The most commonly used technology is Passive Infra-Red (PIR). PIR devices detect movement by sensing the change in heat emitted within a space and reactively switch on and off the lights as and when they are needed. This helps to minimise energy consumption. So the results are lower fuel bills and reduced carbon emissions, which all contribute towards the UK s drive towards a lower carbon demanding society. 3 Let s talk about technology Where would I use lighting control? Lighting control offers an energy saving solution for a range of applications, both inside and outside, including: Foyers, corridors and staircases Staff areas and toilets Offices and conference rooms Residential buildings Hotel rooms Typical saving in a small office 4.8 MWh per year = 480 How do PIR devices work? PIR devices utilise infra-red technology to detect a presence by measuring the heat difference between people and the room or area being monitored. A segmented lens is used, which divides the area into easy to monitor zones, making PIRs ideal to detect motion in small enclosed spaces with high levels of movement. Moving to a new generation. By combining state of the art infra-red and ultrasonic technologies, we have created highly responsive occupancy sensors which offer the best solution for reliability and efficiency, whilst remaining cost effective. Dual technology provides the added benefit of emitting microwave signals from the device which can detect the heat transmitted from the body, even around objects. This technology works perfectly in areas such as toilets and storerooms, as these spaces are likely to feature obstacles.

4 Indoor solutions Ceiling mounted Our range of ceiling devices can be discreetly mounted and incorporate a detection range of up to 360º, utilising a less obtrusive design approach and ensuring nothing is missed from view. These devices are available in either a single or dual load operation for the switching of separate loads, for example: lighting and ventilation. For installations where a ceiling cut-out might be difficult, some of the ceiling devices include a surface mounting pattress, to make wiring easier and quicker. SAEUEMSCDBWE SAEUEMSCDAWE Dual-load 360 o PIR sensor A ceiling, flush-device detector, suitable for indoor applications in small scale office and home applications, such as conference rooms, garages, kitchens and dining rooms. Both lighting and, potentially, HVAC equipment can be controlled through this PIR. Its features include: Easy installation in different thicknesses of ceiling boards. Detection beams are distributed evenly via the segmented lens, so even the smallest movement can be detected. RJ-12 plug and socket offers a quick and easy connection. Built-in red LED is used as an indicator for IR setting and easy test operation. Single-load 360 o PIR sensor Suitable for flush or surface mounting, this device is ideal for use in offices, conference facilities and hotel rooms. The time and lux value can be adjusted to match the end-users requirements for lighting control. What does it offer? A high performance relay for connecting all types of lights, such as fluorescent, halogen and incandescent lamps. Choice of mounting methods flush mount with spring clip or European standard junction box, as well as surface mount with junction box. Wall mounted Infrascan single-load 120 o PIR sensors With power applied and a suitable load connected, the Infrascan will be able to detect any moving infra-red source (for example a person) which may intrude upon its field of view. The unit has two adjustments on the underside of the sensor head for light level and time-on duration. This adjustment can be set to allow the Infrascan to operate the load at any light level between full daylight and almost complete darkness. The load will automatically be switched off after the time-on period has elapsed. Any period between 5 seconds and approximately 20 minutes may be set by the time adjustment screw. E751 offers 2 wire connection and 2A operation. E751R offers 3 wire connection and 10A operation. Ultimate screwless 90 o PIR plate switch The PIR plate switches have been designed to complement the Ultimate screwless range of wiring accessories. This device is ideal for use in areas where appearance matters. Time adjustment of between 15 seconds and 30 minutes. Aesthetic flat plate range design without unsightly fixings screws. Single-load 360 o PIR & ultrasonic sensor SAEUEMSCDUWE Integrating PIR and ultrasonic technology, this device is a sophisticated motion detector, offering a highly effective solution for a wide variety of applications. These sensors detect occupancy by monitoring frequency shifts caused by minor movements such as typing or reading, but with the added benefit of preventing false triggering. Ideal for use in public conveniences, underground car parks, open plan offices and classrooms.
