What we heard regarding three themes Connectivity: Improve east/west pedestrian connections Safe and well marked Local identity defined by concrete panels Tie-in as applicable with downtown wayfinding Nature: Authentic natural elements Simple walls Terracing Creek/stream themes Nature as a buffer between roadway and bike/ped Maximize landscaped areas Sturdy/native plantings Art: Blank canvas option with murals later OR Walls & periodic art panel (1) designed by artist to be repeated along the corridor or several smaller repeating designs Trellis or panels with art on east/west crossings 2
What we heard regarding green infrastructure and sustainability Working Group would like to see: Use of native plantings which require minimal or no irrigation Wildflowers and no-mow areas Planting choices that support pollinators and wildlife Bio-swales Lighter colored concrete to reduce heat island effect LED lighting which minimizes energy usage 3

Connectivity theme considerations Over-signage could create a cluttered look and adjacent wayfinding such as the city of Austin s program must be considered Location-specific items such as unique signage could be more costly to fabricate and replace over time Landscaping along corridor requires partnership with city of Austin for maintenance 10

Nature theme considerations Landscaping along corridor requires partnership with city of Austin for maintenance Constrained urban environment and space provide limited opportunities for planting and maintaining robust natural features Water usage may be a concern for city under water restrictions 16

Art theme considerations Artists/partners need to be identified to create, install, and fund pieces Timing of art installations needs to coincide with construction to avoid providing blank pallet for graffiti Art along the corridor requires partnership with city of Austin for maintenance Graffiti/defacement of art may trigger painting over with minimal opportunity for artist to repair Artworks may only be installed where they are not a distraction to drivers 22
