D E Installation Instructions Air Duct Smoke Housing

D Installation Instructions.0 Overview. Trademarks ational Fire Alarm Code is a trademark of the ational Fire Protection Association, Inc. ife Safety Code is a trademark of the ational Fire Protection Association, Inc..0 Overview The D Mux Air Duct Smoke Detector Housing is designed to mount on the ducts of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems for monitoring the presence of smoke in the conditioned air. The D is used with the D00DH Mux Photoelectric Smoke Detector (provided separately). This detector uses an efficient housing design to sample the air passing through a duct to detect a potentially hazardous condition. When smoke is detected, an alarm signal is sent to the control panel initiating the necessary action to shut off fans and blowers or change to other air handling systems. The D operates on the multiplex (mux) bus and a VDC or VAC external supply. One alarm Form A relay is for the control panel interface. Two auxiliary Form C relay contacts are for other functions such as fan shut down. Test the system by placing an external magnet on the D, or switching a signal from a remote test station. You can reset the system by pushing the eset button on the control panel and momentarily removing power on the external supply. Install the D according to: FPA 90A, Standard for the Installation of Air Conditioning and Ventilating Systems FPA, ational Fire Alarm Code FPA 0, ife Safety Code Any applicable local and state codes The local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).0 Description The D is a four-wire, mux detector housing that requires VDC or VAC external power and detector head. D Installation Instructions.0 Assembly.0 Assembly The D includes: One housing, power card, and cover assembly Two #0- x in. machine screws for mounting Two #0- jack nuts One exhaust tube Two tube clamps with four screws Two foam gaskets Two air filters One drilling template One cover gasket One head and / ft (. cm) sample tube.0 Sample Tubes Sample tubes should extend across the duct width. The sample tube sizes are: D-.: / ft (. cm) D-: ft (9. cm) D-: ft (. m) Sample tubes include an end plug that must be installed in the narrow end (refer to Figure ). Figure : DS9-. Sample Tube - Set screw - End plug You can combine or cut sample tubes to make different lengths. A sample tube can be a maximum length of 0 ft (.0 m) and a minimum length of ft (0. cm). For example, you can combine a ft (9. cm) and a ft (. m) to make an ft (. m) sample tube. To combine sample tubes:. emove the roll pin and set screw from one of the sample tubes.. emove the end cap from the other sample tube.. Push the flared end over the sample tube you want to lengthen.. Align the holes, insert the set screw, and reinstall the end plug. If you want a ft (. m) sample tube, combine a ft (9. cm) and a ft (. m) sample tube. Then cut ft (0. cm) from the narrow end to get the necessary length. Bosch Security Systems, Inc. 9/0 99G

. D Installation Instructions.0 Mounting Sample tubes must have at least twelve holes within the duct. Do not cut a sample tube so there are less than twelve holes. If more than twelve holes are exposed within the duct, cover these extra holes with duct tape. Use even spacing when covering the holes for an even air sample across the duct. Support sample tubes longer than ft (9. cm) at the end opposite the duct detector. Ensure the hole is in. to in. (. cm to cm) beneath the entry hole for possible moisture drainage (refer to Figure ). Seal the gap between the duct and sample tube. Figure : Support Hole Position.0 Mounting. Duct Preparation. ocation Verify the duct air flow and velocity. The D is designed for use in air handling systems with air velocities between 00 ft/min and 000 ft/min (. m/s and 0. m/s). Check the HVAC engineering specifications to ensure the air velocity in the duct is within these parameters. If necessary, use a velocity meter to check the air velocity in the duct. To get a representative air sample, avoid stratification and dead air space. These conditions can be caused by return duct openings, sharp turns, connections, or long, uninterrupted runs. Place the detectors between six times and ten times the width of the duct from any uninterrupted run. Figure shows the typical D placement. - in. to in. (. cm to cm) Figure : Typical Duct Detector Placement You can remove up to in. ( cm) from the D-. sample tube for ft (0. cm) duct installations. For example: If you use the D-. Sample Tube (refer to Figure ) in installations where the duct width is between in. (0. cm) and in. (. cm), cover some of the holes. There are nineteen holes in the D-., but only twelve are needed for normal installations. Figure : D-. If the problems continue, replace the affected detector with a known good one. This determines if the problem is caused by the detector or the housing.. When the system is free of alarms, check each detector to ensure the red ED indicator flashes approximately every seconds for the D00DH.
