The programme, supported by local businesses, Michelin, Boots, Fujitsu, Dundee Rep Theatre, Robertsons Tayside and D.C. Thomson, have provided those young people, some from the more challenging economic areas within Dundee, with an introduction to some of the essential skills and attributes employers require and value. 2 27 April 2017 Paisley Food for Thought Healthy Breakfast Challenge with Hamlyn s of Scotland, Morrisons and Jamie s Italian 28 April 2017 Edinburgh: Enterprise Team Challenge, Castleview Primary School, Edinburgh, This team-based skilled volunteering challenge will run throughout the morning and is an excellent opportunity to try out this proven and successful model. In the afternoon, there will be a follow-up session Improving volunteer support for Primary Stage curriculum. This session will consider what we are doing already to support early stage understanding of the workplace, skills for life, and the delivery of core curriculum outcomes; considering the barriers to doing more and how to overcome them. Our aim is to bring together a number of companies across the region and partner them with Schools and Academies (Primary and Secondary) to celebrate Give & Gain through a 'Readathon'. Nottingham: Venue TBC We will be using our Community Conversation on 27 April to present the need and the impact of reading with a young person and using inspiring speakers from the Education and Literacy worlds to engage and excite. We will then mobilise our companies and encourage teams of business volunteers to participate in an exciting programme of city-wide reading activity specific to the need of the individual school. The centre generates little income and is reliant on money from a trust. The centre manager would like strategic support to make the centre sustainable. The barrier that they have is that the current volunteers lack the confidence to organise and plan fundraising events. The centre would like employee volunteers to offer the centre s volunteers some guidance on organising an event. The volunteers are either carers or excarers and would also benefit from some IT training. The centre has a few Android tablet pc s and would like to be in a position where they can Skype carers in their own homes when they are unable to make it to the centre. Caerleon, Newport This Care home is a residence for up to 34 adults with physical disabilities. Volunteers could deliver sessions/events which could include sports themes, games activities, quizzes, horse racing videos gambling (not money) etc. It is also the 100th anniversary of the birth of the founder of Leonard Cheshire and a vintage tea party would also be welcome. Bridgend, Wales With nearly a third of year olds and over a fifth of 4-5 year olds in the UK overweight or obese food education has never been more important. This primary school would like a volunteer team to deliver a healthy eating workshop activities where children can learn about food through fun games, activities and quizzes to help pupils become food smart. The overall goal is getting kids excited about food and introducing them to new foods and healthy eating habits. Business volunteers will be provided with some ideas and suggestions to help plan activities. A meeting with the school will also be facilitated to help volunteer team leaders learn what the pupils have done in the past and how to pitch the workshop.
