3 I General C-9104 (hereinafter called the detector) detects fire by the ultraviolet produced by material flaming. It's applicable to places easy to occur open fire, fire with intense flame radiation or fire without smoldering stage and places demanding quick response to a fire. Used together with other detectors, it can sense fire in time to avoid losses as much as possible. II Features Applying excellent UV sensor, the detector has the features of high sensitivity, reliable performance, dust-proof, damp-proof and corrosion-proof. 4 Fig. 1 Structure 2) Operation Principle The detector is DC powered, which powers signal processing circuit after voltage stabilization, the UV sensor needs a voltage of about 300V, which is provided after boosted by transformer. When there is ultraviolet light on the sensor, it discharges due to photoelectric effect, and the strength of discharge is in proportion with the intensity of UV light. Signal processing circuit shapes and integrates its output signal, then compares with alarm threshold and outputs alarm signals. The alarming mode of the detector is current output mode; it's shorted out by internal 680Ω after alarming. V Mounting and Wiring Warning: Before installing the detector, disconnect the power from the loop and verify that all bases are securely installed and that the wiring polarity is correct at each base. 1) Before installation, check whether the enclosure and labels complete or not. 5 C ) Orientation base of the detector is shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 3 Thread the detector wires through the wiring holes of embedded box and orientation base; fix the orientation base on the embedded box. There are four terminals with numbers on the orientation base. "1" and "3" to power supply, "1" is anode and "3" is cathode, "2" to next detector. There are location elements on the detector and the orientation base to ensure there is only one installing position. There are two marks on point A and B of the orientation base, and a mark on point C of the side face of bottom of the detector. When installing, aligning the mark C of the detector to point A of the orientation base, rotate the detector clockwise to point B, then the detector is installed. 3) Wiring: 227 IEC 05 cable with cross section not less than 1.0mm 2. VI Testing Warning: Power up only after all devices are well connected. 1) Test should be made to the detector after installation and after annual maintenance. 2) Put the detector at normal operating state, remove the detector, there should be fault signal on the fire alarm control panel. Ignite ultraviolet light source in front of the detector, fire alarm indicator should be lit, and the control panel should generate alarm signal. 3) After testing, reset the detector through the control panel. Notify the proper authorities the system is back in operation. 4) If a detector fails in testing, clean it as described in VIII Maintenance and test it again. If it still fails, return it for repair. VII Troubleshooting The detector should be installed just before commissioning and kept well before Page 3

6 installation, taken corresponding measures for dust-proof, damp-proof and corrosion-proof. Main fault and solutions are as follows: 1) Reporting Fault: Check wires and fire alarm control panel, then check internal parts of the detector. 2) Nuisance Alarm: Ensure there is no UV light source, then check its sensor and signal processing circuit. VIII Maintenance 1) The detector should be cleaned at least once a year to ensure normal operation of the system. 2) Before cleaning, notify the proper authorities that the system is undergoing maintenance and will temporarily be out of service. Disable the zone or system undergoing maintenance to avoid unwanted alarms. 3) Remove the detector, clean it and installed it again. 4) Test the detector after installed again. IX Cautions The detector should be handled with care wherever it is moved, to avoid collision, squeezing, and friction. The detector is not suitable for the following places. 1) Where flameless fires are expected. 2) Where thick smoke spreads before flames. 3) Places where the "view" of the detector is easy to be obscured. 4) Where the sun can directly or indirectly shine the detector. 5) Where there are strong ultraviolet light source, such as halogen and tungsten. 6) Where there is open flame, welding operation, X rays and arc and spark etc. Page 4
