Stone and scrap handling grab 1 Introduction 1.1 General This instruction manual provides relevant information on installation, handling and maintenance of the stone and scrap handling grab delivered by engcon. The safety information in this manual relates directly to the stone and scrap handling grab, and does not regard the base machine. In addition to this information, you should carefully read the safety information regarding the base machine and any other equipment you will be using. Do not attempt to install, use or perform maintenance on the stone and scrap handling grab before carefully reading all the information regarding the stone and scrap handling grab and base machine. Observe all safety instructions carefully. 1.2 Identification and marking of stone and scrap handling grab Check that the information in Certification of conformity corresponds to the information on the grab (Figure 1), and the documentation. In the event of deviations, contact your supplier before starting assembly. 1.3 Warning decals Figure 1 All the machine s instructions and decals must be clearly legible at all times. Contact your supplier to order new instructions and decals. 1.4 System description and application areas The stone and scrap handling grab is suitable for the sorting of waste, for instance in connection with demolition work. Please note that the stone and scrap handling grab s weight and the increased reach may lead to reduced stability, causing risk of damage and personal injury. Check your base machine manufacturer s recommendations when calculating the tipping load, and make sure you include the increased weight and reach caused by the stone and scrap handling grab in these calculations. 5

Instruction manual 2 Safety regulations 2.1 General This instruction manual contains several warning texts, which should be read carefully before assembling or using the stone and scrap handling grab. The warning texts explain potential risks and how to avoid them. If in any doubt, contact your employer or the supplier of the stone and scrap handling grab for further explanation of the warning texts. Remember: Sound judgment and thorough knowledge of your machinery reduces many unnecessary risks. Consequently, operators should take the time to learn correct use of the stone and scrap handling grab before starting operation. 2.2 Safety check list Do not attempt to install, use or perform maintenance on the stone and scrap handling grab before carefully reading all the information regarding the stone and scrap handling grab and the base machine. Observe all safety information carefully. Never use your hands to check for leaks in the hydraulic system. Hydraulic oil can penetrate your skin under pressure causing serious injury. The mountings are safety features and require regular inspection and adaptation. Check carefully for cracks. If in any doubt about the safety features, contact your dealer or engcon Nordic AB. The stone and scrap handling grab may only be used if correctly locked into place. Always check that the lock bolts have fully protruded according to the specifi cation for the relevant implement hitch. Faulty installation can be dangerous. If in any doubt about your knowledge or the equipment, contact your dealer or engcon Nordic AB. Ensure that the hydraulic system is decompressed before starting work on the system. Risk of personal injury. 6

Stone and scrap handling grab Defective or faulty machinery and/or equipment can cause harm to people, property or the environment. Make sure that the recommended servicing and maintenance are performed on the machine. Exceeding the recommended maximum capacity for the stone and scrap handling grab can damage the machine. Take care when handling long objects bacause of the extra forces generated by living weights and the increased risk area. Risk of personal injury or damage. Always get a good grip when lifting objects. Risk of personal injury or damage. Never try to upgrade the equipment s maximum capacity by making modifi cations not approved by the supplier. Replace damaged and/or illegible decals and warning signs before using the machine. Risk of personal injury. Risk of burn injuries from hot hydraulic oil. Risk of catching in moving parts. Stone and scrap handling grab 4 Assembly and installation Check that the necessary supplementary documentation is available before starting assembly. Your supplied stone and scrap handling grab and this supplementary documentation are adapted as closely as possible to your base machine. The following assembly and installation instructions apply if the stone and scrap handling grab is directly mounted. If the stone and scrap handling grab is mounted onto an implement hitch, you should use the base machine s manual for the connection of implements. 4.1 Connecting the stone and scrap handling grab Before starting assembly 1. Check the limits for tipping load, taking into account the stone and scrap handling grab s weight and the increased reach. Check the limits for tipping load when connecting the stone and scrap handling grab, to minimise risk of accidents. Faulty installation can be dangerous. If in any doubt about your knowledge or the equipment, contact your dealer or engcon Nordic AB. Risk of catching in moving parts. Risk of personal injury. Figure 2 2. Place the base machine and stone and scrap handling grab on a fl at, non-slip surface. Make sure the stone and scrap handling grab is standing straight and is aligned with the stick and dog bone (see Figure 2). 3. During installation, use a ladder or other equipment that does not cause risk of falling. 9

Instruction manual Assembly 1. Install the O rings (if using). 2. Position the dog bone so that it aligns with the appropriate holes in the upper part of the stone and scrap handling grab. 3. Adjust the width with shims if necessary. 4. Insert the supplied stub axle. Figure 3 4. Install the stub axle lock, making sure it locks completely. Figure 4 5. Position the stick so that it aligns with the appropriate holes in the upper part of the stone and scrap handling grab. 6. Lower the stick carefully, making sure there are no breaks. 7. Adjust the width with shims if necessary. 8. Insert the supplied stub axle. 9. Mount the stub axle lock, making sure it locks completely. See Figure 4. Figure 5 10 Faulty installation can be dangerous. If in any doubt about your knowledge or the equipment, contact your dealer or engcon Nordic AB.

Stone and scrap handling grab Installation of hydraulic tubes When installing the tubes, make sure that their length is correct. They should neither hang down too far or stretch when the stone and scrap handling grab is angled. 1. Cut the hydraulic tubes to a suitable length. 2. Mount the hydraulic tubes according to the enclosed hydraulic diagram. Ensure that the hydraulic system is decompressed before starting work on the system. Risk of personal injury. Perform a functional inspection Check that the stone and scrap handling grab opens and closes when the hydraulics are activated. Check that the tubes are not damaged by crushing or stretching. 11

Instruction manual 5 Handling The following instructions regard general handling. If your stone and scrap handling grab is equipped with a rotator, you will fi nd instructions for handling the rotator in the instruction manual for the tiltrotator/rotator. The stone and scrap handling grab is opened and closed using the ordinary controls in the base machine.
