Staff Member on the Committee Responsible for Preparing the Egyptian Code of Practice and Specifications for Founding on Rocks: (June 99-present) Member on the Committee Responsible for Revising the Arabian Lexicon for Housing, Architecture and Reconstruction: (July October 2000) Civil Engineering Dept., North Carolina State University, Raleigh, N.C., USA (Aug. 91-Dec. 95) * Research Assistant: Developed a new method for including fuzzy variables in statistical risk analysis, developed a framework for including fuzzy imprecision in probabilistic risk analysis, applied the newly developed frameworks to the problem of seismic liquefaction, and produced contour maps expressing the total probability of liquefaction in a region. Implemented two user- friendly computer programs to achieve the above tasks. Developed a semi-analytical method for the wave-induced seabed response as well as a computer program for the mathematical computations involved in this method. Enhanced and developed a variety of geotechnical computer programs. Lab Instructor: Engineering Behavior of Soils and Foundations (CE342). Tasks included preparation of experiments, running labs, and grading exams and reports. Shared in the assessment of Qena Cement factory, Qena. Shared in assessing and suggesting remedies for several mal-functioning sewage pipelines nationwide. Shared in assessing and suggesting remedies to a variety of structures located at arid areas and subjected to partial or severe damage. Designed diaphragm walls and Berlin walls for Arab Contractors, Abassia, Cairo, Egypt. Inspected and suggested solutions for some broken pipe-lines in Helwan. This included strutted excavation design as well as dewatering for the site under consideration. Revised, structurally and geotechnically, a 14-story building, including 3 basements, for AL-Forsan 1 project, Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt. Shared in the structural and geotechnical revision of a huge project, Golden Pyramids Plaza, currently City Stars, at Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt. Shared in the geotechnical design of a major petroleum refinement plant Ha aby located between Port Said and Damietta. Shared in the geotechnical design of a major Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant at Damietta. Shared in the decision making for some geotechnical and seismic aspects regarding the design and construction of Mubarak Pumping Station and Shiekh Zaied Canal, Toshka. Shared in preparing numerous geotechnical reports for a variety of structures located nationwide. Designed a mechanically stabilized retaining wall at "Al-Ein Bay", Al-Ein El-Sokhna, Egypt. Revised the design (from VSL, Spain) and supervised the construction of a major reinforced retaining wall. The wall is the third highest wall by VSL worldwide and the first in Egypt. Designed a massive retaining wall located at AlMeerag City, Mokattam, Cairo Geotechnical design of a group of bridges crossing the Nile at Edfo, Aswan, Assuit, etc. Assessed and suggested remedies for the residence of H.E., the Ambassador of the KSA to Egypt. The structure is located in Zamalek, Cairo. Assessed and proposed extensions for El-Bahrain Embassy- Zamalek- Cairo. Geotechnical consultant for Villas located at Al-Khamaiel City- El-Shiekh Zayed. Geotechnical consultant for Tennis club located at Al-Khamaiel City- El-Shiekh Zayed. Geotechnical consultant for a new city south of El-Lotus Resort- North Coast. Geotechnical consultant for OFOK Gardens resort- Cairo-Alexandria HW. Geotechnical consultant for OFOK Residence resort- Cairo-Alexandria HW. Specified and assessed the defects as well as suggested the remedies for several residential, touristic and industrial structures. Designed shallow as well as deep foundations for numerous structures located nationwide. Assessed the status of several existing structures and suggested necessary actions. Suggested strengthening and retrofitting of a variety of structures. Prepared more than 2000 geotechnical report for a variety of structures located nationwide. This includes residential and commercial buildings, factories, hotels, hangers, etc. A sample of the relatively recent projects include: repair and retrofitting of a man-made island in a 5 stars resort located in Hurghada, Red Sea; retrofitting and restoration of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Zamalek, Cairo; Dewatering and retrofitting of a historic mosque, AlMas AlHageb, Cairo; Review of the geotechnical design and supervising the construction of m high earth retaining structure, Cairo-Alexandria HW; geotechnical report and design of piles, National Research Center, Cairo, Egypt;

Implemented a computer program for the pile capacity determination using several methods. Designed laterally loaded piles (Komombo). Participated in the design of piles used for strutted excavations at a pumping station and a clarifier (Pyramids Sewage Station). Participated in analyzing the performance of driven piles (Tanta Grain Silos Complex). Misr Consultants, Cairo, Egypt. (July 87-Dec. 88) Project Engineer: The responsibilities included designing superstructures, as well as foundations, of high rise buildings, touristic villages; the extension of already existing structures; the design of non-conventional structures.
