 4 Next grab the bag of nutrient agar (awger). Step 5 You will need a clean microwave safe container to mix and heat the agar with water. Step 6 Mix the entire bag of agar (about 5 grams) with one cup (240mL) of hot water and stir. then put it in microwave and bring it to a boil. Step 7 Bring this mixture to a boil for 1 min to completely dissolve the agar. Step 8 If you are using the microwave oven to boil the mixture be careful not to let the solution boil over. PHEOCS Designing experiment

Step 9 The mixture should be clear, no particles should be floating around the solution. Step 10 Allow the mixture to cool for 3 to 5 minutes before moving onto the next step. Step 11 Fill the bottom half of the petri dish one half full with the warm nutrient solution. Step 12 Cover each petri dish with the lid and allow the solution to cool and harden for at least an hour. Step 13 Choose the items that you will be taking a bacteria sample of with a cotton swab. Step 14 Clean the cotton swab by rinsing it with water. Step 15 Collect some bacteria on the end of a cotton swab from your selected item or location. Step 16 Remove lid from petri dish and draw a squiggly line on it with agar. Step 17 Label the petri dish with what was swabbed. Step 18 Keep track of the results. Step 19 Repeat steps 13 through 18 for different items or locations PHEOCS Designing experiment
