Do not leave this Instruction Manual or other objects in the temperature controller s enclosure during operation. Use the temperature controller only in undamaged and clean condition, and only for the purpose for which it is intended. If the temperature controller is assembled incorrectly, the minimum protection classification of IP 54 according to EN :1991 will no longer be assured. Do not make any changes to the temperature controller other than those specifically mentioned in this Instruction Manual. When doing any work on the temperature controller, be sure to observe the national safety and accident prevention codes as well as the safety instructions in this Instruction Manual, which are stated in italics like this paragraph!

Installation For installation/operation, observe the rules of ElexV and the Equipment Safety Law as well as the generally accepted rules of engineering practice (EN ) and this Instruction Manual. Any manipulation or recalibration of thermostats must be carried out in the deenergized state only.

The temperature controller is designed for rigid mounting only, and should be used only for temperature control duty unrelated to safety aspects. A separate cable entry is provided for each temperature sensor and for each switching circuit. Only the cable entries provided for the respective switching circuits should be used for those circuits. The temperature sensors must be installed in such a way that their geometry (and therefore their volume) is not changed in any respect. No metal clips should be used for mounting, because they could deform the sensors when tightened. It is therefore recommended that glassfibre adhesive tape be used. The capillary tube should be installed so that it is protected; it is absolutely necessary to observe the minimum bending radius of 10 mm. Bending the capillary tube more than once can produce hairline cracks and should be avoided. Make the electrical connection as shown in Figure 1. Be very careful not to mix up the heater connection and the cooler connection. Prior to initial start-up, check to make sure that the connections are made up correctly. Then carry out a functional check, which must be duly recorded.

6 Manual PTB 97 ATEX 1031 X 6 Failure to observe the above figures or inadvertent interchanging of contacts can be dangerous! Because of their starting current, self-limiting heating cables should never be switched on or off directly by a thermostat! If the capillary tube is exposed to the same temperature as the sensor, differences will arise between the setpoint and actual temperatures. As the medium in the capillary tube heats up, it acts as an additional thermal sensor. The resulting error can amount to about 1.5 Kelvin per meter and 10 Kelvin temperature difference. Depending on the configuration, alter the capillary tube arrangement or, in the case of minor discrepancies, readjust as shown in Figure 2. The maximum admissible ambient temperature, which depends on the temperature class and the maximum current loading, is shown in the following table. Select the cross-section for the connecting cable as a function of the rated current. 5. Maintenance The provisions of ElexV 9, ElexV 13, and EN applicable to maintenance/overhaul/testing must be observed. When performing maintenance work, pay special attention to checking those parts that govern the equipment s type of protection.
