CITYOF NEWCASTLE COUNCIL CHAMBERS JANUARY 10, 2012 PARKS COMMISSION CITY HALL 6:00PM SPECIALMEETING AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET TITLE:Stage Cover at Lake Adoption STAFF: Michael Holly Boren Park Recommendation PHONE: 425.649.4444 x 142 Approval Discussion PRESENTER: Michael Holly, information Parks Program Manager Other DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The City Council has adopted the 2012 Budget which includes the Capital Improvement Project (CIP) for the stage improvements and cover at Lake Boren Park. Currently it is planned that the stage will be demolished and replaced with a larger stage, most likely with a wood deck surface. Additionally, a cover will be placed over the stage to protect the surface from the elements, provide cover for entertainment during our Community Events without renting tents, reducing annual maintenance, and possibly have another space available for rental to the community. We would like the Park Commission's input on their preferred architecture for the stage cover. Examples of different stage covers will be presented to the Commission during the meeting. There is still a possibility that solar panels could be placed on the cover. Additionally, we would like the Commission s input on their preference to allow, or not allow, solar panels to be placed on this cover. However, it should be known that solar panels are not the driving force behind the decision to place a cover over the stage. RECOMMENDATION The Park Commission will answer the following questions: 1. Preferred style (architecture) of cover? 2. What type of material the cover be constructed from? 3. Preferred direction on solar panels?
