BIOLOGICAL SAFETY TRAINING N. BLOOD BORNE PATHOGEN PROGRAM O. RESPIRATOR PROGRAM SITE DRAWING WITH PRIMARY EXITS INDICATED BASF Agricultural Solutions: The Seven Elements of Safety A successful safety and loss prevention program is aimed at preventing accidents and incidents that cause personal injury, loss of assets or business interruption. It is both a moral obligation and a sound business practice to operate safely. Accidents cause both human suffering and financial loss, neither of which is acceptable to a well-managed company. A safe and efficient operation is the only acceptable standard. Safety and loss prevention are important indicators of managerial performance. There is no conflict between operating safely and operating efficiently. It is the responsibility of management to prevent accidents by: providing a safe working environment and proper equipment to perform each job; training and motivating supervisors to instruct their people thoroughly in all aspects of their jobs, including safety; training and motivating each employee to work safely; and, by requiring safe operation as a part of each employee's job, making this a condition of employment. The ultimate responsibility for accident prevention rests with each individual employee. All employees are obligated to cooperate fully in the safety program so as to prevent injury to themselves and their fellow employees, and financial loss to the company. The following elements establish the basic framework of BASF Corporation's Safety and Loss Prevention Program: 1. Management Commitment Safety is considered an integral part of every job, and thus all management must demonstrate commitment to the safety and loss prevention program by visible involvement regularly. 2. Assignment Of Responsibility Employees at every level are responsible and accountable for their own accident prevention activities. 3. Maintenance of safe working conditions Each location shall establish programs for the proper monitoring and control of safety and health hazards to produce a safe working environment for the safety and well-being of its employees and the public. Version of 13

4. Training Each location shall have an ongoing development and training program for all employees to assure that all have been trained to operate safely and efficiently. This includes new employee orientation, job skills and supervisory safety training. All training must be documented. 5. Accident Reporting Each location shall record injuries/illnesses in accordance with state and federal record keeping requirements. All accidents/incidents as well as first aid cases, near misses, unsafe acts or unsafe conditions shall be reported and thoroughly investigated. 6. Emergency Procedures and Programs Each facility must have a written emergency plan designed to prevent employee injury, minimize damage to company assets and provide for the safety of the public. 7. Acceptance of Personal Accountability Employees are responsible for contributing towards the success of the safety and loss prevention program. Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Observing all safety rules and following all practices and procedures. Using all designated personal protective equipment. Notifying supervision when certain conditions or practices may cause injury, illness or property loss. Reporting accidents or incidents immediately. Developing good habits of personal hygiene and housekeeping. BASF Agricultural Solutions: Site Specific Procedures 1. General Safety Information a. Visitors: Children Children are allowed in the facility if an employee of BASF escorts them. There are certain hazardous areas that are restricted to children under the age of 16. Children are not permitted in these hazardous areas unless they are part of an organized tour: o Laboratories o Computer Room o Greenhouses o Loading Dock o Boiler Room o Batch Formulation Room b. Personal Equipment Please do not bring equipment from home to place in your office or lab area. Personal coffeepots, toaster ovens, tea makers, heaters etc. are not allowed in the facility due to the additional hazards they add to the facility. CD/ Radio Headphones are not to be worn in the laboratory. Version of 13

c. Sign In Procedures If you use the site s recreational facilities over the weekend (walking trail, fishing), you must sign in at the front desk, indicating any visitors that may be accompanying you. Please remember that you are responsible for the safety of your guests. 2. Evacuation at Agricultural Solutions a. Building Evacuation Whenever the fire alarm sounds, all personnel must evacuate the building to the designated assembly areas located outside the building. Drawings showing primary evacuation exits and assembly areas are provided in Section 14. In general, you should evacuate out the nearest exit and join your department in their designated evacuation area. Do not use the elevator. Facility Section A Wing B" and "C" wing "D" wing Ground and First Floor D wing Second Floor "E" wing Paramount Parkway Meridian Parkway Assembly Area Flagpole in front of the pond Rear employee parking lot adjacent to those wings Front of the building (pond side) near the striped barbershop style pole. Behind greenhouses; move outside fenced area upon notification by Emergency Coordinator Employee parking lot adjacent to the "E" wing Evacuate to parking lot, move a safe distance away from the building. (~100 feet) Evacuate to parking lot, move a safe distance away from the building. (~100 feet) b. Area Evacuation In some cases such as a chemical spill or tornado warning, relocation (instead of evacuation), may be required (See section 1.d to 1.f). c. After Hours Evacuation Procedures for evacuation after hours are similar to normal procedures. 3. Evacuation at the Field Test Site (FTS) All employees should sign in and out so the FTS Supervisor knows who is on site. Evacuate out of the buildings through the nearest exit. In the event of a tornado, lie in a ditch or move to internal, structurally sound portions of the building structures. If the siren for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant sounds for more than three minutes, then follow the evacuation plans found in Section 12 and posted on the bulletin board at the FTS. 4. Evacuation Notification and Communications After evacuation, notification is your most important response. Two telephone numbers are available for emergency notification, an internal number "2222" (Davis Drive only) and an external number "9-911". Version of 13

