SPECIAL PLACES Gimli s Heritage Sites: Inventory Introduction Gimli s Community Heritage Site Inventory was carried out over the summer and fall of 2008. The project was directed by the Gimli Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee, with special assistance from Wally Johannson, Stefan Tergesen, Rick Lair and Andy Blicq. The project also relied on the advice of Mayor Tammy Axellson and CAO Joanne King. The actual work for the project was undertaken mostly by Wally Johannson, with some help from a Summer Student, Angela Sylvester. Funding for the project came from the Historic Resources Branch of Manitoba Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Tourism (with funding from the Federal Government s Historic Places Initiative). The following inventory entries are a synopsis of a more detailed inventory that is available for viewing at the municipal office. That more detailed product contains additional information on family histories. The entries presented here contain key information that allows for an easy review of this collection of sites. A map of Gimli is also included to assist in a review of sites. Please note that code numbers are only included for internal MHAC reference, and GPS readings are still being collected. This inventory is only Stage 1 of a set of inventories that the Gimli MHAC expects to undertake over a few years, with the focus here on sites in the former Town of Gimli, and especially on the cottage heritage in the northern parts of the community.

The Community Heritage Site Inventory, whose full contents are presented on the following pages, consists of the places listed below, organized according to building or site type: No. Name Address Type 183.A.1 Hangar Airport Government 183.K.1 Camp Morton 200-50 Road 116 North Camp 183.B.1 Lutheran Camp Chapel 19012 Siglavik Camp 183.C.1.A Dori Peterson House 91 5th House/Cottage 183.C.1.B Dori Peterson Net Shed 91 5th House/Cottage 183.C.2.A Haldor Peterson House 90 5th House/Cottage 183.C.2.B Haldor Peterson Shanty 90 5th House/Cottage 183.C.3 Thorson/Kristjanson House 32 Lake House/Cottage 183.C.4 HP Tergesen House 38 4th House/Cottage 183.C.5 House 37 4th House/Cottage 183.C.6 Tergesen Cottage 36 4th House/Cottage 183.C.7 Wigg Cottage 47 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.8 Johnson Cottage 80 Loni House/Cottage 183.C.9 Behaud Cottage 165 6th House/Cottage 183.C.10 Warters Cottage 10 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.11 House 23 3rd House/Cottage 183.C.12 Macklin Cottage 25 1st House/Cottage 183.C.13 House 27 1st House/Cottage 183.C.14 Seaforth Cottage 72 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.15 Hanford Cottage 43 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.16 House 118 3rd House/Cottage 183.C.17 Thorson/Blicq Cottage 50 4th House/Cottage 183.C.18 Cottage 33 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.19 Cottage 29 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.20 Bartlett Cottage 15 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.21 Maryville Cottage 12 6th House/Cottage 183.C.22 Matheson Cottage 104 Loni House/Cottage 183.C.23 Johnson House 12 6th House/Cottage 183.C.24 Bothildur s House 70 6th House/Cottage 183.C.25 Tergesen Cottage 56 Loni House/Cottage 183.C.26 Morrison Cottage 26 Vaughan House/Cottage 183.C.27 Olson House 129 3rd House/Cottage 183.C.28 Finnbogason Cottage 78 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.29 Erindale Cottage 21 3rd House/Cottage 183.C.30 Maddin Cottage 22 North Lake House/Cottage 183.C.31 Chitley Cottage 23 Vaughan House/Cottage 183.C.32 Doctor s Cottage 40 North Lake House/Cottage
