10 FANTEX THE SCIENCE BEHIND OUR CURTAINS AND BLINDS All In One Medical Curtains and Blinds are all treated with an antimicrobial protective agent called Fantex a biocide designed to absorb pathogens into the product s surface to ensure a fast, efficient kill rate. It keeps on destroying micro-organisms even after multiple inoculations on the same area % (Log 5) kill rate in 3 minutes. Killing pathogens to protect people Fantex is a biomimetic polymer that copies the effects of natural peptides found in nature. The compound is electrically charged and these charges mimic those associated with the naturally occurring defence proteins found in certain amphibians and maggots. Micro-organisms have not been known to develop resistance to Fantex, and it is effective against bacteria, fungi (including yeasts) and many viruses. Scientific studies demonstrate the effectiveness of Fantex against a wide range of micro-organisms linked to HAIs, such as MRSA.

11 DISPOSABLE CURTAINS AND BLINDS Fantex: In vivo testing at independent hospitals Independent tests were performed on our Medical Curtains that were placed within a number of busy wards over a three month period at UCLH and Lincoln hospitals*. The findings were conclusive and showed that all our curtains were free from pathogens. Test method The contact plates were opened and the agar surface was evenly pressed onto the leading edge** of the curtain for approximately 10 seconds. The plates were then closed and incubated for 48 hours after which a bacterial count was conducted. For a cleaner, safer anti-bacterial healthcare environment. There were four quantitative bacterial counts obtained from 20 consecutive curtains in 20 bed spaces (10 antimicrobial disposable curtains and 10 laundered cloth curtains) over two months to assess the correlation between laundered curtains and increased risk of cross contamination between patient and staff. The trial was carried out in high dependency units and other critical care bed spaces to simulate worstcase scenarios. Controlling the spread of viruses As part of our rigorous independent testing we are able to verify that our curtains and blinds will kill Influenza, Corona and Noro viruses. Conclusive results in favour of Fantex Quantitative bacterial counts on All In One Medical Disposable Curtains produced a minute amount of bacteria: <2 individual bacteria on 60% of the curtains and zero or no growth on 40%. The laundered curtains produced counts of >50*** on every curtain. * Total period was two months including four samples of 10 All In One Medical Curtains and 10 laundered cloth curtains. ** The area where staff and patients would normally come into contact with the curtain. *** Count was stopped at 50 for each bacteria found.