"2222" rings at the emergency control switchboard. "9-911" is the same number you would use at home to reach the police, an ambulance or the fire department. 911 is the primary form of emergency communications at the Paramount Parkway, Meridian Parkway and the Field Test Site. 5. HAZMAT Team The HAZMAT team (Hazardous Materials Response Team) has been formed to control hazardous materials incidents. The HAZMAT team will respond to any unplanned release. The HAZMAT team will be notified via the "2222" number. The HAZMAT team does not respond to Paramount Parkway, Meridian Parkway, or the Field Test Site. Call First Aid Team The first aid team will be notified via the 2222 number. The team is trained in first aid as well as CPR and use of the AEDs. The first aid team does not respond to Paramount Parkway, Meridian Parkway, or the Field Test Site. Call Working After-Hours or on Weekends If you need to work before 6 AM or after 6 PM or on the weekend, you must sign in and out at the front desk. In case of an emergency, the guard can be reached via the internal emergency number ("2222 ). a. Working Alone Working alone is permissible while doing paperwork, watering plants or while operating a laboratory instrument such as the mass spec, a GC or an HPLC. A buddy system must be used while working with chemicals, rotating machinery, chopping equipment, milling equipment, and while washing laboratory glassware. b. The Buddy System Buddies (that is, co-workers or fellow employees) must be working on the same floor. Buddies must check on each other at least once an hour to be sure that everything is okay. Checking may be done by telephone but if the buddy cannot be contacted by telephone, one buddy must physically locate the other buddy. Do NOT engage in the activities defined above if there is not a buddy available on your floor. The buddy system must meet these requirements at a minimum. An individual supervisor may have additional requirements. 8. Specific Emergency Procedures These are general examples for the most likely type of emergencies. Whenever possible, these procedures should be followed; however, each emergency is unique and will require you to use your best judgment. a. A Large Fire or Explosion Evacuate the area immediately. Control of large fires will be left to the fire department. Version of 13

Notify people in the area verbally and activate the nearest fire alarm. Call 2222 from the nearest telephone which is a safe distance away. Answer the operator's questions and let the operator hang up first. 911 should be used at the Field Test Site, Paramount Parkway, and Meridian Parkway. b. A Small Fire A small fire (wastebasket type) can be controlled with a fire extinguisher only if all the following conditions are met: o You have been trained in the use of a fire extinguisher. o You have your back to an exit. o Someone is backing you up with a second extinguisher. If you are at all unsure about your ability to control the fire, or if the above conditions are not met, evacuate the area immediately. Even a small fire can quickly become extremely dangerous if it contacts combustible or flammable material. c. A Medical Emergency Visually survey the area before taking action. If there is a hazardous atmosphere, you may need to evacuate and get protective equipment before you can help. If it is an electrical problem, you will need to protect yourself from being electrocuted. Verbally notify people in the area. Have someone call "2222" for First Aid Team response and an ambulance. 911 should be used at the Field Test Site, Paramount Parkway, and Meridian Parkway. Do not move the victim except to save them from additional harm or to open an airway, and do this only if you are sure that it is safe. When in doubt, leave the victim alone and wait for help. c. A Chemical Spill Down a Laboratory Sink Notify immediately. Call "2222" and tell the Emergency Control Center what was spilled and how much. d. A Solvent Spill in the Laboratory Evacuate the laboratory. Post the lab(s) using a Danger - Do Not Enter sign outside of the laboratory. Notify your co-workers verbally. Notify "2222" from another lab. Inform the Emergency Control Center of the location, amount, and type of spill e. A Solid Chemical Spill Evacuate the area. Notify your co-workers verbally. Post the "Danger - Do Not Enter" sign around the spill so that someone does not walk through the spill. Notify "2222". Inform the receptionist of the location, amount, and type of spill. Be sure to give the area designation in addition to the room number (for example, Chemistry 109). f. A Tornado Employees will be notified by site representatives based on information obtained from the National Weather Service. A "tornado watch" means that the weather conditions are favorable for a tornado to occur. A "tornado warning" means that a tornado has been sighted on the weather radar or has been physically seen by an individual. In the event of Version of 13

