LOOKING INTO THE ABYSS Like all of Duffy s designs, the Abyss Table is a conversation piece as much as a functional one. But while previous works play with gravity, this new design is concerned with depth, and creates a geological cross-section as mesmerising as the sea. Limited edition of 25

This monolithic design takes its inspiration from The Sentinel, a book by Arthur C. Clarke that went on to be made into the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, directed by Stanley Kubrick. A glass table top seems to balance miraculously on top of toppling monoliths, which appear to be frozen in a permanent state of impending collapse. The concept is based on furniture we made from cube shaped Sydney milk crates and found planks of wood. The multifunctional possibilities of these two simple components are endless, with the locating feet and holes locking the units together. The concept is based on furniture we made from cube shaped Sydney milk crates and found planks of wood.
