INTRODUCTION These safety instructions refer to installation,operation and maintenance of enclosures of electric motors LEX 80, 90,100, 112, 132,160,180,200,225,250,280,315 and 355 series intended to be used in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres ( with presence of inflammable gas or dust). The enclosures included in these instructions have the following protections against the risk of explosion : - G = gas of category 3 suitable for Zone 2 The electric motors of this instruction are suitable for : Group / Category II 3G Execution Ex na II T3 - D = dust of category 2 suitable for Zone 21 and (redundant) for Zone 22 The electric motors of this instruction are suitable for : Group / Category II 2D Execution Ex td A21 IP65 T 135 C 2. INSTALLATION 2.1 Suitability of the motor to the place of installation Employing a motor in areas subject to an explosion hazard it s necessary to verify the suitability of the enclosure of the motor to the classification area and the characteristics of the flammable substances present in the ambient. European directives 94/9/CE dated 23 March 1994 ( concerning equipments) and 1999/92/CE dated 16 December 1999 ( concerning the plants) establish the essential safety requirements against the risk of explosion in classified areas. European standard EN declares the classification criteria for area subject to the risk of explosion. European standard EN declares the protection criteria for area subject to the risk of explosion with presence of inflammable gas European standards EN and EN declares the protection criteria for area subject to the risk of explosion with presence of inflammable and conductor dust European standard EN declares the technical requirements for electrical plants located in classified areas. In consequence of these technical and legislative provisions it s necessary to take the following decisive factors into consideration : - type of plant : group I ( mines ), group II ( surface plants ) - Zone classification : 0, 1, 2 e 20, 21, 22 ( which are in conformity with equipments of category 1, 2, 3 ) - Characteristics of flammable substances present in the form of gases,vapours,fog and combustible dusts group : IIA, IIB and IIC - Temperature classes : T1, T2, T3, T4 (they identify the ignition temperature of gases and dusts ) In addition to operating data, the information provided on the nameplate includes: - information necessary for the correct installation and operation - references to the notified bodies responsible for certification

4 Pag. 4/6 2.2 Utilization limits Enclosures of motors from LEX 80 to LEX 355 series can be used in ambient temperature range from -20 C to + 40 C. The mechanical protection (standard EN 60529) is : - IP 65 for enclosure type 3G and 2D - IP 20 for fancover The foreseen mountings are in conformity with EN standard. 2.3 Nameplate safety data On the nameplate there ll be the following basic data : II 3G = enclosures for surface plants with presence of gas, vapours, fog of category 3, suitable for zone 2. Ex na = enclosures suitable for flammable gases. IP 65 = grade of protection for enclosures T3 = class that identify the ignition temperature of gases II 2D = enclosures for surface plants with presence of inflammable and conductor dusts of category 2, suitable for zone 21 and (redundant) for zone 22 Ex td A21 = enclosure suitable for flammable dust. IP 65 = grade of protection for enclosures T135 C = max. surface temperature of enclosures related to dusts = mark of conformity for directive 94/9/CE and relevant technical standards IMPORTANT I ) All screws used to seal the motor must be 8.8 minimum quality in according to UNI EN II ) To assure the mechanical protection IP 65, after every disassembly the silicone grease must be renewed on the joints.

5 Pag. 5/6 2.4 Main connections Connections to the mains must be executed by a terminal board located inside the terminal box, which is an integral part of the enclosure of the motor. The terminal box has a threaded metric hole ( main entry) on which it must be fitted a cable gland or a locking joint certified according to protection degree IP 65 Atex. Terminals must have the mark of conformity EN Seal rings on the shaft and silicone grease ( Rhone Poulenc or similar ) on the motors with protection degree IP 65 contribute to guarantee the protection degree. Cable glands will be coupled to the threaded entries of the connection box with sealer for threaded parts type Loctite 270 or similar. 2.5 Earthing connection Enclosures of LEX motors are equipped with an external earthing terminal located on the housing. This terminal must be connected to the plant general earthing system by a line conductor with a cross section of 4 mm². The earthing connection provided inside the terminal box allows the connection with the cable having the same cross-section of the line terminals. 3. INSPECTIONS AND MAINTENANCES All the inspections and maintenances of LEX motors must be executed in compliance with EN standard. It s particularly necessary to pay attention to the following : - All screws used must be fully tightned - Replacement of some parts subject to wear ( for example seals on the shaft, bearings, terminal box ) has to be executed using components identical to the ones supplied by the manufacturer in order to assure the maintenance of safety and degree of protection. - The surfaces of joints ( terminal board cover/terminal board; joints for the shaft) HAVE NOT TO BE MACHINED. These surfaces must be kept clean and, against corrosion and to prevent the water from entering, with a thin layer of silicone-based grease ( see point 2.3 par. II ). 3.1 Motors suitable for inverter The motors used with inverter must be equipped with thermistors to control the temperature. These thermistors must ensure to cut off the power supply; the rest of this cut-out must not be performed automatically. The performances allowed with this kind of service are shown on an extra nameplate. The user must address directly to the manufacturer if this information is not available.

6 Pag. 6/6 3.2 Motors without ventilation or with forced ventilation The main motors must be equipped with temperature control through sensors. The intervention of the thermal protection must assure the release of the power supply; the re-establishment of the power must not be automatic. The services allowed with this type of service are indicated on an extra nameplate. If these instructions are not available the end user must address to the manufacturer. The motor with extra forced ventilation must be equipped with a device which releases the working of the main motor without the ventilation ( or ventilation of auxiliary motor). The main motor can t work if the auxiliary motor is not into operation. 4. REPAIRS OF LEX MOTORS The repairs of the LEX motors must be executed according to the specified criteria in the IEC standard and have to be carried out only by the manufacturer or by the authorized workshops ( authorized by the manufacturer himself). The repair of the LEX motor shall be done respecting all the ATEX protection. If after the repair, the motors doesn t comply to the necessary requirements, the nameplate will be removed and this motor will no more be considered ATEX.
