Sure-Vent and Sure-Vent II, Air Admittance Valve (AAV) is intended for use as an alternative measure to a vent pipe that extends to the open air. These valves open under a negative pressure within the drainage system allowing air to enter the venting system to maintain trap seals. The valves close by gravity under no pressure differential (no flow) or under positive pressure to prevent the leakage of sewer gases through the valve. The Oatey AAV Sure-Vent comes in two models: Model and Model The Oatey AAV Sure-Vent II comes in five models: Model 39015, Model 39016, 39017, Model 39018, and Model Authorization Requested The applicant sought authorization for the use of their product as an alternative to extending a vent pipe to open air as presently required by the OBC. 5. Assessment Reports and assessments provided by the applicant show that if the Oatey Sure- Vent and Sure-Vent II are designed, performance tested and maintained in accordance with the limitations the manufacturer's instructions and conditions stated in this authorization, the level of the performance required by the OBC for individual venting, duel venting, wet venting or circuit venting for fixtures located on the same floor level will be provided.

NSF International, project number Authorization The use of Oatey Sure-Vent, size 2" (50 mm), and Sure-Vent II, sizes 1 ½" (38 mm) and 2" (50 mm), are authorized for use within a plumbing system as an alternative where there is no other means of connecting to the traditional venting system and where there is no danger of back pressure presenting a problem. A. SPECIFIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS: 1. Vent system utilizing Oatey AAV shall conform to performance standards for "Fixture and Branch Air Admittance Valves" ANSI/ASSE (rev. 1996). 2. The PVC material used in the Oatey AAV shall conform to ASTM D The ABS material used in the Oatey AAV shall conform to ASTM D The Oatey AAV shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. In case of a conflict between the manufacturer's installation instructions and the OBC requirements, the provisions of the Code shall govern. 5. The manufacturer shall supply instructions on the proper and safe installation of the Oatey AAV. Such instructions shall include a reference requiring that the installation be made in accordance with the Specific Terms and Conditions listed in this BMEC Authorization. Such instructions shall include detail drawings and must remain on site. 6. The Oatey AAV shall be installed after the drain waste and vents (DWV) Page 3 of 6
4 have been tested as required by OBC Articles and/or and prior to the final test as required in Article so as to establish that an adequate seal under positive pressure is achieved. 7. Individual, dual, wet and circuit vents shall be permitted to terminate with a connection to a Oatey AAV. When more than three fixtures connect to the horizontal branch a relief vent is required. 8. The Oatey AAV shall not be used on a vent stack or stack vent. 9. The Oatey AAV shall only vent fixtures that are located on the same floor level and connect to a horizontal branch line. 10. The horizontal branch drain shall connect to the building drain or the stack not more than 4 storeys (as defined in Part 7 of the OBC) from the top of the stack. 11. The horizontal branch that is circuit vented shall be provided with a relief vent that shall connect to a vent stack, stack vent, header or extend outdoors to open air. 12. The Oatey AAV's shall not be used as relief vents. 13. The relief vent shall connect to the horizontal branch drain between the stack or building drain and the most downstream fixture drain connected to the horizontal branch drain. The relief vent shall be sized in accordance with Article of the OBC. The relief vent may be a wet vent if it is 2" (50 mm) size or greater and not more than one fixture having a maximum of 1½ fixture units is drained into it. 14. The Oatey AAV shall be located 6" (150 mm) above the flood level rim of the fixture being vented where possible, and in case of a single fixture, as high as possible but not less than 4" (100 mm) above the weir of the fixture trap. 15. The Oatey AAV shall be located within the maximum developed length permitted as per Article of the OBC. 16. The Oatey AAV shall be located in an area that is accessible for inspection, service, repair and/or replacement. For the purpose of this authorization, concealment in walls and/or floor spaces without removable grills or access panels is not considered accessible. 17. The Oatey AAV shall not be located in an attic space. 18. The Oatey AAV shall be located within a ventilated space that allows air to Page 4 of 6
5 enter the valve. 19. The Oatey AAV shall be rated for the size of the vent to which the valve is connected. 20. Each plumbing system shall have a minimum of one 3" (75 mm) stack which shall be extended outdoors to the open air as per Sentence (2) of the OBC. 21. The Oatey AAV shall not be used for corrosive or acid waste systems, grease and oil interceptors installations or any other special waste systems. 22. The Oatey AAV shall not be used for any closed system such as a sewage ejector, or a manhole located inside the building. 23. The Oatey AAV shall not be located in spaces utilized as supply or return air plenums. 24. When the Oatey AAV is located in an area where freezing conditions may occur protection of the Oatey AAV shall be done in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. 25. The Oatey AAV must be installed as close to true vertical as possible, but not more than 15 o off the true vertical. 8. General Conditions 1. The use of the Sure-Vent and Sure-Vent II must comply with the Building Code Act, 1992 as amended or re-enacted from time to time and except as specifically authorized herein, with the OBC as amended or remade from time to time. 2. A copy of this Authorization shall accompany each application for a building permit and shall be maintained on the site of the construction with the building permit. 3. The Applicant named in Part 1 hereof shall promptly notify the BMEC of: the failure of the applicant, or of the material, system or building design that is the subject matter of this Authorization, to comply with any of the terms and conditions set out in 6. A. above; or the occurrence of any of the events described in Conditions 6. B. 4. and (ii) below. 4. The BMEC may amend or revoke this Authorization where it determines Page 5 of 6
6 that: any change has been made to: (i) (ii) (iii) the material, system or building design that is the subject matter of this Authorization; the address of the applicant specified in Part 1 of this Authorization; or, the ownership of the applicant specified in Part 1 of this Authorization. the use of the material, system or building design authorized herein; (i) (ii) does not comply with the Building Code Act, 1992 or any relevant legislation as they may be amended or re-enacted from time to time; or provides an unsatisfactory level of performance, in situ. (c) (d) the Applicant, or the material, system or building design that is the subject matter of this Authorization, has failed to comply with any of the terms and conditions set out in this Authorization; or any Ontario Building Code provision relevant to this Authorization has been amended or remade.
