Utilising over 40 years experience, a range of high performance products and a powerful supply chain, we have the global reach to support any civil engineering project. Our Geosynthetic experts have advised on some of the largest projects in the UK, and every day, we make unusable ground usable. We specialise in: Separation / Reinforcement / Filtration / Erosion Control Containment / Load Transfer / Stabilisation
Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering We operate in the following sectors: Utilities & Energy Roads & Infrastructure Rail & Aviation Ports & Harbours Construction & Housing Flood Defence
Stratec Geogrids Geogrids. Reinforcement / Load Transfer Stratec Geogrid is a polypropylene extruded biaxial geogrid manufactured to exacting standards. Stratec Geogrid is fully compliant to ISO 9001 standards for its systematic approach to quality. The construction of the biaxial geogrid makes it ideal for use in many civil engineering applications with its primary use being for reinforcement of weak and unstable ground. Typical applications Haul Roads Windfarms Substations Piling Platforms Hard Standings Carparks Standard Apperture G20PP 20kN tensile strength Geogrid for light duty applications. G30PP 30kN tensile strength Geogrid. Our most popular all round grid. G40PP 40kN tensile strength Geogrid for use in demanding environments.
Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering Case Study Windy Standard II Windfarm The advance works for Windy Standard consisted of track widening and the construction of 2 link roads of which both were over exceptional peat depths. The solution that was opted for was two layers of Geogrid also incorporating a single layer of Non Woven Needlepunched Geotextile. The worked design for this project consisted of brash and a thin regulating layer of aggregate, followed by a layer of Stratec G40PP-LA suited to the 125mm aggregate. 500mm of aggregate was laid followed by a layer of Stratec N1500 Geotextile and a layer of Stratec G30PP Geogrid. A further 300mm of modified Type 1 was incorporated giving a finished road depth of 800mm. Geosynthetics G40PP-LA - 20,000m 2 G30PP - 17,000m 2 N ,000m 2 Large Apperture G30PP-LA 30kN tensile strength Large Apperture Geogrid. Stability for larger aggregate. G40PP-LA 40kN tensile strength Large Apperture Geogrid for demanding applications.
Stratec Geogrid Composites Geogrid Composites. Reinforcement / Load Transfer / Separation Stratec Geogrid Composite is a Polypropylene extruded biaxial geogrid with a Non-Woven Needlepunched Geotextile bonded to one side. Both items are fully CE marked and manufactured to ISO 9001 standards. The construction of Stratec Geogrid Composite gives it many uses in civil engineering applications for stabilising weak ground and providing separation all in a single product. This product can save contractors a lot of time by reducing the need to lay multiple products thus resulting in quicker installation. Typical applications Haul Roads Windfarms Substations Piling Platforms Hard Standings Carparks Standard Apperture G30PP-GC 30kN tensile strength Geogrid / Geotextile composite widely used in both reinforcement and separation applications to reduce labour time installing both Geotextile and Geogrid.
Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering Case Study South Aberdeen School This new large school was to be constructed on an area of exceptionally weak ground predominantly made up of thick peat that had to be excavated. The contractor was using a sacrificial layer of 500mm large aggregate up to 1m deep to provide the base platform. They then had to build up with a further 500mm of 125mm aggregate to provide the finished surface for building to commence. Due to the natural voids created by the larger aggregate there was a risk of migrating fines from the smaller aggregate that could potentially destabilise the finished levels. Swiftec proposed the use of Stratec G30PP-GC a Geogrid and Geotextile Composite to provide both Reinforcement to the 125mm aggregate and Separation against the migration of fines. This provided the platform strength the Main Contractor was looking for. Main Contractor Balfour Beatty Geosynthetics Stratec G30PP-GC Geogrid Composite 36,000m 2
Stratec Non-woven Geotextiles Non-woven Geotextiles. Separation / Filtration / Protection The Stratec range of Non-Woven Needlepunched Geotextiles are manufactured to exacting standards and are fully CE marked and manufactured to ISO 9001 standards. Stratec Non-Woven Geotextiles are manufactured from polypropylene fibre and constructed in a way that results in small pore sizes and high permeability, to maximise drainage capacity whilst preventing migration of fines. The Stratec range of Non- Woven geotextile is very far reaching which enables us to cater for all applications such as Drainage, Membrane Protection through to heavy weight materials for Coastal Defence applications. Typical applications Carparks Coastal Defence Motorways Temporary Roads Hard Standings Premium Grade N1500 Our most popular all-round separation and filtration Geotextile. 11 Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering Case Study Peckfield Landfill Site Swiftec Group were called on to supply a high strength Non-Woven protection Geotextile for the Peckfield Landfill Site in Leeds. This project had very fast timescales to work to and we were able to respond promptly and to the client s project timescales with a High Strength material. The product proposed was our N6000 Needlepunched Protection Geotextile which had a weight of 500gsm. Approximately 10,000m 2 of this material was installed directly above the Geomembrane prior to the final capping material. Geosynthetics N6000 Geotextile 10,000m 2 Heavy Grade Stratec offers a wide range of heavy grade Non-Woven Geotextiles for use in applications such as coastal defence, marine and river erosion protection, landfill capping and many more equally demanding environments. Other grades available on request.
