Topics include: history and philosophy of fire prevention; organization and operation of a fire prevention bureau; use and application of codes and standards; plans review; fire inspections; fire and life safety education; and fire investigation. COURSE PREREQUISITE (S): Admission into the Fire Science Program RATIONALE: This course is designed for the entire fire service or the student that would like to enter the career field. FIST 2020 focuses heavily on the building inspection, fire prevention and fire code history, compliance and enforcement. This course also examines the factors that shape fire risk and the tools for fire prevention, including risk reduction education, codes and standards, inspection and plans review, fire investigation, research, master planning, various types of influences, and strategies.
