Design Philosophy Design exists in every aspect of our lives. As an Interior Designer, I strongly believe that design has no right answer- and that can only be an advantage. I must let my creative mind and my passionate heart decide the next step that I take in any process. I am motivated to come up with an option A, B and C, seeking to expand my knowledge and improve my design skills in the professional field. Lobby Redesign Department of Applied Design, Appalachian State University The Katherine Harper Lobby is utilized by the design students in the Department of Applied Design. Furniture My goal was to design a space that displayed the work of Interior, Industrial, Apparel & Sustainable Technology students, while simultaneously designing a comfortable space that stimulated their mind and created a sense of community. 4
Lobby Redesign Department of Applied Design, Appalachian State University My design focuses on Vitalization by serving to energize and rejuvenate students, mentally & physically, to improve productivity, strengthen the body and generate happiness. Sustainability is also a key component that was incorporated through the use of LED lighting, panels made of nontoxic minerals and recycled water, and efficient use of space.
Home Redesign for Disabled Incorporating Universal Principles of Design This house redesign was designed to accommodate a physically disabled client in her 40s who just became wheel-chair bound. The Universal Principles of Design were applied to create easier accessibility and mobility around her residential space. The proposed design plans establish a functional space that is also aesthetically pleasing, resulting in a client that is just as abled as other people. It was challenging inserting an elevator and redesigning the rooms based on the existing structural walls. However, with patience and a strategic approach, I soon found a functional solution. CLIENT REQUESTS: Private upstairs space Personal office upstairs Guest bedroom Large personal closet Entertainment/dining area for up to 8 guests Gas log fireplace with flat screen TV above Washer/dryer/ironing board in closet 2+ outdoor living areas Queen size bed Book collection display Elevator Parking area near kitchen 6

Dog Domus Design I was asked to design a dog domus that promotes and simplifies a dog s daily functions such as eating, drinking and sleeping. The challenge was to incorporate Shigeru Ban s architectural designs involving the aspect of sustainability into the structure. Ban s use of wood and cardboard tubes inspired me to design a stable structure that addressed the needs of a dog by including a system of airflow for cooling and a rain water drinking system. Dog House Inspired By Shigeru Ban 3 levels to jump from one to the other create feeling of protection and give overview of the yard. Rainwater catching system made of hollow, wooden tubes Air tubes collect cool air from the outside and push it into the closed lower level of the domus to allow for cooling Hay creating a comfortable place for sitting, observing the scene, or sleeping. Thin, solid wooden tubes make up the floor of the upper level. Water trough on both sides that catches the rainwater from the hollow tubes Dog self-feeder. Hiro can use his intelligence to push against it to cause food to come down into the attached bowl. Built-in chewable sticks that decrease the probability of Hiro scattering sticks from woods. 9
