They provide recreational and competitive opportunities, gathering spaces for families and friends and a sense of pride; but planning, designing and building them can be an arduous undertaking. At ISG, our multi-disciplinary team has helped a wide variety of clients through this complex process. From evaluating needs and funding sources, navigating code and regulatory requirements, to design and ultimately on time/on budget construction, we have the design and engineering expertise you need to ensure the final product is safe, economical and exceeds the expectations of each user. We work collaboratively with our clients, partners and stakeholders to understand their individual needs, constraints and desires. Whether it be new construction or renovation of existing water facilities including recreational and competitive pools, aquatic centers, bathhouses or water features, we use our exposure to the latest products, trends and knowledge of effective construction technologies to provide innovative and efficient solutions that are practical and functional, yet aesthetically pleasing.
CHEROKEE AQUATIC CENTER Cherokee, IA Cherokee s swimming facility was nearly half a century old and needed to be upgraded if it was to remain in service. After careful evaluation, the community s recommendation included the complete removal of the old pool and bathhouse, and the construction of a new facility that was much larger than the previous complex and required extensive reshaping of the 8.2 acre park. In addition to the new pool facility, reconstruction also provided new walking trails, observation areas and a shelter and stage for picnics and concerts. The new complex is extremely successful and draws many more recreational users. As a result, revenue as well as community pride has increased dramatically.
CLARION AQUATIC CENTER Clarion, IA This unique reconstruction of the City of Clarion s 1938 swimming pool saved over $1 million and satisfied the city s needs. The pool s shallow end was demolished and replaced with a zero depth entry and plunge area for two water slides. ISG s design provided a peninsula to separate the shallow area from the rest of the pool, where the 12 foot depth deep-end diving boards were moved and two fast-drop slides were added. The existing 1938 bathhouse was replaced and now includes handicap accessibility and many modern amenities. The revisions added an additional 20 years to the life of the dated facility and attendance has soared as community members enjoy their new aquatic center. HILTON GARDEN INN This nine-story, 118 room hotel creates an upscale urban hospitality setting that features wonderful amenities and a convenient location in the heart of downtown Mankato. One of those amenities is the custom indoor pool and spa, located on the main, street level of the property, which was designed to meet the Hilton Garden Inn Urban Design protocol building standards and requirements. ISG also designed beautiful expansive windows that surround the pool area to bring natural light throughout the space and provide views to the historic structures and landscaping along Riverfront Drive and Hickory Street. ISG was involved in all aspects of the layout and design, as well as coordination with the pool contractor to ensure our client met all of the Hilton Garden Inn requirements.

ISG also designed a hospitality deck over the top of the existing pool house building, which overlooks the pool and offers stunning views of the Minnesota River valley. The addition of this deck also provides the Mankato Golf Club another hospitality venue for member use and other catered outdoor events. In addition to the pool and reception area, ISG has provided design services for many other projects at the Mankato Golf Club including grounds and landscaping enhancements, parking lot, road and lighting improvements and renovations to the club house facility. MANKATO FAMILY YMCA ISG designed a pair of renovation projects for the Mankato Family YMCA that were realized in 2001 and 2012. The former was a $4.8 million, 30,000 square foot project that transformed the aging YMCA into a state-of-the-art facility. The centerpiece of the project was the Taylor Family Aquatic Center, which included the renovation of an existing four-lane lap pool and the incorporation of a new two-story family friendly aquatic center with slides and stationary pool toys. The 2012 renovation included a reconfiguration of the locker room facilities and main lobby. The size of the new family locker area more than doubled and was relocated closer to both the HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS HOTEL & SUITES main entry and the aquatic center. This five-story, 88-guest room hotel hosts many cutting edge features, including the indoor swimming pool, wading pool and whirlpool area. Reduced operational costs and added guest comfort were the goal in installing a pool dehumidifier using reactivation technology instead of refrigeration. This method provides more accurate humidity control and a higher reduction in energy consumption than a conventional system. In addition, energy recovery units provide guest rooms with fresher air, while improving efficiencies in ventilation and exhaust systems that resulted in a 70 percent reduction in energy consumption. CLEAR LAKE AQUATIC CENTER Clear Lake, IA The community of Clear Lake had always relied on their city s namesake for their water recreation, but due to public demand, the city began investigating the feasibility of a community swimming pool. After two failed bond issues for a highly priced project, Clear Lake hired ISG to propose a more economical solution. A family aquatic center on city property, formerly used as their public works headquarters, was designed and proposed by ISG. The result was the passage of a third bond issue and the pool was opened in the summer of 2007. Attendance has shown the great need for an alternative to lake activities and the aquatic center has provided another amenity for Clear Lake s tourist draw.
MONROE COUNTY AQUATIC CENTER Albia, IA A community-wide effort for a modernized swimming pool prompted the city to commission ISG to study the condition of the outdated pool and to recommend upgrades that would comply with Department of Health regulations. The resulting aquatic center not only provided a more safe, efficient and quality experience for community members, but also created a competitive recreation destination for the region. The center includes a zero depth entry area, two water slides, eight water activity units, a train slide, a spacious sundeck with chairs and sunshades, six regulation lap lanes, two diving boards and concessions.
