3 Why Pollinators? Pollinators are critical to our food and ecosystems. Over 150 crops in the United States need pollination to make seeds and fruits, and it's estimated that pollinators including bees, flies, moths, butterflies and beetles are responsible for about every third bite of food we eat. This makes pollinators a critical part of the intricate web that supports biological diversity and functioning ecosystems. The number of native pollinators is declining. They are threatened by habitat loss, disease and pesticides. For pollinators to thrive, they need contiguous habitat with native plant food sources and places to nest and overwinter. They also need access to water and a commitment to less chemicals. Our landscapes often fall short in these areas. We can help pollinator populations recover by creating habitat in our community landscapes. 5 Garden Quiz Your Garden Quiz helps us get a sense of where your garden is and where you'd like it to be. What's your gardening style? I garden daily/weekly.
