Erosion along England s shores
CITiZAN AIMS The coast of England is under constant threat from wind, waves and winter storms. These threats wreak havoc on England's varied coastal and intertidal heritage, not only exposing these sites but washing them away before they are ever seen. The project has been set up in response to these dynamic threats to our island heritage. We are a community archaeology project working in the areas of England exposed at low tide but covered at high tide. We are actively promoting site recording and long-term monitoring programmes led by our active volunteers

CITiZAN and the HERs 47 out of 84 HERs touch the coast or a tidal river NRHE = baseline data Enhanced or new records will be exported in CSV format and submitted to the HERs annually via ADS

CITiZAN: How can you help? Your involvement with CITiZAN can be as much or as little as you choose: Attend lectures and workshops on England s coastal heritage Join us for guided walks to learn more about local coastal history Carry out off-site archival research Participate in on-site recording training sessions Adopt a coastal site and carry out long-term monitoring Step 1: Register as a CITiZAN surveyor. Step 2: come to a training session. You can find out about these through our newsletter or on our events page Step 3: Once you're a full site surveyor (a short 2 step process) you can carry out long term monitoring with our app (coming soon) or using the interactive map. Be sure to stay safe!
