2 SAFETY CONSDERATONS nstalling, starting up, and servicing air-conditioning equipent can be hazardous due to syste pressures, electrical coponents, and equipent location (roofs, elevated structures, etc.). Only trained, qualified installers and service echanics should install, start-up, and service this equipent. Untrained personnel can perfor basic aintenance functions such as cleaning cots. All other operations should be perfored by trained service personnel. When working on the equipent, observe precautions ha the literature and on tags, stickers, and labels attached to the equipent. Follow all safety codes. Wear safety glasses and work gloves. Keep quenching cloth and fire extinguisher nearby when brazing. Use care in handling, rigging, and setting bulky equipent. Read these instructions thoroughly and follow all warnings or cautions included in literature and attached to the unit. Consult local building codes and National Electrical Code (NEC) for special requireents. Recognize safety inforation. This is the safety-alert sybol ]_. When you see this sybol on the unit and in instructions or anuals, be alert to the potential for personal injury.understand these signal words: DANGER, WARNNG, and CAUTON. These words are used with the safety-alert sybol. DANGER identifies the ost serious hazards which will result in severe personal injury or death. WARNNG signifies hazards which could result in personal injury or death. CAUTON is used to identify unsafe practices which ay result in inor personal injury or product and property daage. NOTE is used to highlight suggestions which will result in enhanced installation, reliability, or operation. ELECTRCAL SHOCK HAZARD Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury or death. Before installing, odifying, or servicing syste, ain electrical disconnect switch ust be in the OFF position. There ay be ore than 1 disconnect switch. Lock out and tag switch with a suitable warning label. EXPLOSON HAZARD Failure to follow this warning could result in death, serious personal injury, and/or property daage. Never use air or gases containing oxygen for leak testing or operating refrigerant copressors. Pressurized ixtures of air or gases containing oxygen can lead to an explosion. EQUPMENT DAMAGE HAZARD Failure to follow this caution ay result in equipent daage or iproper operation. Do not bury ore than 36 in. (914 ra) of refrigerant pipe in the ground. f any section of pipe is buried, there ust be a 6 in. (15 ra) vertical rise to the vane connections on the outdoor units. f ore than the recoended length is buried, refrigerant ay igrate to the cooler buried section during extended periods of syste shutdown. This causes refrigerant slugging and could possibly daage the copressor at start-up. SYSTEM REQUREMENTS Allow sufficient space for airflow and servicing unit. Recoended Connection Method for Power and Counlcation Wirin_ iniize counication wirin_interference_ Power Wiring: The ain power is supplied to the outdoor unit. The field supplied connecting cable fro the outdoor unit to indoor unit consists of three (3) wires and provides the power for the indoor unit. Two wires are high voltage AC power and one is a ground wire. Consult your local building codes and the NEC (National Electrical Code) or CEC (Canadian Electrical Code) for special requireents. All wires ust be sized per NEC or CEC and local codes. Use Electrical Data table MCA (iniu circuit aps) and MOCP (axiu over current protection) to correctly size the wires and the disconnect fuse or breakers respectively. Per caution note, only copper conductors with a iniu 300 volt rating and /64-inch thick insulation ust be used. Counication Wiring: A separate shielded copper conductor only, with a iniu 300 volt rating and /64-inch thick insulation, ust be used as the counication wire fro the outdoor unit to the indoor unit. 4 PRECAUTONS Keep this anual where the operator can easily find it. Read this anual thoroughly attentively before starting up the units. For safety reasons the operator ust read the following cautions carefully. nstall at a strong and fir location which is able to withstand the set' s weight. f the strength is not enough or installation is not properly done, the set will drop and ay to cause injury. The appliance ust be installed 8.ft (.5) above floor. nstallation ust be perfored in accordance with the requireent of NEC and CEC by authorized personnel only. The appliance shall not be installed in the laundry. Before obtaining access to terinals, all supply circuits ust be disconnected. The saftey precautions listed here are divided into two categories. The appliance ust be positioned so that the plug is accessible. _, WARNNG The enclosure of the appliance shall be arked by word, or by sybols, with the direction of the fluid flow. A f you do not follow these instructions exactly, the unit ay cause property daage, personal injury or loss of life. CAUTON f you do not follow these instrutions exactly, the unit ay cause inor or oderate property daage and/or, personal injury. After copleting the installation, ake sure that the unit operates properly during the start-up operation. Please instruct the custoer on how to operate the unit and keep it aintained.also, infor custoers that they should store this installation anual along with the owner's anual for future reference. For electrical work, follow the local national wiring standard, regulation and these installation instructions. An independent circuit and single outlet ust be used. f the electrical circuit capacity is not