1 CORN INSECICIDES READ LISED PRECAUIONS CAREFULLY, AS CONROL MAY BE DECREASED DO NO apply products unless conditions for are verified by crop scouting thresholds or label recommendations. BE AWARE that recommendations are for the states of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin OY. Applicators in other states should READ LABEL for rates and precautions, and check with your state Department of Agriculture for product registration prior to use in your state. Applicators in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin should check GENERAL PROPERIES table to assure that product is registered for use in your state. ALWAYS READ HE LABEL FOR HE MOS COMPLEE AND ACCURAE APPLICAION INFORMAION. HIS HANDBOOK DOES NO REPLACE INFORMAION ON HE LABEL. CORN INSECICIDES 1-119

CORN ROOWORM LARVAE hreshold: reat when corn follows corn, where western corn rootworm variant population is established, or where extended diapause northern corn rootworms are present. CORN INSEC HRESHOLDS FOR SOIL-APPLIED CONROL CUWORM hreshold: reat in fields with winter annual weed growth and where there is a history of cutworm damage
17 CORN INSEC HRESHOLDS FOR SOIL-APPLIED CONROL SEEDCORN MAGGO hreshold: reat in fields with large amounts of decaying organic matter or manure, especially during cool, wet weather, when corn germination and early growth are slowed. WHIE GRUB hreshold: reat when there is a history of white grubs in the field and the corn crop will be planted where small grains, grasses, or grass weeds were present. Shovel samples taken just ahead of corn planting resulting in 1 white grub per square foot of soil will justify soil insecticide use or insecticide seed treatment. WIREWORM hreshold: reat when there is a history of wireworm damage and corn will be planted where small grains, grasses, or grassy-remove weeds were present. wo wireworms in 10 shovels of soil or 1 wireworm per grain bait station will justify insecticide or insecticide seed treatment. 20 CORN INSEC HRESHOLDS FOR FOLIAR-APPLIED CONROL CORN INSEC HRESHOLDS FOR FOLIAR-APPLIED CONROL ARMYWORM hresholds: Early Season reat if 25% of the plants are damaged or if some plants are being killed. Late Season reat if feeding occurs above the ear level on 10 to 20% of the plants. See label for armyworm species controlled. In general, use higher rates for large larvae, see label. BILLBUG hreshold: reat when feeding of the adults is killing plants and reducing stands to critical levels. Plants with leaf feeding damage usually recover. here is no rescue treatment for larvae feeding within the corn stalks or in and around corn roots. For all products listed, ground apply in gal/a spray volume at 40 psi; apply in 9-12 inch band over the row for corn <6 inches in height; use drop nozzles directed at base of plant for corn >6 inches in height. CORN EARWORM hreshold: reatment is seldom justified for field corn. For seed corn and sweet corn, treatment may be justified when there are significant moth catches in pheromone traps and fresh silks are present on the corn. Apply before larvae enter plant. CORN LEAF APHID hreshold: reat if 50% of the plants have >100 aphids per plant and plants are under drought stress. Control is also warranted if 3% or more of the plants have their tassels and upper leaves heavily infested, plants are under moisture stress, and the population is increasing. CORN ROOWORM BEELE hresholds: Silk clipping reat if silks are cut off to less than 0.5 inch before 50% pollination. Adult suppression to prevent egg laying reat when there are 0.75 beetles per plant and before 10% of the females have mature eggs. If beetles re-infest the field, treat again when there are 0.5 beetles per plant
21 CORN INSEC HRESHOLDS FOR FOLIAR-APPLIED CONROL CUWORM hresholds: Black Cutworm reat when 3% of the plants are cut, worms are 1 inch long or less, and there are 2 or more worms per 100 plants at the 2-leaf stage or 4 or more worms per 100 plants at the 4-leaf stage. Dingy Cutworm reat when 3% of plants are cut, worms are 1 inch long or less, and there are 3 or more worms per 100 plants at the 2-leaf stage or 5 or more worms per 100 plants at the 4-leaf stage. CORN INSEC HRESHOLDS FOR FOLIAR-APPLIED CONROL EUROPEAN CORN BORER hresholds: First Generation reat when 50% of the whorl leaves show fresh feeding, live larvae are present, and the corn is 24 inches tall. reat before larvae bore into the stalk. Second Generation reat when there are 50 egg masses per 100 plants. If cumulative counts (taken 1 week apart) exceed 1 egg mass for every 2 plants, apply a treatment or use a worksheet. See label for timing of based on generation and egg hatch. Apply before larvae enter plant. FALL ARMYWORM hreshold: reat if 75% or more of the plants are damaged and if worms are still present. Worms over 1 inch have almost completed feeding and DO NO warrant treatment. Control of ear tip feeding is ineffective. See label for timing of based on generation and egg hatch. Apply before larvae enter plant. FLEA BEELE hreshold: reat when there are more than 5 flea beetles per plant and 50% of the plants show severe feeding damage (plants look silvery or whitish, or leaves begin to die). GRASSHOPPER hresholds: Early Season reat field margins when more than 15 nymphs or 8 adults are found per square yard in border areas. Late Season reat when there are more than 7 adults per square yard. After pollen shed, treatment is justified for feeding on the leaves above ear level
22 CORN INSEC HRESHOLDS FOR FOLIAR-APPLIED CONROL CORN INSEC HRESHOLDS FOR FOLIAR-APPLIED CONROL JAPANESE BEELE hreshold: Silk Clipping reat if silks are cut off to less than 0.5 inch before 50% pollination SOUHERN CORN LEAF BEELE hreshold: reat when 25% or more of the corn plants are experiencing notable defoliation, or when 3% or more of the plants are being cut. When dry soils encourage more underground feeding by this pest, treat sooner. SOUHWESERN CORN BORER hreshold: reat when egg laying has been detected and 25% of the plants have egg masses or small larvae. reatment must be applied before larvae enter leaf midribs or the stalk. See label for timing of based on generation and egg hatch. Apply before larvae enter plant. SALK BORER hreshold: Early instar stalk borers can be controlled on corn before they enter the plant if more than 25% of the plants show injury. here is no rescue treatment for stalk borers once they enter the plant. See label for stalk borer species controlled. Apply before larvae enter plant. WESERN BEAN CUWORM hreshold: reat in field corn if 8% of the plants have egg masses (or small larvae), and when larvae have hatched and 95% of the tassels have emerged, but before larvae move to silks. Apply before larvae enter plant
