EU = You Citizen s engagement in the EU after the Treaty of Lisbon 3 rd - 7 th December Erfurt/Germany www.europe-is-you.org

THE PROJECT EU = You! Citizen engagement in the EU after the Treaty of Lisbon After the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon the EU is heading forward. More and more decisions move from a national to a European level. Besides those legal and political changes, it is important to develop a European consciousness in order to live and work in a globalised world and be not only a citizen but an active citizen. Unfortunately, the latest EU election in 2009 did not prove a high identification with the EU by many citizens, people living in European countries are quite far away from such consciousness. However, the Union depends on participation and needs a political and active citizen. The aims and objectives of the projects are therefore: fostering a sense of ownership of the EU among its citizens fostering actions, debates and reflection related to European citizenship, democracy and values through cooperation among civil society organisations bringing Europe closer to its citizens by dealing with relevant issues broach the issue of the Treaty of Lisbon and discuss the new constitution, its composition and implications critically - 1 -

THE PUBLIC CONFERENCE (EVENT #2) This public conference starts exactly two days after the first anniversary of the Treaty of Lisbon. The second activity supported by decision-makers, experts and the media will not only encourage the participants to think about the corresponding topics, the supreme aim is always to derive improvements for the practice of realizing citizens participation projects in the sense of the Citizens program of the European Commission. In addition the conference will also support the building of bridges between the participants and encouraging interaction between citizens and civil society organizations. The working language will be English. - 2 -