sufficient or there's a defect in electrical work, it will cause electrical shock or fire. Use the specified cable and connect tightly and clap the cable so that no external force will be acted on the terinal. f connection or fixing is not perfect, it will cause a heat build up or fire at the connection. Wiring routing ust be properly arranged so that control board cover is fixed properly. f the control board cover is not fixed perfectly, build up at the connection electrical shock. it will cause a heat point of the terinal, which ay fire or _, WARNNG Be sure only trained and qualified service personnel to install, repair or service the equipent. proper installation, repair, and aintenance ay result in electric shocks, short-circuit, leaks, fire or other daage to the equipent. nstall according to these installation instructions strictly. f the installation is defective, it will cause water leakage, electrical shock and fire. When installing the unit in a sall roo, take easures to keep refrigerant concentration fro exceeding allowable safety liits in the event of refrigerant leakage. Contact the place of purchase for ore inforation. Excessive refrigerant in a closed space can lead to oxygen deficiency. f the supply cord is daaged, it ust be replaced by the anufacturer or its service agent or a siilarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard. An all-pole disconnection switch with a contact separation of at least 0.01ft (3) in all poles should be connected in fixed wiring. When carrying out piping connection, take care not to let air substances go into refrigeration cycle. Otherwise, it will cause lower capacity, abnoral high pressure in the refrigeration cycle, explosion and injury. Do not odify the length of the power supply cord or use of extension cord, and do not share the single outlet with other electrical appliances. Otherwise, it will cause fire or electrical shock. Use the attached accessories parts guides and specified parts guides for installation. failure to coply ay cause the to fall, leak, or chock which ay rad to fire. 4

5 f the refrigerant leaks during installation, ventilate the area iediately. Toxic gas ay be produced if the refrigerant coes into the area contacting with fire. The teperature of refrigerant circuit will be high, please keep the interconnection cable away fro the copper tube. After copleting the installation work, check that the refrigerant does not leak. Toxic gas ay be produced if the refrigerant leaks into the roo and coes into contact with a source of fire, such as a fan heater, stove or cooker. There are inflaable aterials orgaes. There is acid or alkaline liquid evaporating. Other hazardouspecialconditions. The appliance shall be installed in accordance with national wiring regulations. Do not operate your air conditioner in a wet roo such as a bathroo or laundry roo. An all-pole disconnection device which has at least 0.01ft (3) clearances in all poles, has a leakage current that ay exceed 10A, a residual current device (RCD) having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30A, and disconnection ust be incorporated in the fixed wiring in accordance with the wiring rules. _i_ CAUTON Ground the air conditioner. Do not connect the ground wire to gas or water pipes, lightning rod or a telephone ground wire.nappropriate grounding ay result in electric shocks. NSTALLATON NFORMATON Be sure to install an earth leakage breaker. Failure to install an earth leakage breaker ay result in electric shocks. Connect the outdoor unit wires, then connect the indoor unit wires. You are not allowed to connect the air conditioner with the power supply until the wiring and piping is done. While following the instructions in this installation anual, install drain piping in order to ensure proper drainage and insulate piping in order to prevent condensation. proper drain piping ay result in water leakage and property daage. nstall the indoor and outdoor units, power supply wiring and connecting wires should be at least 3.8ft (1) away fro televisions or radios in order to prevent iage interference or noise. Depending on the radio waves, a distance of 3.8ft (1) ay not be sufficient enough to eliinate the noise. To install properly, please read this installation anual first. The air conditioner ust be installed by qualified persons. When installing the indoor unit or its tubing, please follow this anual closely. f the air conditioner is installed on a etal part of the building, it ust be electrically insulated according to the relevant standards to electrical appliances. When all the installation work is finished, please turn on the power only after a thorough check. The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infir persons without supervision. Don't install the air conditioner in the following circustance: There is petrolau nearby. There is salty air nearby (near the coast). There is caustic gas ( sulfide, for exaple) in the air (near a hot spring). The volt vibrates violently (in the factories). n buses or cabinets. n akitchen where it is full of oil gas. NDOOR UNT NSTALLATON 1.1 Selecting installation site When the conditions in the ceiling are exceeding 86 F/30 C and a relative huidity of 80%, or when fresh air is inducted into the ceiling, an additional insulation is required (iniu 0.4in/10 thickness, polyethylene foa). \\ \\\\\ \\\\',,\\\\\ 1) Select an installation site where the following conditions are fulfilled and that eets your custoer's approval. The equipent is not intended for use in a potentially explosive atosphere. Refer to each piping or wiring section. - After aking an opening in the ceiling, it ay be necessary to reinforce ceiling beas to keep the ceiling level and to prevent it fro vibrating. Consult the builder for details. nstall the installation hooks. Adjust the position to ensure the gaps between the indoor unit and the four sides of false ceijing are even. The indoor unit's lower part should sink into the false ceiling for 0.9in/4ra. ////////////////////// ndoor unit False ceiling NOTE: nstallation is possible with a ceiling diension of 3.6in /600 (arked with * ). However, to achieve a ceiling=panel overlapping diension of 0.6in/15, the spacing between the ceiling and the unit should be 0.8in/ 0 or less.f the spacing between ceiling and the unit is over 0.8in/0, attach sealing aterial in the part or recover the ceiling. 