a tornado warning, employees should locate to interior, windowless areas of the building. This includes stairwells, conference rooms, basement area, break rooms, bathrooms, etc. An notification will be sent to all BASF employees located at RTP sites if a tornado warning is issued for the area; additionally, internal teams will sweep the buildings to notify employee who did not receive the communication. g. Radioactive Spills The Radiation Safety Officer must be notified of any incident that involves radioactive material. Radiolabeled compounds (Carbon-14 and Phosphorus-32) are routinely used for many studies at Agricultural Solutions. These are research isotopes that do not normally pose a hazard to those not involved in conducting experiments. The BASF Radiation Safety Manual has detailed information regarding the handling of radioactive material. h. Mercury Spill Every effort has been made to remove mercury-containing devices and chemicals from the site. However, if a broken device is found, call the emergency control center at 2222, so the Haz Mat Team can clean up the released mercury. 9. Personal Protective Equipment Personal protective equipment (PPE) available includes protective clothing such as safety glasses and shoes, laboratory coats, gloves and respirators. These must be worn in the laboratory. Please refer to department specific PPE grid for more specific information. 10. Ergonomics Most of our ergonomic related medical problems stem from long hours at the computer using less than ideal postures. There is a wealth of other ergonomics related material on the BASF website and at the OSHA website. Below are some general principles to keep in mind while using your workstation. a. Monitor o Align monitor with your body o Keep the top of the screen below eye level o Viewing distance to computer should be inches o Keep documents at a similar distance from you as the monitor. b. Keyboard o Keep wrists straight o Keep keyboard at elbow height (elbows bent at 90 ). o Upper arms should hang straight down (not stretched in front of you) o Palms should be off the keyboard. c. Mouse o Place near the keyboard o Place on the same plane as the keyboard o Move the mouse with your whole arm (not just wrist) Version of 13

d. Chair o Set chair height so your hands and wrists are at about the same level as the home row on the keyboard. If these adjustments cause your feet to dangle, you'll need a footrest. e. Work Practices o Vary your tasks and movements o Stretch (stand up, walk) 11. Shearon Harris Plant Safety Information The Field Test Site is located approximately six miles from the Harris Nuclear Power Plant. In the unlikely event of a nuclear accident, evacuation of a ten-mile area around the plant will take place. Sirens will notify persons in the evacuation zone of an emergency. A weather / emergency broadcast radio located in the FTS main office will also signal an emergency at the plant and provide instructions for evacuees. While working at the FTS, if you hear a siren that lasts for three minutes or longer, do the following: Report to the FTS main office. Activate weather / emergency broadcast radio for an explanation of the siren and for evacuation and safety instructions. If instructed to evacuate, sign-out before leaving the FTS, roll up car windows, close car vents, and listen to the emergency broadcast messages on the radio. If possible, return to the 26 Davis Drive BASF facility once you are outside the evacuation zone. Safety information provided by Harris Nuclear Power Plant is also posted on the bulletin board at the FTS. Consult this document for more detailed information. Version of 13

13. Other Programs on Site a. Radiation Safety Program All working with radioactive material must have initial and yearly refresher training. b. Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) All lab work is done under the CHP. Training is upon hire, and annually. The CHP has detailed rules and guidance regarding lab safety and operation. c. RCRA Training If transporting or handling Hazardous Waste, training is required. d. Biological Safety Training This is required for work with GMOs and other organisms. e. Blood Borne Pathogen Program Required for First Aid Team and applicable to all employees. f. Respirator Program You must have training, fit testing and medical clearance before wearing a respirator.
