These domed-cover concealed sprinklers complement our selection of flat-plate concealed sprinklers, providing designers and installers an expanded choice for installation flexibility. All domed-cover concealed sprinklers offer a full ½" (12,7mm) of adjustment and a secure installation with its pushon/thread-off design. The cover assemblies are available in standard chrome, white, black and ivory finishes, with custom colors available to blend into any décor. Plastic caps provide protection to the sprinkler during shipping and installation and also allow for an adequate gap between drywall mud and the sprinkler for easy installation of the concealed cover. Residential Concealed - The Freedom Residential Concealed Sprinkler is available with K-factors of 4.9 (7,1 metric) and 5.2 (7,5 metric). These sprinklers not only provide a clean look to homeowners, but also offer the most efficient flow characteristics available in any concealed residential sprinkler. Commercial Concealed - Commercial options include standard and quick response, standard and extended coverage, and an extra large orifice, extended coverage light hazard model. Dry Concealed - Viking's dry concealed sprinklers are available in standard response with K-factors of 5.6 (8,1 metric) and 8.0 (11,5 metric), quick response with a K-factor of 5.6 (8,1 metric) and extended coverage, standard and quick response with a K-factor of 5.6 (8,1 metric). 2 New Products Protect Combustible Concealed Spaces with New COIN Sprinkler Viking is pleased to introduce the new COIN Quick Response Combustible Interstitial Space Sprinkler. This Specific Application sprinkler has been tested and listed for use in specific light hazard combustible and non-combustible concealed horizontal spaces, such as the areas between floors of an apartment building requiring sprinkler protection per NFPA 13 and, in some cases, NFPA 13R. (See NFPA edition, paragraph ) With extended coverage listings for spacing up to 12' x 12' (3,7m x 3,7m), the COIN Sprinkler can be used with Wet Pipe Systems using steel or CPVC (made of either Blazemaster or Georgia Gulf resins) pipe or Dry Pipe Systems using galvanized steel pipe. The COIN sprinkler (VK900) is culus Listed and has a 4.2 (6,0 metric) K-factor and a starting pressure of 11.8 psi (81,4 kpa) at its maximum spacing and.1 gpm/ft2 (4,1mm/min). Additional Straightthrough Valves Offered Viking now offers straight-through Deluge and Flow Control Valves in groove/groove, flange/flange and flange/groove end configurations in 3" (DN80). And, later in 2004, watch for the release of Viking's 1-1/2" (DN40), 2" (DN50) and 2½ (DN65) straight-through valves in threaded and grooved configurations. These valves join the 4" (DN100), 6" (DN150) and 8" (DN200) sizes of straight-through products, which use the same simple, time-tested technology that you've come to depend on for your deluge and preaction needs. Viking's straight-through valves are compatible with EZ or conventional trim and can be installed either vertically or horizontally. They make dependable replacements in any existing straight-through system and, like their angle valve counterparts, these valves are resistant to problems caused by pressure surges. Viking's new valves are available with options for Firecycle III, Firecycle III-OH, SUREFIRE fail-safe single and double interlock systems and TrimPac. In addition, the valves are available with a corrosion-resistant Halar coating and the Model A-1 speed control assembly to address water hammer problems. 22-Foot Throw Available with New 4.2K Residential Horizontal Sidewall Viking releases the only residential horizontal sidewall sprinkler with coverage areas up to 16' x 22' (4,9m x 6,7m). The new Freedom 4.2 K-factor (6,0 metric) sprinkler, VK450, also offers the best flows and pressures available for any sprinkler currently available for 12' x 12' (3,7m x 3,7m) through 16' x 20' (4,9m x 6,1m) coverage areas. This sprinkler can be installed up to 12" (305mm) down from the ceiling and, like all Viking frame-style residential heads, may be used with the E-1 and E-2 recessed or F-1 adjustable escutcheons. Sloped ceiling listings for up to 8/12 (33.7 ) pitch are also available with this sprinkler, part number For a complete list of Viking's new Freedom Residential Sprinkler line, visit the Viking Web site at Small Orifice QR Mirage Concealed Now Available Viking has released a flat-plate commercial concealed sprinkler (VK416) with a K-factor of 4.2 (6,0 metric). This sprinkler is culus Listed and provides a full ½" of adjustment with its friction fit cover assembly. And, as always, the cover assembly is available in many finishes and colors to provide the right look for