8

9 1.3 nstall the indoor unit When installing optional accessories, read the installation anual for the optional accessories. Depending on the field conditions, it ay be easier to install optional accessories before the indoor unit is installed (except for the decoration panel). However, for existing ceiling, install the fresh air inlet coponent kit and branch duct before installing the unit. 1) nstall the indoor unit teporarily. - Attach the hanger bracket to the suspension bolt. Be sure to fix it securely by using a nut and washer fro the upper and lower sides of the hanger bracket. Secure the hanger bracket see figure below. 4) Check if the unit is horizontally _evehed. Do not install the unit tilted. The indoor unit is equipped with a built-in drain pup and float switch. (f the unit is tilted against the direction of the condensate flow (the drain piping side is raised), the float switch ay alfunction and cause water to drip.) Consult the builder for details. The centre of the ceiling opening is indicated on the paper pattern for installation. After reoving the packaging aterial fro the paper patten for installation, attach the paper pattern for installation to the unit with the attached screws as shown in figure below. OUTDOOR UNT NSTALLATON A Precautions for selecting the location / 1) ) ) 9) Choose a place solid enough to bear the weight and vibration of the unit, where the operation noise will not be aplified. Choose a location where the hot air discharged fro the unit or the operation noise will not cause a nuisance to the neighbors of the user. Avoid places near a bedroo and the like, so that the operation noise will not cause a disturbance. There ust be sufficient spaces for carrying the unit into and out of the site. There ust be sufficient space for air passage and no obstructions around the air inlet and the air outlet. The site ust be free fro the possibility of flaable gas leakage in a nearby place. nstall units, power cords and inter-unit wire at least 9.8ft/3 away fro television and radio sets. This is to prevent interference to iages and sounds. (Noises ay be heard even if they are ore than 9.8ft/3 away depending on radio wave conditions.) n coastal areas or other places with salty atosphere of sulfate gas, corrosion ay shorten the life of the air conditioner. Since drain flows out of the outdoor unit, do not place under the unit anything which ust be kept away fro oisture. Never install the outdoor unit at a site where the suction side ay be exposed directly to wind. To prevent exposure to wind, it is recoended to install a baffle plate on the air discharge side of the outdoor unit. n heavy snowfall areas, select an installation site where the snow will not affect the unit. - Constructa large canopy. 11 .3 installation guidelines == Where a wall or other obstacle is in the path of outdoor unit's inlet or outlet airflow, follow the installation guidelines below.! For any of the below installation patterns, the wall height on the outlet side should be 47.in/100 or less. Check the strength and level of the installation ground so that the unit will not cause any operating vibration or noise after installed. Fix the unit securely by eans of the foundation bolts. 12 3 NSTALL THE REFRGERANT PPE,_ All field piping ust be provided by a licensed refrigeration technician and ust coply with the relevant local and national codes. 3.1 Flaring the pipe end 1) Cut the pipe end with a pipe cutter. ) Reove burrs with the cut surface facing downward so that the chips do not enter the pipe. Precautions Execute heat insulation work copletely on both sides of the!tl gas piping and liquid piping. Otherwise, this can soeties result in water leakage. (When using a heat pup, the teperature of the gas piping can reach up to approxiately 10 /48 F. Use insulation which is sufficiently resistant.) Also, in cases where the teperature and huidity of the refrigerant piping sections ight exceed 30 /86 F or Rh80%, reinforce the refrigerant insulation(0/0.8in or thicker). Condensation ay for on the surface of the insulating aterial. Before rigging tubes, check which type of refrigerant is used. Use a pipe cutter and flare suitable for used refrigerant. Only use annealed aterial for flare connections. Do not ix anything other than the specified refrigerant, such as air, etc.., inside the refrigerant circuit. [] f the refrigerant gas leaks during the work, ventilate the area. A toxic gas is eitted by the refrigerant gas being exposed to a fire. [] Make sure there is no refrigerant gas leak. A toxic gas ay be released by the refrigerant gas leaking indoor and being exposed to flaes fro an area heater, cooking stove, etc. [] Refer to the table below for the diensions of flare nuts spaces and the appropriate tightening torque. 