J A N U A R Y E D I T I O N Amazing! You all helped to put together the best house tour ever. If there ever was a moment to say it takes a village, this is it. The houses were each wonderful for their unique architectural style and settings. Then of course beautifully enhanced by teams of designers. St Anthony's Hall was so inviting from the incredible quilt displayed in the entry, followed by the bounty of handmade goods from club members hard work, to the smell of mac and cheese. Thank you all! You have all earned a relaxing holiday. Have a merry holiday season. 2 Announcements Welcome new member Ms. Sandra Doxey of 729 Jerusalem Road in Cohasset, Please add her information to your yearbook. Please note that Joan Shockman's address in the yearbook is incorrect. Her correct address is Please make the change to your yearbook. Craft Workshop Happy New Year, everyone. I hope that after our marathon craft creations for the Yuletide Marketplace you are not all "crafted out. Now we can make something for ourselves. We will have a craft workshop on Tuesday, January 19th, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Lightkeepers. In this session, using a vine ball and coffee filters with some tube inserts to hold the flowers, we will make "snow balls" meant to hold dried, silk, or fresh flowers. There will be a small charge for the materials, but if you bring your glue gun and a sense of humor, we should have a fun and relaxing time. And, you can take it home to enjoy or to brighten someone s day. Please bring your own beverage, and light refreshment will be available. Judy Dickstein Fun was had by all during December's Garden Therapy as we made "Sleigh Bells" arrangements, and enjoyed a lovely solo, a capella performance of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" by one of Harborview's longtime aides. A very festive afternoon! Ann Helbock 2015 Yuletide House Tour

To all the people who contributed so much to the Yuletide Marketplace, a hearty thank you! We started the morning with 5 six-foot tables loaded with our goodies plus several wreaths hanging on the wall and a small wire stand holding some of the ornaments. By the late afternoon, we had sold enough to be able to consolidate down to one six-foot table and a few wreaths hanging about. I would say it was a great success! All your faithful glue gunning, shell sticking, paper white planting and tarting tactics really paid off, not to mention that magnificent quilt, which is a work of art. Realize that the secret to our success rests solely on you - so many, adding so much in so many ways. Well done! Judy Dickstein
YULETIDE What an outstanding achievement! You - we - are all to be congratulated for a masterful job very well done, very well done indeed. So many people have been paying us, the club, huge and effusive compliments for a tour they all said, without exception, was the best ever. They waxed lyrical to describe the houses and the decorations, using words like sophisticated, elegant, beautiful, gorgeous, dazzling. They raved about the marketplace, from the delicious lunch to the classy, well-made crafts. None of this could have been achieved without all the hard work the membership put into this effort. So thank you one and all for everything you did to make Yuletide 2015 a resounding success. We can hear you muttering Yeah, yeah, yeah. All well and good. So just how successful was it? we hear you ask. Well, the Queen is still in her counting house surrounded by cash, cheques, bills and receipts. But we can tell you now, we have beaten all previous records and earned gross revenues well above $30,000. At the end of all accounting, we expect the club to net somewhere in the region of an astounding $25,000. What a load of dosh! It s all thanks to you, the fabulous, the legendary, the sensational kick-ass Community Garden Club of Cohasset. Thank you one and all so very much for everything you have done and continue to do for the house tour, for the outreach to our communities and for our club. It s you who make all this possible. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to us all! Linda Fraker and Julie Hess v
The Garden Club of Nagoya Activity Report of December 2015 Our December general meeting was a routine Holiday Luncheon at an authentic Japanese tea house Kamome built in the traditional Sukiya-zukuri style of residential architecture which was motifed with the tea ceremony. The word sukiya refers to the building in which the tea ceremony is performed, where the smaller and simpler is considered best design. During the mid to late Edo period ( ) this style became popular for residences of townspeople. This is the style that most represents the traditional Japanese interior. It is also this style that has contributed to the compressed living space of Japanese life. The classical example of Sukiya Zukuri is the Katsura Imperial Detached Palace in Kyoto built in the middle of the 16th century. The nestling location of the tea house is right in the center of the area stretching from Nagoya Castle to Tokugawaen which has been dubbed the Cultural Path of Nagoya in recognition of its nature as a treasure trove of historical assets. To enjoy such unique traditional atmosphere, we chose this quaint tea house for our gathering in the end of the year Takako Kohri Recording Secretary CGCC 221 Massachusetts Avenue #1018 Boston, MA 02115
