PLAN ON A PAGE SUMMARY The Plan on a Page is a tool for the City of Bristol to engage Bristol s neighborhoods, community organizations, and interest groups to organize and build consensus around priorities. It is designed to help the neighborhoods, community organizations, and interest groups to get involved in the comprehensive planning process. A healthy community operates in four broad realms. These four realms include the economy, society, culture and the environment. Within each of these realms, there are concepts and themes that work collectively to support the four realms: A livable built environment Harmony with Nature A resilient economy Intentionally fair and open A healthy community Collaborative regionalism Within each of these themes, this Plan on a Page will also consider a variety of topics including: Land use Transportation Housing Parks and Open Space City Services Utilities Economic Development Urban Design What the Plan on a Page is: A tool to develop consensus on general issues that affect the City as a whole to influence City policy. What the Plan on a Page is not: A forum to develop recommendations for particular streets, intersections, or detailed issues faced by the community. With your help, each neighborhood, community organization or interest group will become involved in analyzing the broader neighborhood/group level issues, generating visions and developing plans.
PLAN ON A PAGE Plan on a Page is a tool designed to help neighborhoods, community organizations and interest groups organize themselves in order to build community and develop consensus around their priorities. Plan on a Page is also a way for neighborhoods, community organizations and interest groups to become involved in the creation of Bristol s Comprehensive Plan. To develop the Plan on a Page, answer the questions below. Please provide a roster of participants if this is a group effort or name and affiliation if an individual effort. SUMMARY (Use the spaces below or type and attach on a separate sheet) Neighborhood - Community Organization - Interest Group (circle one). Provide a short description of your neighborhood, organization or group and its history. Provide a short vision statement of where your neighborhood, community organization or interest group will be in 20 years.
A LIVABLE BUILT ENVIRONMENT The things that are most important to plan for in our neighborhood/group are: Locations of transit stops Multi-modal accessibility (transit, walking, biking) Land uses (i.e. where housing, retail, etc. are located) Housing Affordability Provision and location of affordable housing Development character Development density Location and access to open space Sustainability measures I think all of these issues should be addressed HARMONY WITH NATURE In thinking about Bristol s parks and open space in terms of our neighborhood/group: We would like more large City parks. We would like more small, neighborhood parks. We would like easier access to parks or open space (walkable, bikeable). We support having more greenways to connect the parks. I think all of these issues should be addressed. The parks and open space system is great. Don t change a thing.
A RESILIENT ECONOMY In considering the job market in Bristol: We need more opportunities for new graduates We need a more entrepreneurial environment We should provide expanded opportunities for a creative class (professional, knowledge based groups ie. software engineers, medical professionals, etc.) We need more, higher paying job opportunities We should work to build a drug-free, properly trained and educated workforce We should work with neighboring cities in creating more job opportunities We need to provide more technical training and education for a skilled workforce We have plenty of opportunities, don t change a thing Other, please explain below or attach on a separate sheet: INTENTIONALLY FAIR AND OPEN To encourage equity within and between neighborhoods, Bristol should: Foster a diverse mix of quality housing types within each neighborhood Promote more modes of transportation to mix of uses and social services Locate additional services in neighborhoods with limited mobility Ensure residents have access to public parks and open spaces Create streets that are friendly to pedestrians, cyclists, and transit Encourage and support entrepreneurship Foster a mix of generations within each neighborhood (new grads, established families, retirees, etc.) Other, please explain below or attach on a separate sheet:
HEALTHY COMMUNITY To encourage the health of our community at the neighborhood/group level, we should: Provide a safe place for our children Promote a more walkable environment with more sidewalks Promote access to local food / farmer s markets Have more destinations within walking distance COLLABORATIVE REGIONALISM In thinking about Bristol s role as a part of the Tri-Cities area and the connectivity at the neighborhood level: Connections to other places throughout the region via car is easy Connections to other places in the Tri-Cities via transit including buses, shuttles, NET Trans, Ride Share, etc. is easy Connections to other places in the Tri-Cities via bike is easy We should expand our connections to other places in the Tri-Cities via car We should expand our bikeable connections to the rest of the Tri-Cities with a larger regional greenway system We should expand our transit (buses, shuttles, NET Trans, Ride Share) to other places in the Tri-Cities area We don t need to worry about connecting to other places in the Tri-Cities
OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION Please share any other opportunities or issues that you can see at the neighborhood/ group level as it relates to the long range vision within the plan s themes.