13 3.3 Purging air and checking gas leakage [] When piping work is copleted, it is necessary to purge the air and check for gas leakage.,_ WARNNG [] Do not ix any substance other than the specified refrigerant into the refrigeration cycle. [] When refrigerant gas leaks occur, ventilate the roo as soon as possible. [] The specified refrigerant should always be recovered and never be released directly into the environent. (aintain this state for a few inutes to ake sure that the copound pressure gauge pointer does not swing back.)* 5) Reove caps fro liquid stop valve and gas stop valve. 6) Turn the liquid stop valve's rod 90 degrees counterclockwise with a hexagonal wrench to open valve. Close it after 5 seconds, and check for gas leakage. Using soapy water, check for gas leakage fro the indoor unit's flare and outdoor unit's flare and valve rods. After the check is coplete, wipe all soapy water off. 7) Disconnect charging hose fro gas stop valve's service port then fully open liquid and gas stop valves. (Do not attept to turn valve rod byond its stop.) 8) Tighten valve caps and service port caps for the liquid and gas stop valves with a torque wrench at the specified torques. [] Be sure to add the proper aount of additional refrigerant. Failure to do so ay result in reduced perforance. 3.5 Refrigerant piping work 1) Caution on the pipe handling [] Protect the open end of the pipe against dust and oisture. To prevent air bubbles, install the drain hose level or slightly tilted up (_<3in/75 ). The incline of drain hose should be 3 in/75 or less so that the drain socket does not have to withstand additional force. To ensure a downward slope of 1:100, install hanging bars every 3.3ft/1 to 4.9ft / 1.5. When unifying ultiple drain pipes, install the pipes as shown in figure below. Select converging drain pipes whose gauge is suitable for the operating capacity of the unit. Note that the operation will restart autoatically if the ain power supply is turned off and then turned back on again. [] Be sure to ground the air conditioner. Do not connect the ground wire to gas pipes, water pipes, lightning rods, or telephone ground wires. Gas pipes: ight cause explosions or fire if gas leaks. Water pipes: no grounding effect if hard vinyl piping is used. Telephone ground wires or lightning rods: ight cause abnorally highelectric potential in the ground during lightning stors. 16 How to connect wiring! Reove the control box lid of the indoor unit Reove the cover of the outdoor unit. Follow the "Wiring diagra label" attached to the indoor unit's control box lid to wire the outdoor unit, indoor unit and the reote controller Securely fix the wires with a field supplied clap. Do not connect wires of different gauges to the sae power supply terinal. (Looseness in the connection ay cause overheating.) When connecting wires of the sae gauge, connect the according to the figure. Use the specified electric wire. Connect the wire securely to the terinal, Lock the wire down without applying excessive force to the terinal. (Tightening torque: 1.31N. 10%). Cover Bolts When attaching the control box lid, ake sure not to pinch any wires. After all wiring connections are done, fill in any gaps in the casing wiring holes with putty or insulation aterial (field supply) thus to prevent sall anials or dirt fro entering the unit fro outside and causing short circuits in the control box. Do not connect wires of different gauge to the sae grounding terinal. Looseness in the connection ay deteriorate the protection. Use only specified wires and tightly connect wires to the terinals. Be careful that wires do not place external stress on the terinals. Keep wiring in neat order so that they do not obstruct other equipent such as popping open the service cover. Make sure the cover closes tight. ncoplete connections could result in overheating, and in the worst case, electric shock or fire. 16

17 LLZZLLJZL/J_ 6 NSTALLATON OF THE DECORATON PANEL Detach the intake grille. Slide the grille hooks toward the iddle of the decoration panel. - After installing the decoration panel, ensure that there is no space between the unit body and decoration panel. Otherwise air ay leak through the gap and cause dewdrop. (See figure below) ntake grille Grillehook Open the intake grille and reove. Mount the intake grille. Ensure that the buckles at the back of the grille are properly seated in the groove of the panel. nstall the decoration panel - Align the indicate... on the decoration panel to the indicate "on the unit.!! Connect the wires of the decoration panel to the ainboard of the unit. - Attach the decoration panel to the unit with the supplied screws as shown in figure below. 18 ! Close the intake grille, and close the grille hooks. [ 7 TEST OPERATON Make sure the control box lids are closed on the indoor and outdoor units. Refer to "For the following ites, take special care during construction and check after installation is finished" on page. After finishing the construction of refrigerant piping, drain piping, and electric wiring, conduct test operation accordingly to protect the unit. Test operation after installing decoration panel 1 Open the gas side stop valve. Open the liquid side stop valve. 3 Electrify crank case heater for 6 hours. 4 Set to cooling operation with the reote controller and start operation by pushing ON/OFF button. 5 Check the following points. f there is any alfunction, please resolve it according to the chapter "Troubleshooting" in the "Owner's Manual".
