6 WORK PRACTICES INTERIOR Remove or cover all objects from the work area Close and cover all ducts, windows and doors Cover the floor surface with taped-down plastic sheeting Ensure that all personnel, tools, and other items are free of dust and debris before leaving the work area
7 WORK PRACTICES EXTERIOR Close all doors and windows within 20 feet of the renovation Cover the ground with plastic sheeting to a sufficient distance to collect falling paint debris. This should be a minimum of 10 feet from the renovation.
8 WORK PRACTICES EXTERIOR CONTINUED Vertical containment is required if the renovation will affect surfaces within 10 feet of the property line Ground containment can stop at the edge of the vertical containment
9 Some Practices are Prohibited open-flame burning or torching machines that remove paint by means of high speed operations such as: Sanding Grinding power planing needle gun abrasive blasting, or sandblasting, unless they are used with HEPA exhaust control operating a heat gun above 1100 degrees Fahrenheit
10 RENOVATION WASTES Contain waste until it is removed from the work area for storage or disposal Store collected waste so that dust and debris do not escape out of the work area Contain waste during transport from renovation area For COFs, if the amount of waste generated exceeds 220 lbs/job site/month, it should be treated as hazardous waste
11 Cleaning the Work Area Collect paint chips and seal in heavy-duty bag Remove and mist protective plastic Fold the plastic dirty-side inwards Tape shut or seal in heavy-duty bags Dispose
12 POST RENOVATION CLEANING Clean walls starting at the ceiling and working down to the floor Vacuum all remaining surfaces and objects in the work area, including furniture and fixtures, with a HEPA vacuum Wipe all remaining surfaces and objects in the work area with a damp cloth Mop uncarpeted floors Must pass a visual inspection