Stratec Woven Geotextiles Woven Geotextiles. Separation / Reinforcement / Filtration Stratec Woven Geotextiles are manufactured from extruded polypropylene tapes with a series of openings to form a fabric which will allow the transmission of water whilst forming a strong durable geotextile with high tensile strengths. The Stratec range of woven geotextiles offers lightweight fabrics for basic separation functions through to high strength products which offer cost effective solutions for reinforcement applications. All of our woven geotextiles are manufactured to exacting standards and are fully CE Approved. We also offer very high strength polyester woven geotextiles which have more resilience to high strains and are used extensively for capping weak deposits and areas of high risk. Typical applications Haul Roads Windfarms Substations Piling Platforms Hard Standings Carparks Premium Grade W1500 Our most popular low-priced Woven Geotextile for separation and reinforcement in general over-site applications.
Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering Case Study Hanson Brickworks Measham There was a requirement on this project to supply a medium strength Geotextile as ground conditions were challenging and the proposed loadings were higher than normal. The client was looking for both separation and reinforcement in a single product. Stratec W3000 Woven Polypropylene Geotextile was proposed to provide the strength required for this Brickworks. Approximately 30,000m 2 of Stratec W3000 was installed to the client s satisfaction providing a firm platform designed for the years to come. Geosynthetics W3000 Geotextile 30,000m 2 Heavy Grade Stratec offers a range of high strength Woven polypropylene and polyester Geotextiles. Heavy grade wovens are used in more demanding applications for separation and reinforcement and are available in tensile strengths up to 1000kN.
Stratec Geocell Geocell. Erosion Control / Stabilisation / Load Transfer Stratec Geocell is used extensively for embankment stabilisation. Often in projects with large volumes of cut and steep banks it is difficult to re-establish natural growth as retaining top soil is difficult and prone to erosion by heavy rainfall. Stratec Geocell prevents that by providing a simple method of retaining soil or aggregates. Stratec Geocell has perforated walls which prevent hydrostatic build up, enhancing the product performance. Geocell is also used extensively for tree root protection. There is often a requirement to construct roads and footpaths in amongst and close to well established trees. In order to provide sufficient load spread and prevent damage to tree roots Stratec Geocell is widely specified to provide this protection often in no dig situations. Typical applications Tree Root Protection Residential Infrastructure Projects Geocells Embankment Stabilisation Commercial Geocell mm deep cellular confinement largely used for embankments and root protection. Geocell mm deep cellular confinement for more demanding applications. Geocell mm deep cellular confinement for more fill retention.
Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering Case Study British Sugar Factory Newark There were several Thick Sugar Juice Tanks on this project that to comply with requirements had to have a secondary containment bund around the perimeter of the site to contain the Sugar Juice should the tanks burst. A secondary containment bund had to be lined with an impermeable membrane to ensure there was no leakage should this unlikely event take place. Simply soiling over the membrane was not a viable option as this was likely to wash away very quickly with rainfall and natural erosion. Swiftec proposed the use of our 100mm deep Geocell Cellular Confinement System to retain the soil on the embankment and give the membrane adequate protection. Geosynthetics Stratec Geocell 100 2,520m 2 Accessories A range of standard and heavy duty fixing pins to retain the Geocell on embankments and open the cells in horizontal applications. Other fixing products available on request.
Stratec Silt Fence Silt Fence. Erosion Control / Filtration Stratec range of silt fencing is the answer for effective silt control and pollution prevention on construction sites. Stratec Silt Fencing is used extensively on construction projects particularly in environmentally sensitive areas such as near rivers, streams and lakes. During construction works and particularly in areas of exposed ground there is a high risk of silt run-off caused by weather erosion. Often in periods of high rainfall the run off can be extensive and this carries with it huge amounts of silt and other site debris from the exposed ground. If uncontrolled this can result in contamination to surrounding land, rivers and streams which can potentially result in costly fines from environmental damage. Typical applications Haul Roads Windfarms Substations Piling Platforms Hard Standings Motorways Silt Fence Stratec Premium Silt Fence is widely used in general site applications where silt run-off is a major environmental concern. Available in rolls 0.75m x 100m for fast coverage of high risk pollution to water courses and lakes.
Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering Case Study M8, M73, M74 Motorway Improvements The M8, M73, M74 Motorway Improvements project is a major transport infrastructure project in one of Scotland s busiest hubs. The M8, M73, M74 Motorway Improvements project is a major transport infrastructure project in one of Scotland s busiest hubs. Ferrovial Lagan JV was faced with many areas of potential silt run off caused by stormwater and inclement weather. To satisfy the Environment Agency requirements and prevent potentially costly fines they had to install silt fencing in high risk areas. Over 10km of Stratec Premium grade Silt Fencing was installed to provide cover against silt runoff. Main Contractor Ferrovial/Lagan JV Geosynthetics Stratec Premium Silt Fence 10,000Lm
Stratec Liners Liners. Containment / Barrier Liners provide an impervious barrier between dissimilar substrates. Our vast range of liners are used extensively in Lagoons, Ponds, Landfill and other similar applications. HDPE Liner is a High Density Polyethylene membrane providing a robust more rigid material for use in demanding applications. LLDPE Liner is a Low Linier Density Polyethylene membrane providing more flexibility for use in projects with more intricate detail where flexibility is key. Typical applications Lagoons Reedbeds Landfill Ponds Attenuation The Stratec range of Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCL) are made up as a composite material constructed from a Woven Geotextile and a Non-Woven Geotextile with a layer of Sodium Bentonite Granules trapped between the two layers. This is then woven together to create a single composite product. Sodium Bentonite swells and seals when in contact with moisture and can provide an easy to install waterproof lining with no welding required. Stratec can also pre-fabricate liners for Attenuation systems to saving time and money on site. Liners HDPE High Density Polyethylene Geomembranes available from 0.75mm to 2.5mm. LLDPE Low Linier Density Polyethylene Geomembranes available from 0.75mm to 1.5mm. GCL Wide range of varying density sodium bentonite clay liners.
Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering Case Study Blackhillock Substation BAM Nuttall were faced with the task of excavating and lining two storm water/firewater ponds each were approximately 3000m 2. The specified product was a Butyl liner accompanied by protection geotextiles. Swiftec Group proposed a Stratec 1mm LLDPE Geomembrane that provided the contractor with a flexible yet far more robust membrane for the pond linings. We also supplied a High Strength Protection underlay and overlay geotextile to give adequate protection from puncture to the liner. Geosynthetics 1mm LLDPE Geomembrane 6,000m 2 N4400 Geotextile 12,000m 2 Attenuation Tanks Storm Water Attenuation A selection of impermeable membranes including hydrocarbon and stormwater barriers. Attenuation membranes can be delivered to site pre-formed and welded to suit your specific project requirements.
Stratec Erosion Control Erosion Control. Stabilisation / Erosion Control Erosion control products consist of a whole variety of purpose designed solutions for the prevention of erosion on embankments and other areas. These include Jute mesh which is a lightweight general cover mesh to assist in growth in low risk areas. Coir Matting is a more robust long life material used for more demanding applications such as close to water courses with high velocity and areas of high erosion risk. Coir matting is available in various grades and will degrade over an extended period of time. Typical applications Embankments Rivers Lakes Landfill Infrastructure Bio-Blankets are available in both plain and pre-seeded variations for immediate protection against erosion until vegetation is established. These blankets are 100% biodegradable with a mix of Coir and/or straw within the product makeup. There is a wide range of seed mixes available within the pre-seeded options. Permanent Erosion mat is a 3-dimensional matrix of closely packed fibres that are bonded together to create a tough durable permanent erosion solution. This matting is used alongside watercourses and on embankments where a small layer of soil retention is required. Biodegradable Jute Lightweight biodegradable mesh for general site applications. Coir Heavier biodegradable mesh available in 400, 700 and 900gsm weights. Pre-seeded Straw and coir erosion control blankets pre-seeded for rapid growth and embankment stabilisation.
Geosynthetics for Earth Engineering Case Study South Cathkin Landfill Site The South Cathkin Landfill Site covers an area of 144 hectares located close to East Kilbride. Due to high levels of silt on site there was a requirement to line the embankments of each of these ponds with a bio-degradable erosion matting to ensure further silting of ponds was reduced and encourage rapid growth prior to winter. Stratec 100% Straw Pre-Seeded Biodegradable Erosion Blanket was supplied giving an approximate 12 month degrade life time. Stratec Pre-seeded matting is constructed of a layer of Straw with Bio-degradable netting with a further carrier paper pre-impregnated with the relevant seed mix.
