5 Product Features 2 Excellent Drainage Pavement made by pavers have crevice which put the water back into the ground. The sand bed underneath provides excellent drainage & eliminates water logging therefore water does not accumulate on interlocking paver pavements. Stops fire / Spills from spreading The crevices in the pavement curtails fires and spills to where ever they start due to spillage getting soaked into the crevices and high fire rating of concrete interlocking blocks. 6 3 Product Features High strength and durability Pavers have a Compressive strength of 250 Kgs/Sq.Cm and above therefore they are extremely durable and long lasting. Load transfer Pavers have a unique ability to transfer vertical loads from unit to unit. Sand joints between the pavers transfer loads through shear, thereby spreading loads over a large area and reducing stress to the subbase. Transfer of loads through joints enables pavement to act as a flexible interlocking systems, rather than a loose collection of units and thus a suitable replacement of reinforced concrete or asphalt. 44 41 Pavers Installation 1. Pavement Cross Section Pavement cross section is the basic idea about the construction details about the components of pavement. It involves Edge restrain (to limit the pavement area), Jointing stand (to stabilize the pavers), Pavers (for construction), Bedding course, Course granular base and Existing subgrade. Installation of paving stones is very simple and gives lasting area that can be removed and relaici at a later date if repair is necessary or to accommodate service lines without usual ugly scars is now common with concrete or asphalt monolithic surfacing. 2. Prepare the base A good base is the essential requirement for a durable job. Special care should be taken in preparing the base to assure a permanent installation. The depth of the base will be determined by the load factor and the condition of the soil. The first step is to take your completed design and transfer it onto the ground where you will be installing your patio. You can use spraypaint to mark the outline, using a garden hose for guidance on the curved areas and long boards for the straight areas. 3. Exacavate Using your grid work of stakes and guide strings, excavate material below the string lines to the depth needed. For a Patio, or sidewalk around the home, a 4" to 6" (10 to 15cm) depth is usually sufficient. This should be a sharp concrete sand, stone dust or limestone screeing.

45 Pavers Installation Spread Granular base For driveways a 6" to 10" (15 to 26cm) gravel base should be well compacted in layers of approximately 8" (20 cm) with a vibrating type compactor. This should consist of a good Grade 'A1 road gravel with particles upto 3/4" (2 cm).this should then be covered with 1" to 2" (2.5 cm to 5 cm) of sharp sand, stone dust or limestone screenings and screeded level but not compacted Remember there is no definite rule of depth, but the above suggestions will help as a guide or consult to Krishna. You are now ready to spread and compact the coarse granular base. 5. Compact the base The granular base should be leveled and compacted (use a plate compactor) in layers. Make sure the base is level and conforms to the shape and elevation of the finished job by measuring down from the string lines you have established on the stakes. 6. Leveling the Base This is an important step in your installation to achieve a good level job when finished. You must make sure the base is leveled properly. Generally the most popular method of leveling is with a skreed which is usually a long 2"x6" board. It is very important that the board is straight, not warped or twisted. Although for larger commercial Jobs skreeding bars or pipes may be used. A frame is required to maintain the base. This could be Krishna Pavers for added strength and beauty or simply the surrounding soil or a wooden frame. The leveling of this frame will indicate the level of your area.

46 43 Pavers Installation 7. Placing Paving Stones Stones should be placed in the desired pattern close together. The spaces between stones should not exceed 1/8" (3 mm) The spacing should be consistant. This will help maintain a uniform pattern. When laying each row the installer should stand on the previously laid stones cutting of stones where necessary can be done with a splitter chisel or masonry saw as required. 8. Compact the pavement Sweep off the surface completely and use the plate compactor to tamp the pavers to a uniform level. Run the compactor in a parallel direction across the pavers, overlapping on each pass. Make a second series of passes in a perpendicular direction. 9. Spread Sand Sweep concrete sand or polymeric sand (do not use masonry or fine sand) into all spaces between the finished pavers, repeating the process until all joints between the pavers are filled. Repeat this process with more dry sand in a few days.
