Electric flexible cables with solid extruded dielectric insulation Part 4: Rubber-insulated cables for domestic, office and similar environments (cords) 1 Scope 1.1 This part of SANS 1574 specifies requirements for single-core and multi-core flexible rubberinsulated cords of rated operating voltages up to and including 300 V to earth and 500 V between conductors, intended for use with electrical appliances. Insulating and sheathing materials of rubber are also covered. 1.2 This part of SANS 1574 covers requirements for the following types of rubber-insulated cord: a) type R1: normal duty, with individually braided cores, 300/300 V; b) type R2: normal duty, braided overall, heat-resistant cores, 300/300 V (H03RT-F); c) type R3: normal duty, sheathed cores, 300/500 V (H05RR-F and H05RN-F); d) type R4: normal duty, braided and rubber-sheathed, unkinkable, heat-resistant cords, 300/500 V; e) type R5: normal duty, braided overall, heat-resistant, single-core and twisted two-core cords 300/500 V (H05SJ-K); f) type R6: normal duty, HOFR-sheathed, heat-resistant cords, 300/500 V; g) type R7: normal duty, silicone-rubber-insulated, sheathed, heat-resistant cords, 300/500 V (H05SS-F). h) type R8: light duty, silicone-rubber-insulated, heat-resistant, single-core cords 300/300 V (H03S-F); and i) type R9: light duty, silicone-rubber-insulated, heat-resistant, single-core cords 300/500 V (H05S-F). NOTE 1 Requirements to be specified by the purchaser are listed in annex A. NOTE 2 A guide to the use of insulated flexible cords is given in annex B. NOTE 3 A system for the designation of harmonized cables and cords is given in annex C. 3
