3 Building Evacuation Procedures

4 Activating an Alarm Smoke or fire is discovered Dial 911 immediately Call Property Management Activate the nearest manual fire-alarm pull station Manual pull stations are located on each floor near each Stairwell exit, adjacent to the stairwell door Evacuate according to the Emergency Action Plan

5 Alarms Isolated incident - the horns & strobes will be activated on the floor of the incident, as well as the floors above & below. If the horns & strobes are activated on your floor, evacuate If you hear the alarm, but it is not on your floor, remain in the building in a state of awareness.

6 Alarms There is no such thing as a FALSE alarm. An alarm is sounding for one of the following reasons: A Drill: intentionally activated for training purposes An Incidental (or Nuisance) Alarm: Potentially dangerous incident has occurred Real Emergency Unless an announcement is made stating otherwise, take action as if a true emergency

7 Evacuation Procedures: Exiting the Building Evacuate the building immediately Do NOT Use Elevators Elevators need to be held at ground floor for Fire Department usage. Elevator shafts are like chimneys & collect smoke & gases. If an elevator were to stop & open on the fire floor anyone inside would be exposed to the heat & smoke. In stairwells keep single file & to the right side Emergency responders ascend the left side Evacuate in steady & calm manner Assemble at the muster area

8 Muster Area Outside safety area no less than 300 feet from the building JL Tower Muster Area is along 40 th Ave to the South of the building

9 Evacuation Procedures: Muster Area Assemble with your floor in the designated location Be attentive for Tenant role call Inform Floor Warden of missing persons & their last known location Account for any visitors Do NOT Leave this area until departure has been authorized

10 Evacuation Procedures: Re-Entry into the Building Property Manager receives information from Fire Command Center building is safe to occupy Property Manager will clear groups of tenants for re-entry by floor Safe & efficient re-entry achieved with staggered release of tenants. Wait until your floor is called to re-enter the building

13 Evacuation Brigade: Property Management Chief Building Engineer: Bill Elliott Oversee Fire Command Center until arrival of Fire Department Communicate directly with Fire Department Provide building information & keys Is prepared to direct fire fighters to the fire location Responsible for implementation of your Emergency Action Plan (EAP) Oversee any evacuations, assigning other safety personnel responsibilities, trains JL employees in emergency response

14 Evacuation Brigade: Property Management Property Manager: Sabrina Swanson Ensure the Fire Department has been notified of emergency Confirm all elevators are called to ground floor Ensure emergency procedures are followed as outlined in EAP Communicate directly with Safety Coordinators & gives directions Develop the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) Organize & train Chief Engineer, Safety Coordinators & Floor Wardens Conduct emergency evacuation drill annually Maintain records per MOA code Maintain updated Tenant information

15 Evacuation Brigade: Tenant Appointed Safety Coordinator: 1 per Tenant Report to Property Management in muster area: Floors cleared Missing persons & last known location Persons holding for Fire Department evacuation & last known location Implement your Emergency Action Plan (EAP) Oversee evacuations, assign safety personnel, train employees, practice procedures Keep all information updated with Property Manager

16 Evacuation Brigade: Tenant Appointed Floor Warden: 1 per Tenant, per Floor Direct, enforce & have full charge of the evacuation of their floor Receive information from Search Monitors & Exit Monitors, & report to Safety Coordinator in the muster area. Keep all safety equipment & walkways in a state of readiness Help Safety Coordinator train employees regularly regarding EAP Thoroughly brief all new employees on EAP

17 Evacuation Brigade: Tenant Appointed Search Monitor: 1 per Tenant, per Floor Ensure evacuation of personnel from remote areas within the suite Storerooms File rooms Server rooms Restrooms Direct personnel to stairwells Report to Stairwell Monitors & Floor Warden

18 Evacuation Brigade: Tenant Appointed Stairwell Monitors: 1 per exit, per Floor Keep the exit doors clear of all obstructions during the evacuation Direct traffic to the stairwell exit Instruct everyone to keep single file & to the right in stairwells Keep traffic moving steadily & calmly to avoid panic Discourage elevator use The last people to leave the floor & close the exit door Report status to your Floor Warden

19 Evacuation Brigade: Tenant Appointed Special Assistant: 1 per employee requiring special assistance During mainstream evacuation wait with their assigned person near stairwell farthest away from emergency After mainstream evacuation, & if conditions pose a serious threat, may enter stairwell with assigned person to evacuate The Evacuation Brigade may assist in evacuating the persons with disabilities if danger is imminent and the fire department has not yet arrived Employee Requiring Special Assistant Must keep their information current with their Floor Warden & Property Management
