RESPONSABILITATEASOCIALA.RO Smithfield Ferme greenbelts around 11 farms This spring, the company involved its employees in planting of greenbelts around 11 of its farms. Smithfield Ferme announced that it has completed a series of 11 plantings in Timis and Arad Counties. 3 500 trees have been planted as part of this operation. Its objective was to achieve a series of greenbelts around Smithfield farms. We recall that these farms imply risks both for the environment and the health of neighboring communities. Through such gesture, the company ensures community residents that it manages the risks properly and constantly invests in their reduction. For two weeks, plantings were made by 40 company employees-volunteers together with pupils of communities in question. Plantings have been made under the aegis of the program Millions of People, Millions of Trees, launched in 2006 by PRAIS Foundation. Smithfield Ferme is the main sponsor and partner of the program. Within the four editions so far, the company has planted over 15 000 trees and it will continue the campaign this autumn as well. Bogdan Mihail, General Manager Smithfield Ferme, motivates his company s involvement in such activities: The environment and the care for it are by far one of our key concerns. It is a long term commitment that we took and we d like to be close to our employees families and other community residents, working together to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
