This includes the oyster population which has significantly decreased and is vital to the ecosystem. Every year a team of Dansko employees carpools down to the bay and helps CBF build oyster balls which are used to create baby oyster habitats. Once the babies attach, the balls are dropped onto the floor of the bay where the babies grow to adulthood forming reefs and providing habitat for a wide range of marine plants and animals. In addition, the oysters filter the water by feeding on microscopic plants which improves the quality and clarity of the Bay.
