The California Building Standards Code is maintained by the California Building Standards Commission (www.bsc.ca.gov) and contains the codes and laws that regulate the construction of all buildings and structures in the State of California. The CBSC is Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR) and consists of eleven parts: Six (6) parts are authored by the State of California and five (5) parts are based on model codes that are authored by various model code writing bodies. The new 2010 California Building Standards Code includes: Part 2, 2010 California Building Code (CBC) which is based on the 2009 International Building Code (IBC) published by the International Code Council (ICC). Part 2.5 2010 California Residential Code (CRC) which is based on the 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) published by the International Code Council (ICC). Part 3, 2010 California Electrical Code (CEC), which is based on the 2008 National Electrical Code (NEC) published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). January 2011 APMC Newsletter Page 1

Part 4, 2010 California Mechanical Code (CMC) which is based on the 2009 Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) published by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). Part 5, 2010 California Plumbing Code (CPC), which is based on the 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) published by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). Part 6, 2010 California Energy Code (CEC), which is written by the California Energy Commission (CEC), and published by the California Building Standards Commission. Part 9, 2010 California Fire Code (CFC), which is based on the 2009 International Fire Code (IFC) published by the International Code Council (ICC). Part 11, 2010 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) published by the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC). In compliance with State law, the California Building Standards Code is revised and updated every three years. CSLB Clarifies Fire Protection Contractor Requirements Beginning January 1, 2011, an automatic fire sprinkler system will be mandatory in all new one and two-family dwellings throughout the state. In line with the 2009 International Building, Fire and Residential Code, this change comes from modifications to the California Building Code through the State Building Standards Commission. All contractors need to be aware that according to the Contractor State Licensing Board, only the C-16 Fire Protection classification is legally permitted to lay out, fabricate or install fire protection systems. Other trades can provide work up to the fire protection system only, regardless of whether the fire protection system is combined or stand-alone. Contractor State Licensing Board regulations state that a fire protection contractor lays out, fabricates and installs all types of fire protection systems; including all the equipment associated with these systems, excluding electrical alarm systems. The new fire sprinkler system requirement does not apply to home remodels, only new construction. L & H Airco Moves Into New Facility L&H Airco, a Northern California based installer of Energy Management Systems, announced it has completed moving their main office from leased space in Roseville, CA to a renovated building they purchased in Rocklin, CA at 2530 Warren Drive. The interior of the 10 year old building was completely rebuilt and provides increased communication among departments and an increase in productivity while reducing energy costs. We were fortunate to find a great building so close to our former office. Our goal was to become more streamlined and efficient with a limited impact on our customers and employees. I don t think we could have found a better location for our team. Although the address changed, all of our phone numbers will remain the same, plus we have added direct dial numbers for all our sales engineers, said Frank Wegener, L&H Airco s President. Employing energy savings technologies, L&H Airco expects to save 32% of its former energy usage per square foot by installing an Advanced Lighting Control System which utilizes dimmable ballasts, day lighting, and motion switches and through the use of innovative BACnet control strategies to optimize A/C unit usage while maintaining employee comfort. For more information call 916-677-1000, visit their website at http://www.lhairco.com, or send an E mail to sales@lhairco.com. Outlook Running Slow? Tips to Keep it Clean. Is your Outlook fast enough for you? When searching for an e-mail you sent or deleted, does this take f-o-r-e-v-e-r? We have some simple, but significant tips to share with you to speed up your Outlook and control your data sizes. From your perspective, you probably view Outlook as a program that opens when you click on it, and inside there are folders for Inbox, Sent items and Deleted items. What you may not know is all of these e-mails combined make up a single large file on your computer probably the largest file that exists on your system. This makes it easier to back up but tougher to manage. In Outlook 2002 and prior, the maximum size for this file was 2GB. In Office 2003 and 2007 this was more tolerable: up to 6GB, but even this was a struggle. Now in 2010, the size is unlimited. We all love that word unlimited but that also means more areas for computer users to slack in keeping their data tidy. Follow these simple steps to keep your Outlook manageable: 1. Open your Sent Items, and in the upper right click on Size to sort all your e-mails by Size. For anything 1MB and higher, determine if you need to keep and delete them if not. More than likely if you attached something to an outgoing message you already have this file saved elsewhere. 2. Open your Deleted Items, also sort by Size and delete anything over 1MB. This step will ask if you want to Permanently Delete. Choose YES. 3. Re-sort both your Sent and Deleted Items by clicking Received or Sent to sort by date. 4. Click Tools Options Mail Setup Data files Select your data file and choose Settings Compact Now. This process can take minutes or hours depending on your e-mails. When it s complete, close your Outlook. Information Courtesy of Steven Walker, FastBreak Tech, (916) 247-2500. APMC Welcomes Paramount Sales, Inc.
