Movement & pause the multilayered, fragmented Trianglen station TOWARDS CITY CENTRE THE LIVING KNOT FUTURE MALMÖ CONNECTIONS trianglen is the new main underground train gateway to the greater Öresundregion to be finished in 2011. It will be the main transportation hub for a greater area of Malmö, including the stretch between Rosengård and Möllevangstorget and thus becoming a possibility of integrating Rosengård with the rest of the city. Today the place itself of the future southern entrance of the underground station displays a TOWARDS PARK space turning its back towards the surrounding areas of the city. The central position is not visible as the surrounding buildings all turn their entrances away from the open field and no good connections to the surrounding Möllevangstorget, the university hospital and Pilgrimsparken are existing. This situation has to be changed as the station is growing into a central hub for the greater surrounding area and thus the future entrance with its surrounding buildings needs to be able to handle the amount of people to come. My project deals with this situation and gives one answer to the question on how to turn life towards the new trainstation from the surrounding area and thus gives an example on how to deal with the people, through densifying the open place by introducing an urban environment. JESUS PARK activation of space seperation from road introduce bikepath, narrow roads and change ground plan to slow traffic CHILDRENS PARK the residential s meetingpedestrian & bike friendly space trees THE PARK night & day activity family attractions THE BARRIER several penetrations ROSENGÅRD the multicultural heart of Malmö with attractions for everyone MÖLLEVANGSTORGET urban loungeroom more public sitting space TOWARDS HOSPITAL ECOLOGICAL PARK watertreatment MIXED USE ZONES workshops bazaar various meeting spaces nodes that need to be changed to strengthen the stretch between trianglen station and rosengård INDUSTRIAL AREA HOUSING HOUSING / COMMERCE initail ideas: PUBLIC BUILDINGS / INSTITUTIONS create a space for a demografic diversity turn the place inside-out, unfolding the box MÖLLEVÅNGSTORGET MARKET PLACE -successful gathering space FUTURE TRAIN STATION -greater detail to comforta-how to connect to local area and beyond? bility needed JESUS PARK -important connecting node -how can this point be transferred into an area of interest and greater use intensity? CHURCH -blocks access to park beyond -fence line destroys permeability of overall axis of site KEBAP SHOP -creates informal meeting place -appropriation of public space for commerce RAILWAY OVERPASS -a point of huge potential future change

The meeting point for local and global users. A space for pause and movement 360 view local site identiity how to activate trianglen? the 3 main areas of change three areas of focus are essential to deal with the flow of people. There is a need to establish new paths and redesign the use of streets, giving more room for the pedestrians and bikes as the main commuters and users of the train. - how to create and strenghten new pathways underlining the fragmentet urban fabric? - how to handle people and transportation? connections to the surrounding area towards the new and growing station is needed to enhance public life. Buildings have to open up their facades and entrances, especially on the groundfloor and include the spaces in the street. - defining private/semi-private/semi-public/publich spaces... - how to open up, intensify and activate the connection - where to place entrances? orientation of surrounding buildings and surrounding spaces needs to be activated. There is a need to densify the area and introduce a variety of public functions to be able to serve the whole range of global & local users. The inside space should give room for both movement & pause. - how to reach out vertically and horizontally? - how to give the station a human scale and a room for experimentation? - how to create a station for both movement & pause? - how to create a space for both passer-bys and inhabitants? the new inner space of the station establish new connections to surrounding reinforce penetration to the connecting create an environment inside and outside areas buildings the new station with multiple layers of use & spaces

axonometric projecton existing functions and connections the new urban fabric around the station entrance high school pilgrimsparken high school dwellings university hospital the multilayered fragmented station interventions in the environment and how they influence urban living in existing buildings - the station as a fragmentet urban fabric playing with inside/outside spaces, gathering and spreading the different movements and connections to the surrounding areas open up the facades - changing the grain size of dwellings into a variety of sizes with different facade appearances - implement balconies and roof terraces in new building - introduce green walls and roofs - open up the entire groundfloor for a variety of small mixed public uses change the street environment - create a pedestrian and bike prioritized street with oneway car traffic as much as possible - introduce more mixed uses opposite existing dwellings and connect the street and the green space of the primary school - only slow traffic inside the pathwaysystem of the entranceblock dwellings dental university primary school möllevangstorget university hospital

block plan 1:1000 private entrance public entrance courtyard public path artifical landscape how dense can it be? In my proposal I am working with the environment people will enter, when leaving or entering the underground station. The first impressions when suddenly breathing the fresh air again strongly reveal the identity of the space. My question is, if entering a wide open place gives better opportunities for orientation or does this emphasize a feeling of being lost? In this case Trianglen is the most trafficated node to come, settled in an urban context, which gives opportunity for Malmö to densitfy around it, thus my proposal deals with the question of how dense the structure around the entrance really can be? bike/car lanes plan connection street section connection street
