1 Teak Self-Watering Square Planter Strength, durability and natural weather resistance have made teak the wood of choice for generations of builders and craftsmen. Our friends at Reforest Teak make these planters to our specifications from durable, sustainably harvested teak. High-quality construction details include tongue-and-groove joinery and dovetailed corners that make assembly easy and fast. Inside we ve added a self-watering system to keep plants healthy and watering chores to a minimum. Planter Assembly Tools Needed: Phillips screwdriver Parts List: Side Panels (4); Top Sill (1) Water Reservoir Basin and Platform (1); Wicking Strip (1); Screws (4); Water Level Indicator (1). NOTE: This planter is not for use with caster inserts. Step 1. Place all planter parts on a clean, level surface. Note: each Side Panel has a 2-inch-long block which acts as a brace for the water reservoir. During assembly, when connecting the panels, be sure this block (Figure 1) is positioned near the ground and facing inside the planter. Join the four Side Panels by sliding together the tongue and groove along the edge of each Panel. Attach the basin to the square blocks using a Phillips screwdriver and the screws provided.

2 Step 2. Remove the upper platform from the Water Reservoir. Remove the Water Level Indicator and set aside. Place the lower basin into the bottom of the planter, resting it on the square blocks of each Side Panel. Step 3. Attach the basin to the square blocks using a Phillips screwdriver and the screws provided. You may need to push and flex the basin sides to align the screw holes with the predrilled holes in the wood blocks (Figure 2). Step 4. Make sure the wicking fabric is properly weaved into the Reservoir Platform grid (Figure 3). Replace the Reservoir Platform on top of the basin and press it firmly into place. (The ends of the wicking fabric must reach down into the reservoir.) Step 5. Assemble the Water Level indicator using the instructions included with the Indicator. Then, place the Indicator in the slot in the Reservoir Platform (Figure 3). Do not remove the Indicator after filling the planter with soil. Soil could become trapped inside the Indicator and prevent it from working. Step 6. Place the Top Sill on top of the planter and tap each corner into place (Figure 3). The planter assembly is now finished. Step 7. Planting Mix This planter holds 50 quarts of planting mix. If using our Self- Watering Container Mix you will need 2.5 bags to fill the planter (20 quarts per bag). Figure 2 Figure 3 Connect the Basin with screws. Water Level Indicator Reservoir Platform Reservoir Basin Wicking Fabric Top Sill In a separate container, moisten the planting mix until it s fluffy and moist but not soggy. Pour a few inches of pre-moistened soil into the planter and press it firmly into the surface of the Reservoir Platform. This step is very important. The moistened mix will wick water from the reservoir to ensure your plants do not dry out. Continue to fill the planter with planting mix to within 1 to 2 inches

3 of the top edge. Be careful not to obstruct the view of the MAX line on the Water Level Indicator when filling the planter. Step 8. Fertilizer Add fertilizer, following the application rates indicated on the fertilizer packaging (See Ordering Information for our All-Purpose Fertilizer). Thoroughly mix the fertilizer into the premoistened soil. Step 9. Planting Plant your flowers or vegetables. The Teak Square Planter can hold one large plant or a number of smaller plants. Avoid over-crowding plants as this may reduce overall plant growth. Step 10. Watering Water the planting mix to establish good root-to-mix contact, then fill the reservoir with water through the Fill Tube portion of the Water Level Indicator. NOTE: If you live in a hot, dry climate or experience extended periods of dry weather, make sure to check the water level on a regular basis (possibly daily) to keep it filled. If the planting mix dries out, refill the reservoir and water the mix thoroughly from above to re-establish the wicking action. About Drainage: This planter has built-in overflow drainage. Once the maximum water reservoir capacity has been reached (1-3/4 gallons), any excess water will drain out. This will keep plants healthy and prevent them from becoming over-watered, especially after a heavy rain. If you are using the planter indoors, be careful not to over-water. Caring for Teak Your teak will naturally color with time to a distinctive silvery gray. If you prefer to maintain the golden hue of your piece, simply apply an environmentally friendly brand of wood sealer when your teak is new or at the end of the gardening season. Otherwise, nothing is necessary to maintain or extend the life of your teak, although you may choose to clean it periodically. Use a mild cleaner (try one part Simple Green to two parts water) and wash with medium bristle brush. For grease spots, a gentle scrubbing brush, Simple Green, and a good rinse will do wonders. 5 Water Level Indicator IMPORTANT! Retrieve the Water Level Indicator parts from under the Reservoir Platform and connect the parts BEFORE adding soil to the planter. Instructions Step 1. Insert the round tip of the Twopart Indicator through the bottom of the clear Fill Tube. Step 2. Place the Ball Float inside the Base Cup and push the Base Cup onto the Lower Tube. Step 3. Slide the Two-part Indicator inside the Lower Tube and push the clear Fill Tube onto the Lower Tube. The Water Level Indicator is now ready to use.
