2 What Is Drip Irrigation? A Drip Irrigation system is a watering system designed to apply water directly to individual plants. Why Install a Drip Irrigation System? 5 Section 2 Connecting to an outside garden hose Follow these steps to connect the system to your garden hose. 1. Locate a outside hose faucet close to the desired watering area. 2. Select a garden hose that is long enough to reach your targeted area to be watered. 3. Attach the garden hose to the drip stake and insert the stake next to the area to be watered. 4. Attach one of the manifolds to a drip adapter stake. Section 3 Using for common projects Select the application that best matches your needs. For flower beds and ground cover, see page 5. 6 Flower Beds and Ground Cover Here's how to use the multi-stream drip stake, which sprays a round pattern and adjusts from 1 foot to 6 feet by twisting the cap. 1. Place the Multi-Stream Drip Stake near the center of the area you want watered. 2. Remove the cap from one of the ports on the Manifold and push the ¼-inch Distribution Tubing over the barb teeth so that the tubing is secure. 3. Run the Distribution Tubing from the Manifold to the Multi-Stream Stake and attach the Tubing to the MultiStream Stake. Important: A single ¼-inch drip line should not exceed 30 feet. Use more Tee Connectors if you want to split your Soaker Tubing into more than one water path (and be able to water more than one plant or pot on a line of Tubing.) 5 08DRM ra.indd 6 2/1/08 3:23:39 PM

8 Container Plants, Shrubs, and Small Trees 4 Here's how to use soaker rings. 1. Measure and cut the Punched Tubing as follows: Container plants: Measure the inside edge of the container (at soil level). Subtract 2 inches from your measurement and cut Punched Tubing to that length. Shrubs and small trees: Cut the Punched Tubing into 24- to 30-inch lengths. 2. Take one end of the ¼-inch Punched Tubing and connect it to the right or left side of the Tee and wrap it once around the trunk (or container) and attach it to the opposite side of the Tee. 3. Remove the cap from one of the ports on the Manifold and push the ¼-inch Distribution Tubing over the barb teeth so the Tubing is secure. 7 08DRM ra.indd 8 2/1/08 3:24:06 PM D A S S R

9 es 4. Run the Distribution Tubing from the Manifold to the Soaker Ring and attach the Tubing to remaining barb on the Tee.
