International Conference Cultural Landscape Conservation: The Organisation of Cultural Landscapes with Special Regard to Horse Breeding 24 th - 26 th May 2017, Kladruby nad Labem, Czech Republic The cultural landscapes of Europe and the world at large are an important component of the life of mankind and constitute a distinctive part of our natural and cultural heritage. The current shape of the overwhelming majority of landscapes is the result of the more or less intensive work of man. The appearance of a landscape is most influenced by the purpose to which it is used. It is also the result of very diverse historic stages which left their specific marks on it. The landscapes which can be considered to be of high quality in terms of their cultural and historical authenticity are also instrumental in the preservation of traditional ecosystems, as they are very often places with high biodiversity. That applies most to the landscapes with traditional sustainable agricultural and forest management, but also to designed and associative landscapes. The main aim of the conference on the organisation of cultural landscapes for (not only) the purpose of horse-breeding is to present, compare and discuss the changes in the process of intentional designing of landscapes, the development of human settlement, the agricultural, manufacturing and industrial economic activity, the effects of the development of road network and the regulation of natural resources of energy, but also the possible negative alterations to the traditional cultural landscape. Conclusions and recommendations can enhance decision-making at various levels from project design and spatial planning to policy-making. The presentations address one or more of the following topics: 1) Role and characteristics of historically developed urban and rural landscapes in Europe and the world 2) Comparisons of various types of cultural landscapes in Europe and the world 3) Innovative approaches to the preservation, development and sustainable use of the values of historically developed urban and rural landscapes
