M4 Corridor around Newport REFERENCE NO. : ID / 030 PUBLIC INQUIRY DOCUMENT RAISED BY: Matthew Jones DATE: 26/04/17 RESPONDED BY: DATE: SUBJECT: Green Route Counter Objections and Support Correspondence Please find attached counter objections and support received to date relating to the Green Route Objectors suggested alternative.
Kath Sanders From: gavin-morrison Sent: 23 March :45 To: Info-m4-can Subject: Orders Branch I wish to object to all the Objectors Suggested Alternatives as I consider there is no available capacity on existing roads and that the alternative new roads are not as good as the original Welsh Government proposed new road. Gavin Morrison 14 Home Farm Close Caerleon, Newport NP18 3SH Sent from: YOGA TABLET 1
Kath Sanders From: DAVID Masters Sent: 25 March :16 To: Info-m4-can Subject: FW: M4 Corridor around Newport From: DAVID Masters Sent: 23 March :01 To: can.com Subject: M$ Corridor around Newport Please accept this as my support for the BLUE route as an alternative to the proposed BLACK route. As a second option I support the GREEN route as an alternative to the proposed BLACK route Rgds David Masters Director DMC Ltd Mobile
Kath Sanders From: PATRICIA MARTIN Sent: 25 March :07 To: Info-m4-can Subject: THE OBJECTORS' SUGGESTED ALTERNATIVES MARCH 2017 Fao the Department for Economy and Infrastructure I wish to object to all of the Alternative Routes put forward by the Objectors as set out in the latest pamphlet, dated March 2017 in respect of the proposed new M4 Corridor around Newport. This is on the grounds that an M4 new relief corridor is urgently needed. We are already way behind schedule and all of the while the community around the Newport area in particular is experiencing a daily commute headache which is years away from being solved. Any further delay in considering any of these alternatives is a complete waste of time and should be avoided at all costs. The proposed scheme, as set out in the pamphlet circulated dated March 2016, is the best and most suitable option and its implementation is urgently and desperately needed; otherwise, the Welsh Economy and local communities will continue to suffer. In particular, I wish to object to Objectors' Suggested Alternative route and suggested alternative route 20, since both of these routes would detrimentally affect my property and locality. Thank you for the opportunity of expressing my views at this time. regards, Patricia Martin 3, Schooner Walk, NEWPORT NP10 8DZ. 1
From: Communications Sent: 24 March :59 To: Brian Greaves Subject: Contact regarding M4 corridor around newport Page used to send this /topics/transport/roads/schemes/forms/m4-newport-contact-form/ Title: Mrs First name: lisa Last name: kenniford Telephone: I wish to support the Welsh Governments plan for M4 corridor around Newport. I do not Ask a question: agree with the objectors proposals. Regards, Lisa Kenniford. 1, Arundel Road, Newport. NP19 8NY.
Kath Sanders From: Colin & Jen Price Sent: 29 March :04 To: Info-m4-can Subject: M4 corridor comments Dear Sir/Madam We recognise that the current M4 is congested but if a relief corridor is to be provided we would favour a route that runs, on the eastern side of Newport, as far north as is practicably possible in order to minimise impact on the main swathe of the SSSI on the Gwent Levels. We are also of the view that there should not be a new interchange to serve the former steelworks site - such provision would encourage use of the 'new' motorway as a ring road, as is the case with the present motorway where it loops around the town. Yours faithfully Colin Price and Jennifer Price 8 Holly Lodge Gardens Croesyceiliog Cwmbran NP44 2NB 1

Kath Sanders From: Ian Sent: 07 April :47 To: Info-m4-can Subject: M4 Objectors alternatives Follow Up Flag: Flag Status: Follow up Flagged I am a regular commuter and recognise the urgent need to improve access the M4. As a resident of Undy, I strongly support the development of an interchange between the M4, M48 and A4245, which will instantly reduce the level of traffic passing through Undy and Magor, leading to quieter local roads, improved air quality and reduced noise. Road users from Caldicot, and Rogiet and those using Severn Tunnel junction, would also benefit from improved access and journey times along with those from Chepstow who currently have to use Junction 23A at times when the first Severn bridge is closed. Additionally, the impact of roadworks of closures of the A4245 would be significantly reduced for all. Regarding the interchange, I tend to favour the original Black route proposal, or Suggested Alternative 8, but have no strong feelings about the implementation provided that an effective interchange between all three routes is achieved. I object strongly to Objectors Alternative Route 21 which is proposed to run to the south of Undy and Magor. This is poorly thought out and would make Undy/Magor into an island with motorways on all sides leading to reduced air quality and increased road noise irrespective of wind direction. It has the added disadvantage of not relieving any of the local motorway access issues. I supported the original Black route, but of the alternatives offered, I believe that Alternative Route 3 (Via Wilcrick) warrants additional investigation if considered in addition to the interchange mentioned above. One major concern relates to the sourcing of the limestone ballast from Slade Wood/Millets Wood. I am concerned that the quarrying will take away what is a well used and well loved woodland area, Have any assurances been provided that the woods will be preserved and that the existing quarry will be exhausted before either of the woods is destroyed? Additionally, are there any conditions on quarrying that ensure that the quarried site will be returned to woodland? Please feel free to contact me for further input if required. Ian Jennings. 8 Tredegar Drive, Undy. 1
Kath Sanders From: Jez Hattosh-Nemeth Sent: 20 April :29 To: Subject: M4 Corridor Objectors' Alternatives Hello, As a resident of Rogiet I would like to positively support the Welsh Governments' proposed plans for M4 access between Undy and Rogiet at the 'Angle'. I am prompted to write to you after being canvased on my doorstep, and encouraged to support the proposed works to be moved to the space between Rogiet and Caldicot, (objectors suggested alternative 19 Green). A spirited argument was made on my doorstep, but I cannot agree with what was said, and feel that with lack of information and the bigger picture although very convincing, was misguided. I feel this pressure has come from self interest of individuals and understandably the proximity of their homes to the proposed works rather than collecting an objective and honest representation of what the majority of residents want. Everybody I have talked with is fully behind and supportive of the works initially proposed at the 'Angle' at the confluence of M4/M48 and welcome it. I talked with a representational demographic of working aged/young family residents of Magor, Rogiet and Caldicot through social media/facebook groups about 100+ people. Nobody wants more roads built, but improved access to the motorways, and where it is proposed is seen as a very positive move forward for the area. The main fear that people have is not the East/West M4 access plan, but secondary infrastructure considerations that impact on the community as traffic, new housing developments and demand for parking to Severn Tunnel Junction increases but I see this as a separate matter and not to be confused with the M4 access. Although residents want reassurance that there will be some support for the impact on local infrastructure and services from increased 'local' traffic from new home developments that the proposal has brought Objectors' alternative 19 (green) onto the existing M48 would be welcomed in addition to the Governments' plans for East/West M4 access at the Angle to alleviate transport problems in the future. For further discussion between the Welsh government and Monmouthshire CC to identify responsibilities here. I believe personally that where the designated works are proposed and the ease of access to the M4 for both east and west travel will bring many benefits to the local community and immediate area as a whole into the future that positive change brings. Regards, Jeremy Hattosh Nemeth 29 Crossway, Rogiet Monmouthshire NP26 3SJ
