Major corporation turns to Tyco for multi-site security management An international company based in Germany with approximately 20,000 employees worldwide was looking to replace the heterogeneous access control system that was currently in place at the company headquarters as well as a number of other administrative and production locations. In its search for a solution provider, the company opted for Tyco. Tyco installed an access control system that unified and simplified the use of access cards. With the new system, employees working at the different locations now only require one card, which can be used at every location. All employees were issued with their own card, which were individually programmed with the applicable access permissions according to their particular role and department. Access to the data centre is, for example, restricted to specific persons, and this also applied across all locations. Certain floors at the company headquarters have restricted access, which is similarly managed by the individually programmed cards. Data from all the locations is transferred to a single IT system for analysis purposes. In addition, Tyco updated the video surveillance system at some of the locations in order to improve security, prevent unauthorised access and control sensitive areas within the building. This data is also transferred to the central computer, from where it is analysed directly with the aid of our video analytics technology. This makes work easier for security personnel as only relevant information is filtered onto the surveillance screens. Access control and global IT for Shell Shell has 65,000 property assets worldwide, ranging from office buildings to refineries and petrol and gas stations. The risks associated with these assets vary greatly. Like many other companies, Shell not only wanted to secure its real estate, it also needed to ensure that any technology invested in is optimally aligned, including the use of access control systems for facility management. With the sheer number of locations worldwide, the harmonisation of technologies and processes was a major challenge. With Tyco s global support for this project, Shell opted for the C CURE 9000 solution, which would also facilitate the harmonisation of their access control system. Using the existing IT infrastructure, Tyco converted the system, channelling the data to a central server in one region.