any installation. New Solution for Seismic Clearance Problems In some parts of the United States where the International Building Code has been adopted, contractors are being required to provide a 1" (25mm) clearance around any ceiling penetration. To address this issue, and other situations where the hole in the ceiling around a sprinkler s drop is larger than the outside diameter of a recessed escutcheon or flat plate concealed cover, Viking has developed an expansion plate. This plate, part number 12620, has an outside diameter of 5" (127mm), and can be used with E-1, E-2 and F-1 escutcheons, and flat plate concealed cover assemblies. Corrosion-resistant Release Line Hangers Now Available As an alternative to standard galvanized hangers, Viking now offers stainless steel release line hangers. Due to their corrosion-resistant qualities, these hangers are ideal for petrochemical plants, seawater atmospheres or other corrosive conditions. Page 2

3 New Products AnvilStar Expands Product Line AnvilStar has expanded its line of Add-a-Caps (SE-5) grooved x threaded reducing elbows to include 1-1/4" and 3" sizes. In addition, they have added a line of Grooved Welded Outlets (MT-5). The MT-5 comes in a variety of sizes and is available in standard and lightwall material. SE-5 RFI Kit Protects Against False Trips Wireless communication equipment is widely used in the construction and maintenance trade these days. When used around release panels, cell phones and other wireless equipment may cause the panel to accidentally trip. All new Viking Par 3 and Firecycle panels now come equipped with a Radio Frequency Interruption (RFI) kit. And, for panels purchased before 2004, a retrofit RFI kit is available by ordering part number from your local Viking distributor. Maintenance Kits Released NFPA 25 recommends regularly scheduled testing and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems. For your convenience when performing this maintenance, Viking has released Maintenance and Service Kits for current products and many discontinued valves and devices. For information on these kits, please see pages 71 and 72 of the February 2004 Viking price list. Reed Products Now Available Since 1896, Reed has manufactured pipe tools for many industries. Now, this quality product line is available through Viking SupplyNet. For pipe cutters, wrenches, roll groovers and dies, call your local SupplyNet distribution center. Kennedy Valves Offered with Grooved Ends MT-5 Just a reminder that Kennedy has added grooved connections as an option to their standard NRS and OS&Y valves in 4", 6" and 8". This design eliminates adapters that add cost and setup time to your installations. Domestic Grooved Products Now Available Through Viking SupplyNet When your specifications call for domestic grooved products, Viking SupplyNet can now provide Anvil Gruvlok products. Gruvlok features time-tested, quality products available galvanized and painted made 100% in the U.S.A. And, the selfaligning Gruvlok flange has anti-rotation tangs, which grip the side of the pipe to provide a secure, rigid connection. Gruvlok products are available in short and standard pattern fittings, and their exclusive DRI-SEAL style gasket requires no lubrication. Expansion Joints Protect Sprinkler Systems During Seismic Events Viking SupplyNet now carries expansion joints for fire sprinkler systems. Manufactured by Metraflex, the Fireloop product protects fire sprinkler systems during seismic events and from building movement in any direction. The Fireloop is a cost effective and compact alternative to other methods of designing for seismic movement and eliminates the need for multiple, convoluted joints or grooved couplings fabricated on site. Tolco Releases New Hangers Tolco's new Figure 28 is a "Stand-Off" Hanger and Restrainer for CPVC plastic pipe. This product eliminates the need for wood blocking on TJI type installations and can be used to hang or support horizontal or vertical plastic piping. The revolutionary new "snap-in" design allows for fast and easy installation, and this product is culus Listed as both a Hanger and Restrainer for fire sprinkler piping. Another new product available through Viking SupplyNet is the Figure 200H, Heavy Duty Band Hanger, for Trapeze type installations. This product is available for ½" through 4" trapeze pipe sizes and can be used to support up to 8" pipe. The Figure 200H is designed primarily to support substantially heavier loads than is normally intended for the nominal hanger size, and is used extensively to support trapeze installations and the increased loads from both above and below the trapeze assembly. 