SPECIAL PLACES Gimli s Heritage Sites: Inventory Introduction Gimli s Community Heritage Site Inventory was carried out over the summer and fall of 2008. The project was directed by the Gimli Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee, with special assistance from Wally Johannson, Stefan Tergesen, Rick Lair and Andy Blicq. The project also relied on the advice of Mayor Tammy Axellson and CAO Joanne King. The actual work for the project was undertaken mostly by Wally Johannson, with some help from a Summer Student, Angela Sylvester. Funding for the project came from the Historic Resources Branch of Manitoba Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Tourism (with funding from the Federal Government s Historic Places Initiative). The following inventory entries are a synopsis of a more detailed inventory that is available for viewing at the municipal office. That more detailed product contains additional information on family histories. The entries presented here contain key information that allows for an easy review of this collection of sites. A map of Gimli is also included to assist in a review of sites. Please note that code numbers are only included for internal MHAC reference, and GPS readings are still being collected. This inventory is only Stage 1 of a set of inventories that the Gimli MHAC expects to undertake over a few years, with the focus here on sites in the former Town of Gimli, and especially on the cottage heritage in the northern parts of the community.