4 New Listings and Approvals UL Listing on K-25 ESFR Pendent Viking has received UL and cul Listings as a Specific Application ESFR Sprinkler for the K25.2 (36,3 metric) ESFR pendent sprinkler (VK510). This sprinkler may be installed in buildings up to 45 ft. (13,7m) high and can protect most common storage materials, including palletized and solid pile storage, from Class 1 commodities to rubber tires without the use of in-rack sprinklers. The Viking K-25 ESFR's sturdy link design, combined with the plastic protective cap, is less susceptible to damage during transport and installation. With an overall length 1/3 smaller than comparable sprinklers, the Viking K-25 provides an easier, more flexible, cost-effective solution. Grate Nozzle Receives UL Listing The Viking Grate Nozzle was designed for underwing protection in aircraft hangars and can also be used for helipads and flammable liquid loading facilities. This product is now UL Listed in addition to being FM Approved. Grate Nozzles are installed on piping in trench drains and discharge a foam/water solution in a 360-degree pattern at a height between 12 and 19 inches (305 and 483 mm) above the floor. This product is typically used in lieu of oscillating monitor nozzles. New York City Approvals Viking has received New York City MEA Approval on several Freedom Residential Sprinklers listed below: VK430 Model M-4 Pendent 4.3 (6,2) K-factor, part number VK432 Model M-5 Pendent 5.5 (7,9) K-factor, part number VK425 Flat-plate Concealed Pendent 4.1 (5,9) K-factor, part number 10784A (10786 cover) In addition, Viking has received MEA Approval on SUREFIRE Fail/Safe Preaction systems - single and double interlock. (Double interlock system is approved for installations in refrigerated rooms only.) SUREFIRE is the first (and only!) electrically actuated preaction system that will activate automatically when primary and backup power sources fail. FM Approval on Black Polyester Sprinklers FM now includes black polyester finishes in its approval for Viking standard and quick response, ½" (15mm) upright and pendent sprinklers (VK100, 102, 300 and 302). USC Approves Colt and Maxim Backflows USC Approval has been received on 6" Colt series (previously only approved through 4") and 4" Maxim (previously only approved through 3") double check backflow devices. Personnel-ly Speaking Tom Bowers Appointed National Sales Manager for Viking Fabrication Services Viking Group is pleased to announce the addition of Tom Bowers to the position of National Sales Manager for Viking Fabrication Services. Tom started in the fire sprinkler industry in 1986 as a salesman for Northern Ohio. He joined the Viking SupplyNet team as Regional Sales Manager for the Midwest and North Central Regions in September In July 2001, he left Viking SupplyNet to start his own fabrication company. Answer: EZ trim is UL Listed and FM Approved for most Double Interlock Preaction system applications. The use of EZ Trim for a Double Interlock Electric/Pneu-lectric Preaction system has demonstrated over time to be a trouble free system and will continue to be available from Viking. Electric/Pneumatic and Pneumatic/Pneumatic double interlocked preaction systems with EZ trim can be more difficult to install properly depending on field conditions. In order to ensure the best results when installing double interlock systems, they will be available with Conventional Trim only (except for Electric/Pneu-lectric) from this time on. TotalPac systems are factory assembled and tested in a controlled environment and will still use EZ Trim for Double Interlock Preaction systems. The QuikPik systems (the easiest way to order loose preaction systems) have been modified to reflect the above trim changes. All Single Interlock Preaction Systems and Double Interlock Electric/Pneu-lectric Systems will still be available with EZ Trim. Question: Can the fail-safe SureFire Single and Double Interlock Preaction Systems have cross-zoned detection? Answer: The Viking SureFire Single and Double Interlock Preaction systems cannot be cross-zoned through the standard Par 3/B-1 panel that is Listed and Approved for use with these systems. Detection Zone 1 in the Par 3 is for detection, and the remaining detection zone, Detection Zone 2, is used for air pressure detection. However, the desired result may be achieved by cross-zoning the detectors through a fire alarm panel, which can then send a signal to Detection Zone 1 of the Par 3 panel through an isolated relay. Cross-zoning a double interlock system is not done very often, because it has the potential for causing even greater delays in system operation. Before proceeding with any proposed detection scenario, coordination with the AHJ is recommended.
